Holy crap I'm sweating, I love how Tchaikovsky REALLY gets to the climax and makes everybody excited with it. He's exactly the sound of Russia and does triumphant music like none other romantic composer can do!
I agree. The 4th and 5th are like he is struggling with something and overcoming it. The 6th, however....it's like he struggles a little bit and then gives up and the music just fades away.
..jeeepers! i think i'm sweating with mr gergiev.. Tchaikovsky really knows what he's doing.. it always gets me, the ferocity of the end of the 1st movement followed by that gorgeous beautiful oboe starting the second (played oboe in school it's very difficult lol).. thankyou 🙂

Chaikovsky orchestraition goes beyond the most unimaginable inspiration. This 4th is for me the best of his six symphonies. And I have listened many good versions. This one is outstanding but listen also HR FRANKFURT symphony with Prieto, or Karajan with Berliner Philarmoniker, or Bernstein with Viena Philarmonic. Excellent too. Thanks for this fabulous pleasure for our souls.
The most beautifull gesture I ever seen considering a conductor in the name of Valery Gergiev interpreting one of the best symphony ever written, my favourite symphony, the 4th symphony of Tchaikovsky indeed and thank you for having posted that document
I so love when a conductor goes from the third to the fourth movement attacca. Gergiev kind of does it, but when there's just a breath between them it's incredibly exciting
And Michael Tilson Thomas, his performance of this symphony was amazing, I was there... complete symphony with his commentary is on You Tube, to me both are tops
@@romanreshetkin The best Nr.4 is from SF Symphony and MMT, I heard it live and it was incredible, look for Keeping Score, there is a full symphony even though Gergiev is good too.
In the 4th movement that was the most kick ass return to the 1st movement motif downbeat I've heard in any recording. At 39:19. I liked being knocked out of my seat.
Two guys on flutes? It has to be the old VPO! As for the work... not even Gergiev on RUclips can compare to seeing this symphony in real life with the horns blaring out the fate motif, although this is certainly a good performance. What is often missed is the tympanist performing almost like a drummer throughout the first movement.
I don’t know why the symphony number 6 is often considered Tchaikovsky’s crowning achievement while the 4th is far more powerful and richer in range of emotions...
3:10 Anyone know who that bass player is...the one that looks like a cello player? Seen him in other Christian Thielemann videos, would love to learn if he's just comfortable playing that way...or thinks the bass should be held similar to a cello? What are your thoughts?
Origins of music unevidenced. Except it is gift to humanity from God the Creator. Music continues in heaven. Discontinues in hell. Be saved from eternal hell. Enter heaven. Enjoy heavenly music. For free.
You like Bernstein better, then choose his playing! Saying something like this to a great conductor, without a single reason, is nothing more than hate speech ...
One of the best gauged performances up to the very end. Tremendous impact!

perfection in each note they play!

ものすごい大熱演だ。
ウィーンフィルがここまで本気を出すとは。
これを見れた人は幸せだな。
凄演と言うにふさわしい。
And who said classical music was dull?? Either they have not heard this fireworks display or else they were talking out of their arse-end!!

OMG - just listened to MMT SF Orch version of the 4th movement - blew me into the next room! - loved the interpretation
Is anyone else listening while doing hwork and also plays an instrument? Btw I play cello😋
For me the best Versions, Gergiev Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra and Barenboim Chicago Symphony
Such incredible finely nuanced finesse,,,,,,,,
A noteworthy performance and flawless recording spoiled by a high-pitched tone present throughout the entire video.
Bravo,bravo, bravo!.. Thanks a lot.
Obrigado amigos e amigas musicistas!

Exactly .....and what's suprising -not worse than singing.

Because they are not Russian.

Anyone ever thought making a transcription for two pianos ? As Liszt did for Beethoven symphonia eroica.
Good idea.
P.S. Liszt made for 1 piano :)

Grande Gergiev!
Which orchestra is? No women at all, curious thing. Wait, I saw a viola.
I think it's the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra:)
Because if there were women they would play better yes ofc.
Wtf who cares...what matters is the quality of the musicians. If they are all women, great! If they are all men, that's great, too!
