Practice makes perfect, but, as every drummer knows all too well, honing your percussive chops isn’t always the quietest affair! What’s more, practice pads can be a tricky proposition: playing on one is vastly different from the real thing. Poorly designed pads fail to consider that merely reducing the volume could cost you plenty of valuable experience in refining stick and motion control, as well as in other areas. Thankfully, Sweetwater’s drum expert in residence, Nick D’Virgilio, has a fantastic solution with Meinl’s innovative Marshmallow practice pads. Want to learn more? Take a listen!

Just got this after trying it out in the local store and was sold instantly. Usually put mousepads on my regular practice pad to soften sound and rebound but this one is just that but more. As someone that recently had some hand problems this also feels really soft on the hands so that I can practice without feeling like my hands are taking the impact.
I'll definitely be hooking those up to some clip triggers as well. It's a pretty nifty way to create a make shift drum kit for recording ideas in the middle of the night without waking the baby. Great video, as always!
i dont think that would work since there isnt a rim for the triggers to clip onto
@Alexander Davlin I know it sounds out there, but I am sure it works because I have tried something similar with attaching the clips to only the stands, and it worked just fine! It can be kind of tricky to find various settings for different results, but for just laying ideas down, it works pretty well for me! I believe I am using the Korg clip triggers, and they are really sensitive, and with multi-sample triggering, it isn't too bad! The clips work even better on drums with the silent stroke heads, if I am being honest, but I have been looking for a pad like this to simulate more of a ride cymbal feel. Anyways, I'm just saying I think most drummers would be surprised with what is possible with an approach like this now, especially when combined with good sample libraries and settings... as a long-time drummer, I know I was pleasantly surprised! I would like to think pads like this could only make my experiments that much better... Maybe this is a good topic to make a video on? Anyway- Happy exploring! ✌️
I absolutely love Nick! He reminds me of my youth pastor from back in the day.

This is my favorite pad--quiet enough for an apartment and has rebound comparable to a snare drum.
After watching Sound percussion practice pad review on RUclips, I had to buy one. 😂😂😂 Funniest review Ive ever seen.
I just ordered one of these. Just came back in stock at Sweetwater. I hope it doesn’t start coming apart like the Zildjian Reflexx pad did.
just what i was looking for, booked and ordered
Best Pad so far - problem: the foam gets cracks pretty fast. You can play on it further on, but the cracks are very annoying.
I didn't know Vincent Schiavelli played drums or is that Jon Lovitz?
Yea...THAT'S THE TICKET!
Cool, can easily be handled.
Invent something for kick-pads amigos. I got 3 towels layered in my apartment & all I can do with my feet is look like a guy on the train who had too much coffee & throw loving gazes at my unused Axis doubles. I bought $400 of mass loaded vinyl & it's a no go for transferred impact noise.

Hello, which stands do you use? The Meinl Marshmallow Pads documentation recommends cymbal stands, but yours looks like snare drum stands, is it for stability?
Thanks so much for your interest. I prefer snare stands as they are more stable and you can angle it more like a snare.
I hope this helps.

Amazing vid
How’s the rebound? Is it too much or close to real snare? Thanks
Hey, cgonzt5636. The rebound on these is pretty soft. You definitely need to work a bit to get even strokes, but that’s what you want in a practice pad.
I hope this helps.

is this as quiet as the Drumeo Quiet Pad... or maybe even quieter than that? I live in an apartment with fairly thin walls, and no matter what I use I feel like I'm going to disturb the whole building😭
Hey, Chiyo18. Thanks for your interest. This one is about the same as the drumeo pad in terms of volume.
I hope this helps.

@@sweetwater thanks for the reply! I just received my marshmallow yesterday and I love it so far😁
I've been playing on this pad for a week with standard 5a vic firth drumsticks, and cracks appeared on the top foam! It's just a garbage
Why don't one of us ever invent something??!!That one hurts!
Can I eat the marshmallow ? 😋🤤
I’ll just use my thighs lol
