Well done from an NZ fan. I’m off on a 420km brevet with 5,500m this 3 day weekend and doubt I’ll be dragging myself out of my tent days 2 and 3 with such a cheery “morning!” (Unless I sleep in too). Inspirational, thanks.
The mist makes it more magical. I was surprised how slow I travelled when bikepacking. What a joy to watch. I think anyone who has bikepacker before gets everything said about the emotional rollercoaster. And then wanting to get straight back out. It's addictive
What a champion you are, doing it by yourself, getting 'lost', getting cold and doing a course that most would chance only on a mtb. Thank you for putting yourself through that and sharing your ups and downs. Love it!
This was your best video yet. Not because I enjoy watching other people suffering but because you are demonstrating the range of highs and lows that most likely everyone who has done a long distance event goes through. So thanks for not hiding the lows!
Wow, what an adventure! Congrats on finishing. That feeling of "never again" followed by "can't wait until next time" seems to be a common thread among cyclists, maybe other athletes as well. Some of that trail looked absolutely brutal!! Good Job Juliet!
This is a feeling I have while rock climbing outside. When I'm stuck on the wall feeling bad and scared it's horrible. When I finish the climb and that I'm back on earth I cannot wait for another round!
Well done. Good call on checking into that B & B! It is not a sign of failure changing your plans during your journeys. Even with the best preparation, plans can change. I do that too. Dave will be so proud of you. But keep safe for your daughter and husband above all.
I often bivvy within 2 miles of home. It's good to know your routine and kit. I especially go out in bad weather as I figure it'll pay off. Which it duly did when I had problems on the Tour de Combins route and had 2 nights out unplanned at over 2000m. BB routes often disappear on the ground, sometimes you just have to follow the damn line and hope. Great vid, I was with you all the way, such an emotional rollercoaster. Congrats on getting round, from what I heard it was a tough one.
Pretty much sums up this type of event. Swinging from "Yay! This is the best!" To "I'm never doing this again, what am I doing?!" Back to "Yay! This is the best!" Throughout. Amazing how much food plays a part in your outlook and mood too. Great video, thanks.
Hey Juliet I just wanted to say how wonderful and inspiring so many of your videos are, as an occasionally sponsored ‘athlete’ from another field, now finding my way deep into the cycling world (also in Devon!) and attempting to make the odd video I just love your perspective on life. This pandemic absolutely sucks but you and Dave are both inspiring me to explore more of my doorstep so thank you both!
Having entered 7 BB200s over the years, I can understand what you went through. The old "I can't see a track or visible route" is a very common occurrence. I finished 4 out of the 7 I entered, with 2 under 24 hours. The only way I could ever hope to finish before cut off was to ride through without stopping. I am not a very fast rider, so need to keep moving as much as possible. There are loads of great bivvy places around here in South Devon, so you won't be disappointed when you get around to trying bivvying. Maybe try the Welsh Ride Thing next year? No competitive element, plus up to two nights out in the Cambrians. Great fun.
Tremendous achievement. Another example of the key not being physical ability, although clearly that is present, but the mental drive to push past when your body and parts of your brain are telling you to stop.
Great job and thanks for keeping it real. Love how you put heart and soul into everything. I do wonder how many were in the event. Looked to be a lonely ride, but that's not all bad sometimes.
You are so tenacious! I’d never get through that ride, probably never would’ve started it. Congratulations on finishing, treat yourself to something delicious and rest up!
Lovely to see my birth country, I spent many years swimming in Keepers pond, The Gap on a Gravel bike was ambitious! Years back on rigid MTB and wearing rugby shorts rattling down that! Good effort by way!
That was amazing Juliet, well done, and yes, maybe you should have try bivy before, but so is how we all learn, better carry a bit more stuff to stay warm and don't need it than being on the edge. You handle correct, that was no track to go and you are not the first one that becomes tears of scare or frustration...I usually shout my frustration out and feel better after, after a bit raspy voice, but Ok! Being there done that: "I'll never ever again do something like this"...2 days later: "Oh, I could go......" Keep going, stay safe, we all love you and your good vibes.
Just let me quickly move my food aside, because after this video I have to leave a comment. Thanks you! I laughed, cried and sweared while watching and in the end I knew why I love this stuff so much. And what I really appreaciate is that you favor your inner dialogs with yourself instead of thinking about "what one should or shoud not". Here I really can learn a trick or two :) Again, thanks you!
Good job!!! That takes a lot of something to do a ride through the night ON YOUR OWN. I would have done the same thing, getting a room that night, that was a really smart choice I think, because being cold could make you get sick and its not worth getting sick!
Hi Juliet. Found this via the Bearbones forum. Great video. Looks like you really put yourself out there. Congratulations on getting round, having thrown yourself in at the deep end. Can't wait to see what you get up to when you start bivvying too.
Yea! I knew you could do it. You rock! Did look like you needed a hug at one point, but that's the nature of these longer events. Plus, "I'm never doing that again" usually does turn into you showing up for another one next year.
That was stonking! You are one tough cookie and an inspiration to show what is possible. I have two daughters and its great for them to see what such a great roll model you are and what a positive mental attitude can do in overcoming challenges. Looking forward to seeing your next adventure.
This beautifully illustrates the roller coaster of emotions involved in a super long remote solo ride. Kudos on powering through to the end! The temptation to cut things short is always so overpowering, but it's so satisfying to defy those urges!
Congratulations on a very hard outing. The feeling of being lost can be overwhelming but you pushed through till the end. This is an event you won't ever forget because experiences and not things stay with us till the end of time!!!
Well done Juliette really felt the highs and lows you went through and quite easy to have navigation issues in the wilds of Wales, must of taken some mental strength to carry on. Looking forward to the next one.
Bloody well done!! I think the kind of events where you don’t know if you’ve got it in you are the ones where you really see what you’re made of and where real personal growth happens. I remember dragging myself through the last few miles of the London marathon repeating the mantra, “You don’t DNF unless you pass out or die!” I have the greatest of respect for you sticking it out and doing all that on the gravel bike. 💚
Well done, many have felt that pain a fair few times.. having not ridden this yrs yet it looks tough but takes some doing to beat the meany that was 2014... well done Stuart;0)
Oh man, really had me thinking you were gonna call it off. I could see the frustration and defeat in your face, but then you're like "nope, gonna keep going". Absolutely made my day. You're a beast for sticking it out. Absolutely inspiring. Thank you for sharing your experience on this.
Hey Juliet, well done on completing this epic ride! On your own too, that took real courage. Good to see that you got some sleep when you needed it and avoided riding some difficult stuff in the dark. Congratulations again!
Yes it gets hard, then come the good, nice, easy and enjoyable bits and then crappy again. And and after a few days, you (we all) want to do it again. It's hard but IT IS GOOD
Loved the video. Watching you is contagious because you’re so real and sweet. Like others have already said it’s the toughest struggles that in the end inspire us most. Great job!
Well done!!!!!!!!! You are an inspiration!!!!!!! I always enjoy your videos! You're always so positive! It was interesting seeing you struggle during some parts of this ride! My wife and I just completed a gruelling 1,000 kilometre ride in British Columbia! There were definitely some low points during our ride!
Wow!! Well done Juliet. You made it even though it was really hard. I am going to Lake District soon for my first bike packing rides and your videos helped me a lot with preparation and inspiration. Keep doing what you are doing. Your family must be proud.
That was probably the most real and inspiring one of these videos I have seen, As someone with a very limited sense of direction I really felt for you every time you got lost, but you kept going, thanks for not just putting up the pretty highlights, but letting us see just how it is... super happy for you that you finished. Well done, I have just become a new subscriber... Cheers from Oz🌞🚴🏻♀️🚴🏻♀️
I love the honesty you bring to all your videos, congratulations on completing the ride. To achieve in life and cycling we need to push ourselves one step/rotation at a time. Keep on moving forwards
Juliet, the moment you decided to carry on at the fork, I decided to subscribe. You have amazing tenacity. Very happy to see you triumph..good luck and looking forward to more
Fantastic effort-courageous and the way you shared even the mental struggle and frustration at times coupled with pure joy normalized that experience for hacks like me who aren’t even close to your level of skill.
Nothing but the most enormous respect for you. To go through such an emotional challenge and still record it and make it available is so inspirational. We/I have no right to ask for it, but a video about this experience when you have a little more hindsight might be instructive for us and therapeutic for you. Just a thought. I remain in awe.
Juliet, I admire you persevering on this rough terrain with your gravel bike. My 29" inch wheeled MTB would have eaten that track for breakfast. Sometimes you need a monster truck on these rides of yours rather than the light sports car you seem to favour .......but that daid, go to it gal ...your an amazing athlete.
That was outstanding, Juliet!! I've been that lost, that unsure of where I was or which way to go, with nothing around to indicate which way to head --it's frightening and you do what you do to keep going. And nice job in finishing the route! So, so awesome. Keep at it. Big ups from The Planet Houston!
Well done from an NZ fan. I’m off on a 420km brevet with 5,500m this 3 day weekend and doubt I’ll be dragging myself out of my tent days 2 and 3 with such a cheery “morning!” (Unless I sleep in too). Inspirational, thanks.

Ski touring - most of it is type 2 fun, but a) there's enough type 1 to keep you going through while you are there, and b) it's bl**dy addictive!
Amazing how the toughest challenges, when its over and you feel broken, call you back again and again...
Great ride, video, and attitude!
Well done. Good call on checking into that B & B! It is not a sign of failure changing your plans during your journeys. Even with the best preparation, plans can change. I do that too. Dave will be so proud of you. But keep safe for your daughter and husband above all.

Thank you, it was tough but brilliant. Still kinda wished I’d bivvied on it but never mind. I need a warmer sleeping bag before I can do that!

Thanks so much
I was worn out just watching that, great stuff so many highs and lows , glad you didn’t give up and completed it well done
So pleased when you said you were carrying on. Felt for you and thanks for the videos.
Good for you digging deep to go for the finish! Congratulations!
Good ride. Now you are ready for next year!
I don't often watch films all the way through on RUclips but I really enjoyed the unvarnished take on your experience. Well done. Type 2 fun.
I admire your grit and determination to finish the course. Even though you had your doubts I knew you would complete it.
It was a close call !
Well done for not giving up you really are a winner in our eyes!! 🤩🤩🤩🤩👍
You are one tough cookie! I’m so impress with your mental and physical strength.
Epic, real feel. Real riding. Inspired.
Well done. Super-impressed. Tough course. Good decisions. Thank goodness it didn't rain.
I chose to do it that day because it wasn’t meant to rain. Thank god it didn’t!
Juliet, thank you for being such an inspiration!
Well done on not giving up. Been in that position so many times. Then 2 days later I am signing up for the next challenge.
Lovely to see my birth country, I spent many years swimming in Keepers pond, The Gap on a Gravel bike was ambitious! Years back on rigid MTB and wearing rugby shorts rattling down that! Good effort by way!
I enjoy that you show both the good and the bad, that is sometimes how it goes. Good job, totally enjoyed it.
congrats Juliet. Great effort. happy to see Im not the only one who starts second-guessing.
Outstanding. She’s no quitter. Totally awesome 😎
what an awesome and inspiring person you are Juliet - well done you!
Juliet, you are smashing, just absolutely smashing. I love, love, love watching your videos ❤️
