"A massive Grand Canyon but filled with trees" is a good description of the Jamieson Valley. Beyond the range for normal tourism is the Capertee Valley, which is pretty much identical in size to the Grand Canyon but green with lots of bush and also farming properties.
A visit to scenic world would have been a bonus while you were there. A ride on the world's steepest funicular railway and a glass bottom cable car across that valley you were looking at and with a bird's-eye view of the waterfall, fun walks and all for $50
I grew up in southern Sydney and we could see the Blue Mountains on the western horizon on a clear day. They are called the Blue Mountains because the off-gassing of the eucalypts causes them to appear deep blue in that haze from a distance - cool eh? I lived close to the Royal National Park and our local scrub/forest/bush was the same. I endlessly explored that Aussie paradise. I'm so grateful.
@@AshandKels Over twice the average for 2022 in Sydney. Some other parts of the state more than that. 2021 was very wet also. Usually every decade the east coast of Australia gets a weather pattern known as La Nina....this one hung around longer than expected.
Glad you enjoyed the Blue Mountains. I live in a small town about an hour, or so, west of Katoomba. One thing I love about Australia, is that unlike many other parts of the world, you don't need to go far to before you're in a natural wonderland. Next time you visit I highly recommend a trip to the Royal National Park. It's Australia's first national park, and the world's second oldest. I'd also like to add, that near Lithgow is a place called Capertee Canyon. It's wider than the Grand Canyon, but shallower.
Katoomba is a good starting point to see the blue mountains. However, the other cities around it (i.e. Leura, Wentworth Falls, Blackheath, etc) have so much more to offer :) Good video!
I'm glad you're enjoying our beautiful country, Ozzies consider it to be the best country in the world, we have wonderful landscapes and scenery, fresh air, clean waterways and beaches, in NSW we are the most highly taxed state but we have good infrastructure, roads and public transport with the occasional hiccough. This is how I want it to stay, not overpopulated and struggling to feed and house people because of it. We are lucky to have the example of other countries so as to avoid their mistakes. I hope you'll remember your trip with fondness, did you see our amazing wildlife? Thanks for your visit, cheers !!🥰😃👍👣🍔🚂🦘🐄🐑🐏🦜🐊🐦🐳🐬🐟🌻🐝🐜🐛🦋🐌🌴🌲🍀🦗🕷🍤🦐🦞🦀🦪🥩🚅✈🌞🩴📱
need the second part too this the scenic railway, going over the cliff edge, the cable car, shame you couldn't show more of the cascades waters fall flowing down to the Katoomba falls, glad you enjoyed it, and too think you have even scratch the surface of the blue mountains
I’m so glad you have enjoyed Katoomba. My mum and dad went to Katoomba from Sydney for their honeymoon in 1950. The photos I still have are great. Oh, by the way, it took them 12 hours to get to Katoomba by car back then 😮 Their honeymoon was one week.
When Burger King was setting up shop in Australia, they couldn't use the BK name as there already was a burger chain operating under that name here. So they came up with the name of Hungry Jacks for their restaurants. A few years later, the original Burger King chain disappeared from Australia. They could've taken over the name here but the brand of Hungry Jacks was so well established that they decided to keep it. Of course, the Whopper is the signature burger as it is in the UK and probably the rest of the world too.
@D G Maccas own NSW. Not sure of the exact numbers but I'd say there is 10 Maccas to every Hungry Jack's. Having said that, there are 100s of better burger joints around compared to these two.
Not quite right. Right about the burger king already Hungry's isn't owed by burger king. It's another bloke who owns it. So he set up the franchise's, later on burger king was allowed to use their name. And actually set up some burger kings and tried to do him out of business, I think they tried stopping giving him the ingredients or something and limit his supply. Anyway old matey hungry's took them to court over it and the court ruled in hungry's favour. Burger king closed their restaurant.
There was a takeaway shop named burger King. Not a chain store. Jack cowin who owns hungry Jack's chose the name hungry Jack from pre-existing trademarks already registered by Burger King which was a pancake mixture brand.
No, that's the Jamison valley. The Megalong Valley lies west of Katoomba, the other side of Narrow Neck Plateau. Also "Megalong" has nothing to do with the size of the valley. The name is derived from an Aboriginal word meaning "valley under the rock"
You can't leave Sydney before going to The Blue Mountains 🥰 My parents live in Blackheath which is another 10 minutes from Katoomba 💖 Hungry Jacks IS like Burger King. We use to have Burger King around 20 years ago, but the chain didn't last. You've managed to capture the blue haze on the horizon which is the reason why it's called The BLUE Mountains 😍 Walking down to the The Three Sisters, did you see those little animal statues along the path as well? YES, it's a KILLER climbing back up those stairs!! 🤣🤣 Love all the bird sounds as well. So peaceful, hey 😊 Did you end up going to Blackheath as well? Gavette's Leap is popular in Blackheath.

Hi from Melbourne. Glad your'e enjoying your trip to Australia so far. Love the Blue Mountains. I have visited quite a few times and there is always something more to explore. Unfortunately they are somewhat over-looked by RUclips travellers. Love your positive vibe about what you see and do and your photography and editing are very good, much better than many other travel channels I've viewed. Hope you enjoy the rest of your time in Australia.

Glad you enjoyed Blue Mountains. Great place to go bushwalking but you have to be prepared. I went with a couple of mates back in the day and got lost and finally got back to our cars around 9pm. It was so cold and we didn’t think we were going to make it out at one stage. 😅
Glad you liked it. I'm a sydney local and i love nothing more than getting out to wentworth falls and slacks steps (about two suburbs next to katoomba). That is both psychotic and the most beautiful scenes you'll likely every experience. The grand canyon at blackheath is also famous for possibly being the most scenic easy going loop track. about 2-3 kilometers total.
One thing that you missed out on by turning around on the Great Stairway is the scenic railway. At the bottom of the great stairway is a walk, that follows the escarpment, which culminates at the Scenic Railway. Effectively a cable car that is dragged up the side of the escarpment. Your look out of the roof of the car at the scenery. All things considered you made a great travel vlog. 🙂🤙
Yo no way this just popped up. I’m a track worker who builds the stones steps on bushwalks in Katoomba, you might have seen some closed off sections of the tracks, they actually opened yesterday. Great video and thanks for talking about this underrated place I grew up!
Blue mountains is beautiful just be mindful of the temperature change, it can be 30deg in Sydney and 10deg at the blue mountains so don't forget to check the temperature!!
You should of taken the walk to the left when you got to the bottom in Sydney the valley. It takes you through the rain forest and come to structure that was built back in the early settlers days. Then past that to a bigger water fall and then you can get up from there and walk back to where you started at the top. There's so many good spots in the mountains as I lookout and tracks.
If it hasn't been mentioned yet, the Blue mountains are so named for the blue haze, believed to be caused by short wavelength scattering due to chemicals given off by the eucalyptus trees. It is possible to go down to nearby Wentworth Falls. I have a couple of photos lying around somewhere that I took from the other side of the falling water, out into the valley.

The Blue Mountains is a lovely place to visit and very accessible but there are some great places a bit further out like Jenolan Caves and Kanangra Walls but you need a vehicle to get there. Cheers, Peter
I have been there many times being from Sydney and going there to work to repair fridges and that view still has that effect, amazing , looks like it is from the dinosaur period.
It's a different place to when I was there in the seventies but it's definitely a must see. So is the Daintree and Baron Falls up near Cairns in Queensland.
I grew up in the Blue Mountains and my high school was just a block or two away from Echo Point. Much as I love the Aussie bush I agree that Bryce and the Arches should be on anyone’s “to see” lists and are arguably more impressive. Moab and Dead Horse Point too - so many amazing sights in the US west. The arid landscape makes the views more spectacular whereas the Blue Mountains have a soft sort of grandeur.
Good afternoon from Hazelbrook blue mountains, hope you had a wonderful exsperience, it's amazing what you learn from tourists because we locals don't explore our own country enough ..thank you ❤️❤️
Oh, next bakery visit - tomato sauce on your sausage rolls and meat pies (meat pies from a bakery are a must.) The scenic railway, cable car and skyway are great as well. Take the railway down (largest drop of a train, but not that scary), cable car back up, then skyway across (not for those with a fear of heights as the floor has glass panels.)
I (Kelsey) love tomato sauce so I’ll definitely be trying that next time! We’re still yet to have a meat pie from the bakery, so we’ll definitely be trying one! Yes we did see this online, we didn’t get a chance to do it this time but we may head back and do it another time ☺️ thanks for watching!
YA SHOULDA TAKEN THE TRAIN THINGY....its a great ride and takes you down to the bottom or very near... [ its been awhile for me so i hope its still happening...
Glad you enjoyed your trip to the mountains.. next time you should go for a walk with the local indigenous people. Book a trip through dingo travel and a bloke called Menash. An experience of a lifetime.
You missed the 10-minute walk to the base of the first drop of Katoomba Falls, but at least you got to see them from the lookouts. Then again, you missed so much! Multiply your experience by about 1,000 times and you get an idea of the size of the accessible Blue Mountains. Glad you had a good day, but the BM deserve a longer stay, visiting such places as the Valley of the Waters, Wentworth Falls, .... the list goes on.
That Hungry Joe's looked so much like a Burger King restaurant. That's what I thought first I saw it. Perhaps Burger King used to be of that quality back in the old days. Thanks for showing the incredible nature around Sydney. I never heard of this place.
Burger King could not have restaurants with that name because Australia already had a Burger King, so they changed to Hungry Jack's. However, Australia has very strict food standards and great local produce, so the food is very fresh and high quality.
Looks like a really cool National Park. Our latest itinerary for our upcoming World Tour has us wrapping up our around the World trip in Australia and I love to look forward to it. Thank you for sharing and happy travels to you. -Turtle
I did my first RTW trip, solo, in 1987. I was away from the UK for 20 months, which included a year on a working holiday visa in Australia. I met this cute Kiwi bloke. He later followed me over to the UK once my travel onwards was done. A couple of years later we set off on a big backpacking ROWer as our honeymoon We ended up, after 3 circuits of the globe, back in Australia. 35 years on.. we are now into LSL trips spending in-depth time of 4 to 6 weeks traversing one country. We've just got back in fact, from Malaysian Borneo. (Long Service Leave is hands down the BEST Australian invention ever!!!!) Travel is my "Id" and hearing other people's excitement about theirs makes me so happy.
Australian Sausage Rolls are generally always beef based, not pork like the UK. You can occasionally find a pork one but much harder to come by. The same goes for sausages for the BBQ. Our primary meat is beef and is much cheaper than the UK so you'll find a lot of beef variants of things you know (Pies, pasties, dumplings etc.)
My gf got a bacon and cheese pie from the bakery (at the time in thought it was weird as she doesn't like beef) And was eating and said to me this tastes weird. I said to her it has beef in it off course you don't like it. She was but it didn't say that on the menu, it just said bacon and cheese. Yeah bacon and cheese beef pie.
What! No tomato sauce on your sausage roll? Sacrilege!! :-) Well done on capturing the essence of the Blue Mountains - it's magic. Even better if you are a rock climber - climbs galore all over the place.
Love Katoomba! Great vids of that gorgeous area guys and your editing is top notch as well, really enjoyed it (as always) ... Bakery vs Hungry Jacks challenge 🤣🤣🤣🤣 All the best from us !
Lucky to have such a great view. When I was there I was astonished about the birds sitting in the trees like bunch of sparrows but so colourfull. Dont complain about the heat would like to change with you with the sun here as well but still -8, yes minus 8. Oh yes, and I remember the gondola ride down or was it it such kind of a train. Anyway, just spent a day with a friend from Sydney took me there. Enjoy your stay in Oz. For how long time did you planned ?
We were surprised by the different types of birds we saw too! Yeah we're happy about the heat after hearing that! We're currently on Working Holiday Visas so we're able to be here for a year! We plan on working and travelling so we can make videos on our travels but save some money as well!

Sad part about it is that most people just go to Katoomba thinking that’s it but the Blue Mountains go beyond that as there are so many lookouts and walks all the way long the mountain range.
Blue Mountain is super super touristy!! Cos of covid we are not getting many asian (chinese) tourists. Usually bus loadsssss clogging up that area. Its chockablock
A reminder if you catch a train to the blue mountains, train carriage numbers that start with the number 8 are quiet cars where you are supposed to be quiet.
Wow, you were lucky you didn't get sprung for eating on the train! Katoomba is about 90 minutes from where I live and I have very fond memories of holidays there as a kid. It is indeed a beautiful place.
According to the *transportnsw travel-courtesy-etiquette* link on the page food and non alcoholic drinks are allowed. I'd put the link up but RUclips gets its knickers in a knot about external links.
Looks good, i had a chance to work AU a few years ago but I finished uni and preferred to save costs, hoping to go on a skilled visa before i hit 45! Its worth possibly teaching English, I'll be heading to China and Asia early next year, quite a good way to earn some money and see places
Hey @ash and Kel.. Would you recommend finding for a place to stay overnight in the blue mountain ares or a day trip in and out of it from Sydney is manageable?
There’s definitely more hikes and waterfalls in the area that can be done, most people go for a couple of nights so we’d suggest getting somewhere to stay there 😁 if you’re just going for a day to check it out it’s manageable from Sydney! 2 hours west on the train 🚂

It's a good thing you went to Katoomba this time of the year. If you went in winter it would be bitterly cold.
Just found your channel! Subscribed along for the journey now. Great video guys x
Thanks! We really appreciate it! 🥰
Also, it was in that National Park, north of where you were, they discovered wolombi (?) pines growing, a plant scientists had thought extinct.
I hope you got healthier food in Katoomba, wonderful place, good foods, great air! 🤗
We really enjoyed our time in Katoomba! So glad we went!
Good afternoon from Hazelbrook blue mountains, hope you had a wonderful exsperience, it's amazing what you learn from tourists because we locals don't explore our own country enough ..thank you ❤️❤️
I live in the Blue Mountains and loved the comment “The Grand Canyon with tress!”
The three sisters IS touristy - you need walk something like the Grand Canyon at Blackheath to truely experience the grain of the country.
The grand canyon is in Nevada but ok
@@nolesy34 that is NOT the only Grand Canyon.
Less people because it’s a distance from the train station. You’d need a taxi , guide or hoo on hoo off bus/ tram thing
It did, the food was very similar too but a lot better quality compared to the UK! Thank you for watching Jeroen, we had such a good day exploring 😀
Looks like a really cool National Park. Our latest itinerary for our upcoming World Tour has us wrapping up our around the World trip in Australia and I love to look forward to it. Thank you for sharing and happy travels to you. -Turtle
It was incredible! That sounds amazing, where are you most excited to visit? Happy travels to you too 😀
I did my first RTW trip, solo, in 1987. (Long Service Leave is hands down the BEST Australian invention ever!!!!)
Travel is my "Id" and hearing other people's excitement about theirs makes me so happy.
We enjoy beef so are looking forward to trying some more of the tasty food in the bakeries 😍
tomato sauce on a sausage roll is really a "must" (in my opinion)
My gf got a bacon and cheese pie from the bakery (at the time in thought it was weird as she doesn't like beef)
And was eating and said to me this tastes weird.
I said to her it has beef in it off course you don't like it.
She was but it didn't say that on the menu, it just said bacon and cheese.
Yeah bacon and cheese beef pie.
Hi Guys, loving your Vlogs loving the Blue Mountains one of my Favorite places in NSW. Looking forward to seeing more. Kiwi viewing from Auckland NZ.
The Blue Mountains is part of the Great Dividing Range which runs pretty much from Queensland through NSW to Victoria...
Wow really? We didn’t know!
That’s a traditional Aussie sausage roll 😊 you also need to try a beef pie 👍🏻
Thanks! Will add it to the list! We're going to do an Aussie food video soon we think!
it's not a complete experience without tomato sauce.....
@@AshandKels yes sausage rolls, pies and pasties are best accompanied with tomato sauce. Always! Good job though.
Loving your adventures in Oz
Thank you so much!
I like these guys, they have'nt whinged about anything.
What! No tomato sauce on your sausage roll? Sacrilege!! :-) Well done on capturing the essence of the Blue Mountains - it's magic. Even better if you are a rock climber - climbs galore all over the place.
Just discovered your channel and really enjoyed your Sydney and Blue Mountains videos. Looking forward to more of your trip to Oz.
Thank you! We’re excited to be in Australia, we’ll be here for a long time I think. So much to see and do!
Love Katoomba! Great vids of that gorgeous area guys and your editing is top notch as well, really enjoyed it (as always) ... Bakery vs Hungry Jacks challenge 🤣🤣🤣🤣 All the best from us !
We absolutely loved it too! We wish we’d stayed longer! Thank you so much guys, we really appreciate it 🥰
Lucky to have such a great view.
@@AshandKels Mostly people go for harvesting jobs. Make sure you will find one times ahead of the start of the season. After 2 years of struggeling getting the pacific islanders work force into the country due to covid, I assume you have to be quick to get an comfy job in this industry. I am sure you will make it. I would like to support those digging for gems(opals) or gold. Well you know some areas allow searching without having a claim or a permit so why not try to go for a furtune.
Those birds are called cockatoos, parrots and lorikeets.
You nailed it on the head mate - Hungry Jacks is just burger king - 10 years ago we used to have both burger king and hungry jacks with the same menu now days only hungry jacks is available in aus. Great vid aby the way ! I really enjoyed it
next time you are in the blue mountains again, try please what I think is the best cheese and beef pies in town ~ from Blackheath bakery patisserie, 6 govetts leap rd, Blackheath. You will not be disappointed😊
Never herd of those landmarks. All around amazing views. If you look closely the1ST 1 looks taller then the other 2. ONLY 982 steps XX 2. I hear the water. Yummy steak roll. We’re are all the people?? Excellent all around
Thanks Drew! Yes I think the first one was taller, was such incredible scenery! We were lucky that it was quite quiet, it’s a really popular spot too so we were surprised! Thanks for watching ☺️
Love seeing you enjoy our country
Thank you 😄
Hi 👋 Come to the Gold Coast! you’ll love it
Should have headed on to Scenic World instead of climbing back up. There is a train😆
should also include Manly and the Northern Beaches
Oh wow you guys got there on a really nice sunny day
Katoomba badly needs a sprucing up
You should have gone on the Katoomba scenic railway and cable car.
We missed out!
It’s good that you did all that walking and stair climbs because you ate a lot of rubbish! Just needed a lamington and chocolate milk to go with the sausage roll and cheese & bacon roll
You should go down all the way walk and comeback up by train line
You know if you actually had a car and you drove about hour from where you are would of came to the second largest canon in the world it’s wider that the Grand Canon in US but not as deep at Capertee in the Lithgow area and next it is the Wolgan Valley it’s just phenomenal 😊
Wow really? Wish we knew this sooner! Maybe we’ll head back up there! Thanks for the recommendation 😀
@@AshandKels do you have a Facebook as I can send you some photos etc 😊
Sad part about it is that most people just go to Katoomba thinking that’s it but the Blue Mountains go beyond that as there are so many lookouts and walks all the way long the mountain range.
Blue Mountain is super super touristy!! Cos of covid we are not getting many asian (chinese) tourists. Usually bus loadsssss clogging up that area. Its chockablock
Ah really?! We’re glad it was quite quiet when we were here!
If u think the that’s big go further west to capertee and it is the widest canyon in the world
A reminder if you catch a train to the blue mountains, train carriage numbers that start with the number 8 are quiet cars where you are supposed to be quiet.
Hello guys!!!no plan to visit again PHILIPPINES?
We'll be visiting Philippines at some point in 2023! We're currently working in Australia to save some more money to travel again!
Rob Reacts channel had a similar reaction to the Blue Mountains in their recent trip to Australia. Now I’m aching to visit Katoomba again.
It’s such an amazing place, we loved it so much! Wish we stayed for longer ☺️
Formed the same way as the Grand Canyon.
how did you like the blue mountains
Loved it 😍
Wow, you were lucky you didn't get sprung for eating on the train!
@@sheerluckholmes5468 ok. That's something I didn't know. Godd info!
You did not go over to Scenic World?
Looks good, i had a chance to work AU a few years ago but I finished uni and preferred to save costs, hoping to go on a skilled visa before i hit 45! Its worth possibly teaching English, I'll be heading to China and Asia early next year, quite a good way to earn some money and see places
That sounds great, we hope to visit China one day! Hope you have a great time 😀
Hey @ash and Kel..
@@AshandKels Wow two hours per way? Yeah that's a lot of time travelling. Thanks for the reco! I just noticed that were lots of walking tracks around it.
If you are in the USA the Giant stairway takes you direct to the Giant Arse.
You have officially done everything there is to do in Sydney
I love watching foreigners discover our beautiful Aussie bushland 😊 Hope you guys are loading up on water & sunscreen. We have the highest rate of skin cancer in the world. The Aussie summer sun is a lot hotter than many ppl think!
Hi, yes I'm currently back in Sydney visiting family on a three week trip from England. We are heading to Katoomba this week. 🇦🇺😎🌴👍
