I noticed a few things in this video that were not correctly executed.
    1. Full Personal Protective Equipment (P.P.E.) must be worn in reprocessing area to protect the technician from harm and contracting disease. P.P.E. includes utility Gloves (for cleaning, disinfection), nitrile/latex gloves, face mask, eye protection/face shield, hair net, protective outer layer (waterproof/fluid-resistant gown) etc.
    2. handpieces must be sterilised after each use and not just wiped, even if it wasn't used on the patient.
    3. The handpiece, air/water syringe hoses and their holders etc must be wiped completely and cleaning/disinfecting agent contact time must be followed. Refer to the manufacturer's instructions for use.
    4. when cleaning and rinsing the instruments hold them low in the sink to prevent aerosols from being dispersed. Make sure hinged instruments are manually/ultrasonically cleaned with their hinges open so debris and microorganisms etc can be removed and the cleaning agent can contact all surfaces. Even better, for manual cleaning, fill the sink with appropriate detergent and water and manually clean the instruments by holding them under the waterline, then rinse under warm to hot running water. Make sure a soft instrument brush that is suitable for use on the instrument being cleaned is utilised. Note:
Thorough cleaning is required and must be carried out before disinfection and sterilisation. This is because any inorganic and organic materials that are left on the surfaces of instruments may interfere with the effectiveness of disinfection and sterilisation processes.
    5. Pouches were not folded on the perforated line and no batch identification information was written on the pouches or a printed label given. Important for tracking and tracing. Ensure pouches are folded on that line to prevent gaps in the seal on the corners of the pouches as seen in your video. These gaps in the pouches mean that the device cannot be used on the patient and must be fully reprocessed as microorganisms and moisture will be able to enter the pouch. Also, do not overload pouches as that can cause damage to the devices and limit sterilisation agent (steam) from being able to contact each and every surface on the instrument. Pouches may also come out wet if overloaded. Also, very important to dry and inspect each and every item before placing it into a pouch to prevent corrosion, rust, microorganisms from forming. Make sure to test instruments function (if needed).
    6. sterile instruments must be stored in such a way that it prevents recontamination of the item due to environmental factors such as dust etc. My advice would be to keep them covered with a dust cover or in a draw/cupboard to prevent damage/contamination.

      That was pretty elaborate..
Your comment is more informative than the video itself

Your right I’m a central sterile technician and he wasn’t even doing it right, the first thing I noticed was him brushing it with clean water running over it. Normally we let our instruments soak in soapy water first then scrub them under the water, using really hot water. When we are done scrubbing we put them into a different sink that has cold clean water in it. Then we put it into a cart that goes into a washer.

Just cavicide? No high level disinfectant, pre-klens spray or endozyme solution? Interesting. I was also taught not to pack multiple items in the pouches because there’s no guarantee that each instrument will be sterilized effectively.

I just saw a video on Tiktok about an office that would just rinse the instruments and use them again. They had no autoclave and I freaked out, had to come see the correct process of sterilization. I loved the part where a brush is used under running water 😅
Next appointment I have I am definitely going to be asking to see the autoclave.

The sterile tech doesn't need to wear full PPE? They are certain gloves for sterilization. Also when wiping down the room you should lift up the hoses and wipe around and inside the holder. If the handpiece is used it need to be sterilized, not wiped.

Does sterilization heat affect the heat treatment (tempering) of sharp objects such as blades?
