Easily one of the best composition tutorials on the internet, and your politics of the gaze blew my mind and I hope you start making these videos again
Thanks Travis. You're right, most people are happy to bang on about how their gear is great and yours is not but few will talk about their composition techniques and actually impart advice. Least of all for free....
Here is the list: Rule of thirds Vanishing point Leading lines Framing Symmetry Asymmetry Texture Radial composition Repetitions Force perspective Bird's-eye view Worms's-eye view Filling the frame Subject isolation
An awesome summaries of composition. My two cents: for the isolation part, besides depth of field, panning can also create isolation. And for the bird view part, a lot of people use bird view for their self file just because when shooting their face with the wider angle of their smart phone closely, their face looks unnatural to them, so they use bird view as a compensation.
Great video, a lot times I'm is a hurry and forget about composition, camera settings, lens a lot of times I have the wrong lens on my camera. I hope you do more videos like this.
Great tips, always good to go back to the basics of composition. You can have the most expensive camera but without proper consideration of composition your images will suck 😃
Hi Forest, nice to go through this video tutorial about composition with you. What do you reckon, for the sake of a good composed photo, should it follow only one composition style or could it have a mix of different styles?
oh maybe your phone's sensor is blocked with some smudges and why your fingerprint isn't read, and change the timer lock to, maybe, 5-10 minutes. Cover your pin by the way, lol, I can see you're pressing 1106, or I might be mistaken. :-p ;-)
Hey, dude, love your videos, by the way, you look like Fidel Castro when he was young. Did you consider to create some kind of cool B&W photo with Fidel B&W photo behind you?
I was going to comment about moms too : D They're human, can be better photographers than us. Actually, a lot of the times we find old cameras in our homes, belong to our parents : D
it definently can, i even think it is a bit more effective becouse the hight and with are the same size within the image. it can even apply to round photographs but i would still make the lines straight as if they are parallell then too a square frame around the image. only thing i can think of not using it for is the vertical part of wide panoramas
I like the old photos of the attractive stewardess( Flight attendant) sitting in the cowling of the jet engine. It uses radial, repetition, and juxtaposition.

luxdosul a good photo can have multiple different techniques comprised into one photo definitely. You never need to stick to just one rule.

Holy Crap Thanks for the video really helped me understand composition keep it up :)
very good, thank you very much.
Composition is the difference between taking snapshots and photographs.
So is it okay to put vanishing point at the rule of thirds intersection?
bx wx hell yea! There are no rules but it won't look bad!
Thanks for this video, Forest. :-)

Does the rule of thirds apply to photos that are square? No right?
it definently can, i even think it is a bit more effective becouse the hight and with are the same size within the image.

I prefer to call them guidelines to composition.
