      I think it's just the fact that there are not testers so you have to guess your shade by how it looks in the bottle. But this demonstrates that how it looks in the bottle is not how it looks on your skin.

    the Maybelline fit me is one of the best drugstore foundation, why so negative? not everybody has the money to go to Sephora.

    • @tgrey1885
      @tgrey1885 7 лет назад +122

      I don't think they're trying be negative on purpose, but if you have a deeper skin tone, or you're a women of color, you generally won't find your color in the drugstore. It's either to light or two dark, which causes them to have to mix foundations. That can be nerve-wracking, especially when they only had a few samples on display. It's just easier to go to Sephora. I think that they already know what the result will be because they've probably tried it before with no success.

      Sierra Vald It's not about it being a drugstore foundation. They're "complaining" because they can't find the perfect shade for them. As a POC it's really fustrating buy foundation at the drugstore.

    The revlon looked literally perfect on Jazzmyne. When you're actively looking for things to hate, you aren't going to have a good experience. Many drugstore brands are trying so hard to be inclusive and expand their shade range, and half the time the retailer doesn't even stock the entire selection. The Maybelline Fit Me that Caity complained about has 24 color options, and it has more than one shade darker than Cappuccino. It's not the brand's fault that you went to one store and bought 2 products hoping to find your "perfect match." That's never going to work for anyone, regardless of skin tone.

    • @Jetblack1979red
      @Jetblack1979red 7 лет назад +57

      That's the impression I got. They went in already decided that they hated everything and it that it wasn't going to work. Not sure what the purpose of this video was if none of them were actually into it.

    • @freederry8047
      @freederry8047 7 лет назад +11

      Morgan Lyttle So if they really wanted to find their match, they should have spent their time combing through every drugstore in their area and buying multiple bottles of foundation to test out? The point is buying foundation at the drugstore is kind of difficult for WOC, even though companies might be trying to be more inclusive. Not having the entire shade range but having mostly pale shades in a store is kind of exclusive. Having to go to multiple drugstores to find one right shade is also exclusive. By and by, the light skin beauty standard that has existed still seems to win out over carrying the full spectrum of shades a makeup company might bring out, which needs to change so the drugstore can actually BE inclusive. If the drugstore could offer testers the way Sephora and Ulta do, the journey would also be easier for WOC so they don't have to buy 10 shades to try out at home. As a matter of fact, a few Walgreens I've been to lately have an employee in the beauty section who will let you try on foundations to see if they match you. They even have sponges to put them on with, cleansing balms, makeup wipes, lip applicators. The drugstore is getting there, but it still has a long way to go before it really caters to all skintones.

    • @morganlyttle6137
      @morganlyttle6137 7 лет назад +3

      I completely agree! It's much easier to find a shade match at higher end stores where testers are available, but it's also unfair to make the more affordable brands seem like they aren't trying. Hopefully more retailers will follow Walgreen's lead and make affordable makeup accessible to everyone (:

      George Washington I didn't really see "hate" in this particular video, but I do see Buzzfeed hating on drugstore makeup, which I don't understand. It's not like high end makeup has the best shade range, either. The only downfall with drugstore makeup is that you can't swatch it.

      Ava Midgley this video focuses on foundation, specifically foundation for people of color, which I can say from experience is really hard to find in drugstores, as there is often a very limited amount of shades, and they are often extremely yellow or very extremely blue in undertone for som god forsaken reason. That is what this video is trying to convey. There is nothing necessarily wrong with drug store make up, but for people of color it’s hard finding foundation and base products that match them, sometimes in some cases it’s impossible. For you as a white person, it is most likely a little easier.

      They are negative only for a reason that there is no way to try drugstore makeup before buying, moreover the selection of colors is pretty poor when it comes to deep colors. I have pale skin and whatever I purchased at drugstore was just miss because it doesn't match my skin tone, and I couldn't try the foundation before buying. It would be probably even worse if I had only 3 colors to select from.

      NE I find it extremely hard to believe that our of all the drug store brands, out of all the shades, every single one of them could not find just one shade that matched them. A lot of other commenters have mentioned they have had little difficulty in finding a shade to match them from the many options.
      I'm a fan of drugstore brands. I find that they tend to cater to regular people while high end brands don't care to cater to people with darker skin, mostly.

    • @aaaaddddaaa
      @aaaaddddaaa 7 лет назад +4

      Especially with the foundations they mentioned. Loreal is one of the only corps that TRIES to be inclusive. That's why they all had a shade of fit me to match them!!!! So either, bring on darker skinned girls, or shut up tbqh.

      There's also the problem with undertones most drugstore foundations for dark skin run red. I have golden undertones so red makes me look orange and like my head is floating on my shoulders. Also most drugstores especially in the suburbs like where I live don't carry the darker shades you have to order them online where you definitely can't swatch.

      Tyana03 ...all of the girls said they could have either gone with a shade darker/lighter at the store or tried another brand. So it was not that there are not options, but that they didn't pick them. Doing people makeup is what I do for a living and reviewing products here on RUclips, there is absolutely a shade for everyone at the both the drugstore and higher end retailers. I agree it is ridiculous sorting through all the shades there without testers, but all of the participants in this video acknowledged that they saw either a lighter or darker shade available but didn't think it would match.

      Meredith Little uh no. She meant those were her only options for that foundation that looked even remotely close to her skin tone period, because they didn't go darker. That means there won't always be a perfect shade, but it can still work with some powder and concealer. Well to be fair, it is hard to find drugstore foundation for light skin, too. I have to buy my foundation online because they are all too dark and/or too orange for me. And I'm not even super light, just lighter than the majority of the women in my country.
      And there also is very good drugstore makeup.

      If I found a foundation that actually works for my skin and is my perfect shade, it happens to be high end (almost $50) but I purchase it once every 6-8 months. That's 100% worth it to me lol I have literally 100 foundations in my collection, so I've tried and tried again most drugstore products. I've wasted WAY more than $50 at the drugstore trying to find a perfect foundation lol

I'm pale but not VERY pale and I still have problems finding shades whether it's because they don't run light enough or I'm in between shades. it's not easy for anybody I don't think because everybody is so different. I get that especially darker girls have problems finding makeup shades but you have to at least give the companies points for trying. they can't cater to everybody's needs perfectly no matter the shade, undertones, or skin type

    I think their being pretty unfair to drugstore foundation brands, like I remember when all you could get was warm-toned medium shades and nothing else, like recently I drugstore brands have tried t branch out their shades so Idk why they were complaining about being too dark at the beginning ... also I'd like to point out that not all dark-skinned ladies out there can afford to go get higher end $20+ foundation and they shouldn't have to, I'd would have thought they'd be more fair in their reviews of the drugstore stuff to help guide these women (or men ) on what to look out for at the drugstore but instead they just whine and and throw bare shade at everyone who cant afford to buy NARS or whatever. Very pointless video if you ask me.

    When Buzzfeed women think that everyone has disposal incomes and can just drop any amount of money on makeup. Mind you, high-end make-up is notorious for having a smaller shade range than drugstore makeup. Drugstore makeup is known for having a lot of shades while high-end usually caters to lighter skin. This is widely known. Sorry that us peasants can't afford "high-end" great makeup Buzzfeed. Thanks for basically bagging on the only thing most people can afford that works just fine.

      I can barely ever find my shade anywhere because I am too pale. And the difference is yes, drugstore may have a larger shade range, but the majority of ones for WOC are actually not accurate to a true skin tone. They are either way too orange-toned or way too ashy. High end not only is usually better and safer for your face, but also is more accurate to the true skintones of WOC/ Super pale women. They tried and had some issues, just as I have issues as well. I'd have to agree with Sabrina's take, that is more their goal of what they were trying to say.

      Drugstores might have more shades BUT the shades aren't the right tone for most POC. I just started wearing makeup last year but browsing through higher end and lower end makeup I can see that I am the darkest shade in a lot of drugstore brands that aren't catered towards us. There are great brands that are POC specific but they're hard to find in store. But in saying this, drugstore brands didn't start expanding their foundation shades until a couple years ago.

      Zoe Domm she never said anything about being dark, her only concern was undertones not being right for her. wrong undertones in makeup can make a big difference and is usually what causes one to be "ashy" or "orange". i'm olive skinned and fair to medium depending on how tan i am, its still hard to find matches at the drug store because most of their "yellow" and "warm" toned foundations still pull orange on my face. doesn't matter if the actual shade of the makeup (IN THEORY) matched my skin color.

      I didn't get the missing out-part. The reactions I saw were meant to acknowledge that although the struggle for very pale people is not the same as it is for PoC, it is quite similar, and we might understand each other in this aspect. Makeup brands need to widen their colourselection (+more undertones) both ways, and not only focus on the medium-skin types. Personally, I don't feel underrepresented, just frustrated that the standards for foundations in 2017 still don't fit so many people.

Freddy has the best skin so the makeup didn't look bad on her, but the application on Jazzmyne and the other girl on the left and side in the other duo both looked awful. No coverage at all, you could see dark spots and circles like they weren't even wearing foundation.

    • @przytulania
      @przytulania 7 лет назад +10

      There's no coverage because of foundation they choose, I would recommend Revlon Colorstay or Max Factor Lastin Performance if you want good coverage, but I'm not sure if there will be suitable colors for dark skin, in Poland you can choose from 6-7 shades.

    Their makeup looks fine... the struggle that they keep complaining about is that they couldn't find their shade, but that's how it is for everyone shopping in the drugstore. If that was the point of this video, then why would Buzzfeed only cast women of color? I'm pale af with yellow undertones and that's difficult to find at the drugstore too. I understand that the point of having more minorities that are shared on social media, is to give more exposure to try and make society be more inclusive. Drugstore makeup has come a long way to include people of every skin tone, and I think that this video was predisposed with the notion that they wouldn't like it because "there isn't a color for me." ... But there actually was a color so they didn't know what to do. If you're going to try and make a video about women of color, own it, and say it in the title. If you're going to make a video about "women," especially if it's a makeup video, then use a variety of skin tones. I don't know. I'm just tired of the negativity on Buzzfeed. This video is a major fail.

    • @alainabainax3
      @alainabainax3 7 лет назад +16

      They should've used this topic to highlight how far drugstore makeup has come instead of being so negative. Again, their makeup looked good. They didn't even talk about how they liked the makeup itself, just the damn color.

      Hello these are black women. Of course they're not trying to say they're too good for drugstore makeup. Did you not notice how they struggled IMMENSELY to find foundations that worked for them?? They don't have much of a choice but to use higher end brands that make foundations for more skin tones. As a black woman myself, as much as I'd love to buy Maybelline foundation for $8, there's nothing that matches my skin well enough to get away with at my local supermarket. I HAVE to use designer makeup, I.e., Clinique, Nars, etc. Those women are also in my age group with jobs in fields similar to mine, which means that while they may be comfortable, they still probably don't have buckets of cash to just spend on something as frivolous as makeup! So check yourself and actually take in the dialogue that's happening in the video before you try to call someone out for being snobby!

    • @vanessadavis5441
      @vanessadavis5441 7 лет назад +3

      I'm a student who honestly does not have the money to be buying expensive foundation like that but most WOC like me are left with no choice! I live in the U.K. where shade selection in our "drugstores" are even worse and the one foundation that is dark enough for me (L'Oreal) is too red and makes me break out! I'd rather spend my money on a foundation that I know is dark enough with the correct undertones and the formula won't irritate my skin. We've begged for inclusion but it takes a long time for brands to listen, especially drugstore brands so until then; I guess many WOC will continue to sound "snobby" about drugstore foundation. Honestly, I'll get any other products from a drugstore apart from foundation!

    I’m the lightest shade you can get and have all these problems. Tbh people with medium toned skin probably have it the easiest, but it’s very very difficult to find an exact match regardless of your skin color. I thought some of these were pretty spot on. I use a shade that’s a little too yellow for me but it’s not really a big deal.

    I'm a makeup artist and you don't need a perfect match, if you use different cream and liquid complexion products of similar shades that are close to your skin tone and blend them together you'll find a pretty good shade. Also no one's face is all one colour so it's good to use foundations and concealers to create the complexion you want

    okay id like to add that no matter your skin colour (whether youre black, white, asian, latina, arab, mixed, etc.) theres never gonna be dozens of foundations that match your skin perfectly. some are gonna be too orange, to ashy, to dark, etc. i myself have difficulty and i don't consider myself to be on any side of the spectrum (very pale or very dark) and i still have difficulty finding a perfect one not only at the drugstore but at sephora too. anyways, just saying, firstly dont go into an experiment being so close minded and secondly, this problem isnt only present for a specific groupe of people.
