      @@teleaddict23 Another channel that just ended with no explanations. But had a fast growing audience and tremendous possibilities was grain TV I think it was called. But he seems to have had some kind of emotional break down. He attacked a few people in the comments when they said things like long time no see, good to see you back etc.

    I have been getting some inspiration from photographers of that 60s era lately. I love the wonderful work of Vivian Maier also. Got me thinking, who are the photographers of today that will be recognised in years to come? I can't think of anyone because everyone is a photographer now. When you've got Instagram with millions of images, how would it be possible for someone like Diane Arbus to stand out today?

    • @ForesthillFilmLab

      Fonejacker I truly don’t believe anybody can. That’s what makes these photographers so special. They truly loved photography and put the work in back in a time when work was required to be a photographer. These days canon and nikon have removed the need for any real effort and has invited everybody to be a photographer the “easy way” it’s a tragedy really. It’s so hard to set yourself apart from the pack when the pack is so fucking huge! Back in these days it was parents with Kodak instamatics and then real dedicated photographers. There was a clear difference between the two and the amateurs never claimed to be the professionals. Unfortunately those days are over

    • @teleaddict23
      @teleaddict23 4 года назад

      ForesthillFilmLab Totally agree! Such a different time. A good photo actually meant something then because we weren’t bombarded with images. To be a good photographer was a skill, you had to know your settings, be good at manual focus etc and the cameras were expensive. The downfall was definitely the switch to digital accompanied by Instagram. Great for amateurs but killed it for genuinely talented people.

      You may wish to check out the work of British photographer Iain Mckell, I understand the work of Diane Arbus has been a big influence on his photography. www.iainmckell.com/ #Iainmckell @Iainmckell

    Diane Arbus also worked with her husband, Alan Arbus who was also photographer. Reading books about her life she learned a lot about photography working as her husband’s assistant and setting up studio sets and acted as a behind the scenes jack of all trades. Once she broke away from her husband and started her unique style of photography, she was well on her way. I’m glad I recently found your channel and have been watching your videos. Though long 😉 I’ve found them informative and fun to watch.

    Hey Travis, not sure if you're still looking for video ideas but if you are, I would love to see your take on the technical differences of medium format and 35mm photography. There seems to be a lot of misinformation around what can be accomplished with medium format, and "the medium format look". You always seem to explain things better than anyone else so maybe its something you could look into tackling

    Sad someone with some much promise. was lost to suicide. A thought that grows too big for one person to handle and all it takes is for one to speak up. and say they there dealing with it to go on. Travis a tribute to Arbus and topic that need to talked about. Suicide can happen to anyone.

    A Box of Ten dedicated to B.F. which you mention was the one she gave to 'Bea Feitler' whom she met in the Art Department of a Harper's Bazaar where Marvin Israel her friend and lover was Art-Director for a while. When Israel was fired due to 'miscommunications' she and another colleague took over. (see 'Revelations p. 166ff.) Diane also suffered from sever depressions which is why she took her own life. She had inherited the predisposition from her mother. A therapist whom she went to see did not get a grip on her. All the details are displayed in the excellent biography written by Arthur Lubow which you might want to consider reading.

    Patricia Bosworth's biog of Arbus is excellent. It shows another side to her. Her relationship to her sitters (some described themselves as being 'Arbused') was complicated. The power of her work isn't wholly benign, and you can feel that looking at it.
