As much as I love muscle cars, even I know an awd already has a pretty strong advantage off the line, let alone when it has noticably more horsepower. Frankly there was just no way the Chevelle could have won that race even without skipping a gear.

Late ass response but the skylines were actually not fully awd. The back wheels had full throttle until it hit wheel spin and then the fronts kicked in to support the launch. Its kinda cool.

@Leo the Lion first of all, I never said the Chevelle was trash. I myself have a 67 Camaro with a gas guzzling V8. Also a car that is lighter, has more power and is awd will almost always beat an underpowered rwd car. Small inline 4's can make well over 400 hp and 350 lbs of torque with the right tuning and mods. So an engines size doesn't have to relate to its output, it can but doesn't have to.

I am a muscle car guy but man are these imports super fast and super fun. Muscle cars are the past of sports vehicles but are still the coolest in my opinion. They just have the weight literally and figuratively of importance and stance.

When they built the first skyscrapers they had to develop a new method of building, the load-bearing steel skeleton. *Nobody* counts numbers of floors as some sort of measure. But you're saying "A 80 floor building is more amazing than a 30 floor building." From an architect point of view they're the same in design. But you couldn't build higher than 17 floor buildings back in the time they used masonry (load-bearing thick walls) to carry the entire weight. Somebody had to be creative to solve that.
Or even simpler. You compare a huge plate of fries and sausages to a dish made at a five star restaurant and completely miss the point by either saying "this is more food" or "this has more calories and is cheaper".
Oh yeah, and the vast oil reserves the USA used to have in the past meant that they could sell their petrol dirt cheap. Hence the market for large displacement cars. In other places petrol was a lot more expensive since it had to be imported from far away, not to mention that it was (rightfully) heavily taxed. Shipping isn't cheap. Hence there was no market. Ergo it wasn't any sort of "technological limitation" which prevented this from happening.

@@ramp7857 In the late 1980s all the Japanese auto manufacturers made a gentleman's agreement not the list any horsepower over 270hp for insurance reasons. The skyline R32 was making well north of 300 closer to 350 ( And some special editions like the R 400 were making 400). Depending on what year that chevelle is its horsepower won't be too much more. It is just really hard to overcome that awd on the launch.
Its a sad day for the old men rooting for the chevelle. Fucking skyline plants it every time with that all wheel drive launch control, muscle gave too much wheelspin.

lmao @ critics "GTR" is not a sleeper its the most tunable car in the world....the chevelle with that power could easily run 11s if not tens on a better gear setup 3.55, or 4.11, or a radial setup....or even an automatic trans....here not the case. Its obvious the inferior gap between the gtr and the chevelle
no 10s with 500HP and that weight. I own a Hellcat and with the same with and better trans. barely touch the 10s with DR
buick stage 1s, and 429s ran 10s out the lot only ones to do so....and that was in the 60s....and if u think the buick 455 wasnt heavy.....or couldnt do it.....well yeah hell cat has the same engine as a ls6 chevelle? doubtful....LS6 chevelle when dialed in right(drag radials) can run 11s all day....bone stock hell no more like 13-14s. But in this day and age who is running that ls6 chevelle on a weak setup id be running the top 1-3 builds on teh forums.......
