As an Arsenal fan, Arteta brought me back to watching the games. I had become so disheartened by Arsenal's performances and failures, I started watching fewer and fewer Arsenal matches during Wenger's final year. I would just check the scores. I watched maybe 2-3 during Unai Emery and eventually stopped checking the scores as well because there was no point. I knew Arsenal would end up disappointing me. But the latter part of last season brought me back and even though we bottled top 4, I could feel that things were different and Arsenal were a better team than I remembered them. Ohhhhhh buddy, have I been waiting for this! Not just the video, of course, but Arsenal turning a very long and very difficult corner. I think Mikel Arteta has the goods to take this squad anywhere he wants to go. Pep's positional football + Michels' and Cruyff's Total Voetball in terms of formation and player interchange + Wenger's pursuit of the sublime and beautiful. He's got a squad full of youngsters *because* he wants his players malleable in terms of habits and outlook, and he's shaping them artfully. When was the last time Arsenal played with STEEL and CONTROL instead of rashness and fragility? Credit to the board, they've been willing to invest lately, and I think the crucial moment for the project was after the FA Cup victory; they appointed Arteta manager in addition to first-team coach. Emery only held the latter title, and has aired his grievances in the press about not getting the players he wanted. But talent ID has been exceptionally good under Arteta and Edu, and has fast-tracked the rebirth of Arsenal Football Club as a challenger for top hardware. Pundits and fans scoffed at £50m for Benjamin White in 2021! Twice-relegated Aaron Ramsdale was received with heavy scepticism! Folks thought Real Madrid washout Ødegaard was a bargain pick when James Maddison got slapped with a hefty price tag by Leicester, and all he did was come second to KDB in chances created in the second half of last season. And now he's the captain!
Arteta is a tough boss, but apparently a charismatic one: he has these lads playing with belief. Belief in themselves, in the system, in the badge, and in - you said it - the process of becoming great. I could weep. They embody so many values I admire. Thanks for the breakdown, T!

I was sure it would just be a matter of time before it all came to fruition.
I'm not getting carried away just yet, though, because football and fate are fickle mistresses; a couple of key injuries or unexpected defeats could still knock this team off its course for a little while. You blow up an older and insufficient team, favoring to recruit younger (unproven in some cases) talent that you hope have more potential upside in the long term. As great as this video is, not to mention the impact Edu has had alongside Arteta is criminal. Edu has done the due diligence on every player that’s come into the club, and other than Willian (which seemed like a certainty at the time) it has been his hard work that’s changed the clubs future ❤ COYG!!

I have been supporter of Arsenal since 2017. I literally don't know how this affection started. For me, it was like LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT.. It was the time when Arsenal was not doing good, Team was also ageing, OZIL was there, LACAZATTE used to be our key striker .Then we brought Aubemeyang in our team in hope that.. time will change.. but sadly it did not happened. Season after season, the performance of the team was going down. From 2nd spot in 2016 to 8th spot in 2019🥺 It was so painful to see my team struggling against 3rd class clubs in Premier League... But there was always some kind of positive vibes in my heart. I always knew it will only take one good season to convert all those suffering into a dream PL run. Then begins 2022 season. Like other season every PL fans thought Arsenal will suffer again bcoz there were no established players this time. Youngest team till now, then wonder happens, we won 5 games in a row at the start of the season in August 2022... This young team gave us hope.. And now this team is giving us (Arsenal fans) the happiness and sense of satisfaction, we were seeking since many years. Without a doubt this year (2022) is the best year of my life......Thank you Gunners for making 2022 much more beautiful ❤️
    ❤️❤️Ending 2022 at top of the table❤️❤️
Trophy 🏆 is not too far...

Impossible to say for sure unless you know Josh Kroenke, but I think the experience of Emery as manager taught the Arsenal owners that they had to back Arteta unequivocally and to encourage Arteta to change the culture of the club as quickly as possible. Emery was clearly a gifted coach and Villa have done well to recruit him.
I remember all the discussions a few years ago about which former top player would be the best manager - Gerrard, Lampard or Rooney? And Arteta wasn't even mentioned.

    • @benhicks9481

people actually thought OGS and Lampard were going to be better than Arteta which was laughable. OGS scraped together wins of the back of moments rather than many, if any, decent team performances and clear tactics or progression. While Lampard had a stacked squad but didn't know how to use it. Arteta has proven many different aspects of how to manage not just a team but a club.

Arteta's tenure remind me of Klopp's early days at liverpool: Hemorrhaging goals and losses left and right. But someday, the gears clicked. The only thing that could halt them from reaching their full potential in this era is also the same: Pep's Manchester CIty.

Good thinks take time. We often forget about this in our fast paced world. We want success and much more immediately. But we still live under the rules of nature where things have to grow. Not diferent in football. You want a successfull team? Then let a good manager grow it together in the first place instead of firing him right away after not winning 5 times in a row. Patience pays off, Arteta and the guys at Arsenal who gave him their trust prooved that once again.
This young team is a joy to watch and its great to see Odegaard living up to the expectations which were a heavy burden on him since he was still a kid.

I think this summer and Arteta and Edu's transfer tactics put a bit of confidence in the fans, because last season, after the bad start we were becoming a very good team, particularly with Saka, Smith-Rowe and Odegaard. The transfer choices were absolutely perfect additions that we couldn't have got without Arteta.
Now we look like a fantastic team that could just do with a bit of extra quality support in a couple of areas.
I am over the moon that Arteta has kept Nketiah and Xhaka and shown them loyalty, he is a fantastic man manager, and these examples make me confident that his releasing Guenduzzi was spot on, even though i think Guenduzzi was a fantastic prospective talent, his ego seems to have overtaken him at arsenal, but good luck to him and Torriera.

An interesting analysis of Arsenal's current place at the summit of the Premier League. However, its not without its scepticism, and the commentator was honest about that.
Arsenal is where it is in the league because of the hard work and shrewd management of Arteta, it couldn't have been sooner because of the personality Arteta had to contend with. What we see before us is the manifestation of the aforementioned 'process'. There has to be strengthening in January, and with that, I see no reason why Arsenal cannot win the league.
Let's us not forget Leicester City, a team that defied the scepticism of the doubters, and yet, the team achieved the impossible. We have before us a team, that in my opinion is better, and has a manager that is better than at the time the Leicester manager. Arsenal can go on to achieve great things this season and beyond. O

Heard some rival fans talking about how Auba's mistake was minor, and that Arteta should not banish Auba from the first team (subsequently kicked out of the club). I am glad Arteta believed in what he believes, established discipline in the team and made sure that no one in the locker room thinks that he is bigger than the manager or the club. Ferguson at United has never allow any of his players to think they are bigger than the club. Best examples were Beckham and Keane. I am no way comparing Arteta to the greatest manager ever, but we are convinced that Arteta is fostering the right mentality at the team.
