Try this Juliet...Navigation--Courses--Saved Courses....Now down in the right hand corner are three lines stack up on each other tap on that. You will see Turn Guidance....Make sure that is enabled. If not you will not get your turn notifications. Should solve your problems. Love watching your videos. I live in New Jersey and would love to have all the gravel you have over there.
Met Vish on the Camel Trail last week , he’d been cycling around Cornwall and was on his way to Bodmin to catch a train to London. What a lovely fella.
Awesome scenery ,take care after this covid jab ,I went running after mine and was hit with a sledgehammer afterwards just a heads up ,hope you have a great day
Such a treat to watch while both my bikes are down for repairs at the moment. Riding a bike is something everyone should be doing. Imagine how much more fit and happy everyone would be?! Cheers from Maine USA!
I really enjoyed watching, thanks. I have re-ridden a few of your rides on Dartmoor and will def do this one.... And yes, I’d love you to post a Dartmoor ride on your XC MTB please
Spent last week cycling round Dartmoor. That grass was killer up some of the routes we took. Just seems to grip hold of the bike to prevent any forward motion. We took our 29er XC hardtails and I was thankful for the front forks. Helped us up and down some of the more technical terrain. Amazing fun though and stunning views! My Garmin Edge touring sucked though with routing. Had a few routes downloaded, but if you miss one small bit (and even if you don't), it spends the rest of the entire ride trying to reroute you. I found it best to turn 'recalculation', 'course turn guidance' and 'off course warnings' off and just follow the purple line, but that can be problematic if tracks overlap as you're not sure which way to go then. For a circular route, perfectly fine.
This is bringing my mind back to when I cycled around Ireland many moons ago. I also had SD card errors with my GoPro 9. I took that SD card and did a full on format that took some time and, at the time, there was an update for the GoPro. Knock on wood, so far so good.
For fixing the Garmin - get a Wahoo ;). JK - but I did have much improved nav once I switched! For the COVID jab, I ran a marathon the next day after my first, and only had heartburn after the second. Seems like every one has vastly different experiences
Beautiful weather! Nice gravel! The scenery is beautiful! This was another awesome video. Your riding is so different compared to the riding I’m doing in British Columbia. For one, you don’t have to worry about bears! 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Hey Juliet, I stumbled upon your page a couple of weeks ago and I am hooked! Great content, scenery, information and fun commentary. I’m glad you don’t take yourself too seriously. For your rides can you attach links to your Strava or whatever you use? It would be cool to see your route, distance, elevation gain, duration and any other techie metrics. Cheers, Nick
Hey Nick, thanks for the kind words! My rides are always on Strava and there’s always a link to my Strava account In the description so it’s just a matter of looking at the publishing date of the video and checking out my rides around that date
Looks like a wicked ride... Though some of that route looks like it would eat my bike alive!! Your wheels are made of stronger stuff than mine for sure!
Looks a great route. There’s another route near there I was going to do last summer but ran out of time. Pretty sure there’s a deserted village and some stone circles.
I was struggling for awhile with the same issues with my GoPro 9. I realized that the problem was happening only when using one particular SD card, try to FORMAT your SD card and that should take care of it. Good luck and let me know if that worked for you! Loved the video!
I just watched a video from Tony on the outsider channel and he had the same problems with the go pro 9. He went back to the 8 because all the problems.
if you're planning some wild camping, given the season, you ought to cross-ref with foraging maps, Juliet. If you're in Devil's Dyke, plenty of apples, sloes, pears...don't know if Dartmoor is reliable that way
GPS might be going a bit nuts because of the Radon in Dartmoor - always affected compasses/magnets in the past (hence military using it for training exercises) so might just be a one-off!
That's not how Radon works either. It's a radioactive gas. Nothing to do with compasses or magnets, but if you have a bar-mounted geiger counter on your bike, it may indeed go nuts. The Military use Dartmoor because it's wild and remote, and have done since the early. 1800's. Radon wasn't discovered until 1899.
What were those Llama's half the way around.. Company does a "Walk a Llama" for stress relief around by me lol.. Juliet . You need to make its your life mission to learn Dartmoor forwards backwards and sideways. you can save a bit of weight and leave the Garmin at home then lol.. Some guy in the news steered his car into a canal recently on the say so of some GPS kit lol..
I am not an expert but I *think* the turn-by-turn navigation issue is because some filetypes don't encode the right sort of data... Were you using a GPX file for this ride? If so, that might be the problem. I think if you build the course in the Garmin connect app it will work but otherwise you might want a FIT or TCX file.... I think!
I recognised some parts of that route 😉 I'm going to write a post about best way to use your Garmin, give me a shout if you want any help. Maybe we should organise a group ride on some of the routes but no MTB's, they're gravel routes 😎😂
I always find the best luck with direction cues when using routes from Ride With GPS. Very good turn by turn. But I also use Wahoo Bolt instead of a Garmin, so keep that in mind
Agree, RWGPS works well for me. Garmin user. I have found that most navigation problems come when using someone else’s routes. When I create my own on RWGPS I have no issues. I usually overlay the NCN. Also Cycling UK routes work well on my Garmin.
830 isn’t it, you can turn “turn by turn navigation” off be my only suggestion really, bit of rubber chicken waving but probably worth doing that any way, only navigating glitches I’ve had is to accidentally switch it off, if I’ve been swiping though pages and hit the red x, easy to turn it back on but a bit irritating, only on gravel rides as I switch between, rather than MTB where I leave it on map.
As has been said, you’re following a trail rather than a route. Short of replotting the route there’s not a lot you can do. I’ll also second all those saying that moving to wahoo is a no-brainer if you’re looking to use navigation a lot. The way that wahoo integrates with mapping sites (ridewithgps, Strava, Komoot etc...) is infinitely better than garmin.
That’s happened to me with my Garmin. I noticed it happened when I chose the option to navigate to start of route. If I decline that option I’ve never had this happen. Hope you figure it out.
Hi Juilliet. When I am following a route on the first screen of my Garmin I have a a “distance to destination “ box, so when I am not sure still on track as long as the number keeps going down means I am not lost. I cycle mainly on roads though
Hey Julliet, thanks for the feature... it's absolutely marvelous meeting you in amazing Dartmoor ,take care cheers✨🚵
What gearing are you running on that singlespeed?
@@davidadamus177 hi it's 42*18
@@vishsolo2879 that's impressive with all that gear 😎
@@davidadamus177 yeah kind of at times it's absolutely a herculean task, but I'm enjoying it
Vish ,hope you are enjoying Devon ,I am in Plymouth if need assistance ,take care and enjoy while the weather is with you 👍
Single speed on Dartmoor makes that man a hero. The hills are relentless.

Met Vish on the Camel Trail last week , he’d been cycling around Cornwall and was on his way to Bodmin to catch a train to London. What a lovely fella.
Did this route today, lovely, the weather spoilt me.
Man, this is all gorgeous landscape!
Use komoot on your phone it’s easier by a long way. Garmin navigation is poor off road.
Great video again keep em coming 👍
I get the best navigation from RideWithGPS on my smartphone.
I'm very jealous of the scenery, gravel trails and roads you have there.
What a beautiful part of the country! Such variety too! It’s like a mini tour from afar!
Your rides always have such nice scenery!
Don’t they though almost won’t to move there
I for one , was shocked, that you were late AND got lost ;) Great stuff :)
😂
I want Vishnu's Vans tracksuit bottoms! What a dude x
Reminds me of 70s CTC .. Old baggy football tracksuits etc..
Awesome scenery ,take care after this covid jab ,I went running after mine and was hit with a sledgehammer afterwards just a heads up ,hope you have a great day
Any day that starts with a video by you is surely going to be a great day Juliet!
What a nice thing to say, thank you!
That just looks like my perfect day on the bike 🌤️🚴🏼♂️
ohhh nice 1 looing forward trying some of them out
Such a treat to watch while both my bikes are down for repairs at the moment. Riding a bike is something everyone should be doing. Imagine how much more fit and happy everyone would be?! Cheers from Maine USA!
Beautiful country!!
Fantastic video Juliet love watching your talent on a bike! Take care Juliet
brilliant travelogue. great ride.
Awesome ride. Your videos always brighten my day!
That ride looks lush Juliet, I'm planning for some bikepacking on Dartmoor soon so added it to the list! Fingers crossed for more gorgeous weather ...
Mountain bike is a good idea, more comfortable for sure!

Another dose of cycling happiness keep it up!
oh my, visnhu's chain.....
Haha that's right it's rust outside waxed inside haha 😛
What a stunning part of the UK you live in. I must visit on my gravel bike...

Claire is right!!! Garmin doesn't do it, Wahoo is plug and play...
nice ride, and a banjo too!
We first saw gorse on the Coast 2 Coast hike across England. You’re right, a lovely smell.
I use a Garmin eTrex as where I ride is very remote. It doesn't miss a beat. I never use Garmin edge for navigation.
Gorse bush in bloom smells like coconut to me too, but supposedly not everyone smells it the same.
The flowers of the gorse are very nice to eat, have a delicate buttery taste..... a wild edible
Amazing video Julliet.
Thank you
single speed touring is a toughie!
Oh yes, the coconut gorse... in NZ we hate gorse... it is a nuisance plant... but the smell of it on the moors was heavenly! It's name is just Gorse!
You can't leave and we can't enter England! Bugger! Excellent video and beautiful scenery. Slainte! from Boulder, CO USA!
Great video Juliet, I use Komoot found so many new gravel routes and with a wahoo ELEMNT roam , it’s never let me down , garmin not so good off road 🙂
It feels a little different watching a video with the sun out, lol
Great ride!

Super enjoyable video. Beautiful country. Would love to come and visit with mountain bike someday.
Superb!!!
Great ride! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for sharing, regards from Just Driving 4K
Well done!
Looks like a wicked ride... Though some of that route looks like it would eat my bike alive!! Your wheels are made of stronger stuff than mine for sure!
You need to have a look at the Hammerhead Karoo 2 it's exalant for a bike computer, much better than my Garmin. Lovely ride by the way. 😘👍
Great vlog, I just love coconut sun cream !!!👌😎👍
Looks like fun, I think you should go back with the XC!
Looks a great route. There’s another route near there I was going to do last summer but ran out of time. Pretty sure there’s a deserted village and some stone circles.

Keep cycling while the sun shines
I just watched a video from Tony on the outsider channel and he had the same problems with the go pro 9. He went back to the 8 because all the problems.
Interesting! I’d do the same only I have bought a case with a Mic, the Media Mod for my 9 and I haven’t got one for my 8

I know little about foraging but it would be fun to learn
Love your gravel rides :)
Hope you feel OK after the jab.. I went for a ride after mine and was aching like mad the next morning.. Great vid 👍
Another piece of inspiration Juliet. Fabulous. Hope you’re ok after your jab.
omg what a great ride!
Yup, XC bike please. Same route too. Cheers
Definition of a gentleman - a chap who knows how to play a banjo but doesn't
Great weather and riding Juliet try the xc bike out
Garmin advice , get a Wahoo!
Thank you.

Beautiful ride, my GoPro Hero5 has a quirk where sometimes the battery drains to 0% if charged & left off for a day or two 😵
Cracking ride proper nice, be interested to see how it is on the XC bike.

XC !!!.....as in...that was an X-C-LENT video, and yes, more XC bike please :)
Juliet, you probably get asked all the time, but what cameras do you use?
Love the videos.
Hey Julliet.
Maybe it is harder then it looks to have a bike riding life. Nice job. Beautiful.
Which gloves you wear?
Greetings from Berlin
I always find the best luck with direction cues when using routes from Ride With GPS. Very good turn by turn. But I also use Wahoo Bolt instead of a Garmin, so keep that in mind
Haha. I just saw where you ran into the other ride with the Wahoo.. looked like a great ride

Hi Julliet great looking ride, looks perfect for an XC mountain bike 😉 what Skoda have you got now? how did you find the Kodiak for carrying bikes?
it looked like a mountain bike trail! How close are you to Heligan Estate?

You have a banjo! I didn't realize you owned a weapon of mass destruction.
My garmin was the same so I ditched route planning on it and used kamoot, which is way better. Hope the wrist was ok on the ride😀
This was planned on Komoot
@@JulietElliottsChannel I play the directions through my earphones from my phone for kamoot but that gives you warnings etc
That’s happened to me with my Garmin. I noticed it happened when I chose the option to navigate to start of route. If I decline that option I’ve never had this happen. Hope you figure it out.
I learned this the hard way yesterday!
Oh, yes please, more with your MTB.
Hi Juliet, where do you get your routes from? Would love to know. Thank you, excellent video as usual.
Hi Juilliet. When I am following a route on the first screen of my Garmin I have a a “distance to destination “ box, so when I am not sure still on track as long as the number keeps going down means I am not lost. I cycle mainly on roads though
i just love the snow my lovers..
It's Ulex Europeaus, better known as common native gorse.
Same issue with Garmin. It doesn't like when the GPS track I follow is crossing itself...
My tips is use karoo-2 or Bryton ryder 750. ..garmin is unreliable and way too expensive..
Hi what sort of bike would you recommend for the Tarka Trail road or mtb
MTB would be overkill but if that’s all you have then ride that. Anything would be fine
You are fun.
I know you have posted this somewhere Juliet, but what is the frame size of your Marin headlands gravel bike?
Some Garmin files have direction notifications and some do not.
Did you do the hole ride with 30psi. That was the mix of road and path you where on.
it must be great to go on a ride i work 12 hours a day and then bed ...............
