Thank you for showing the two ways to hold the rod. I use the second method exclusively- I have to feel the line telegraph the bites regardless of the lure, and it feels much more balanced to me. Besides, with my grip forward relative to the reel, it gives me more power on my hookset, vs holding the rod back farther.

I can't throw a caster. Just never have been able to get it down. My granddaddy was a master on Timberlake with bass and snappers. Me, 4000 yards of backlash. Lol

Get one of the Shimano DC reels. A 5 year old can cast one. I've been using baitcasters over 50 years. I started when I was in elementary school with the old junkers compared to today's reels. The new reels are much easier.

Practice Practice Practice i tried my first baitcaster something like 18 or so year's ago and couldn't figure it out. Then 2 summer's back i decided to give them a try again but I didn't wanna spend alot just incase I still hated it. So I took a drive over to Gander and picked up a cheap $50 combo by zebco and I just kept practicing in my yard. I tried several different line types also watched a few tutorials on RUclips. And now after not giving up i love my bait caster's and now own many 1 set up by 13 fishing 1 by abu Garcia and 2 by lew's. Oh and I also tried different pound tests along with different kinda line's. I learned the basics first on RUclips once I had those down I then stepped it up to more in depth videos on RUclips and I honestly now prefer a bait caster's in most cases over my spinning rods. Just stick with it leanr how to make your adjustments as needed depending on lure wieght and so on. Once you got all the basics down the rest will fall into place Naturally. Again just stick with it and Practice casting and learning from these guys on RUclips. Good luck

Adjust your spool tension knob until the lure slowly falls to the ground. Set your brakes half on. The rest is thumb work.

Just purchased the Profishiency 6’7 heavy.. Paired it up with a Lew’s Speed Spool. It is a sweet rod and feel is awesome. The only thing for me is the length below the reel seat. I like a little more length in the rod butt for my casting. Didn’t catch any BIGS but it had a great feel on the 1.5 pounders.

Holding a finger under the line is something I've always done and it causes line to build on one side of the spool sometimes with the Daiwa T-wing level winds. I like my Daiwas but not for baits I have to feel. I use them for my faster baits.

Hey boss I use glass cranking rods . And the "feel" is not there like graphite or carbon. Now that being said I feel like I hook and land more fish when is switched, because like you said when your cranking the road just loads up and your hooked up. When I cranked with regular rods I felt the fish hit alot and would actually pull the bait away from the fish I think. I'm new to deep deep cranking and I'm thinking about using your heavy rod to throw 6xd and 8 xd. Is that the rod you use for those size lures? Thanks David btw love the rods!

I have found that i like to put my pinky forward of the trigger when working jerkbaits. It brings the grip closer to the balance point of the rod. After long days of jerkbaiting i have less fatigue and overall have a better range of mobility. I wear xl gloves if that helps. Give it a try sometime. I bet you will like it.

Hank parker was always way up the reel thought it felt a little weird to me but liked that better than way back on the handle like BamaBass (Works for him he catches GIANTS) Like holding a golf club their is a right way or two and then one that works for you. Try them all.

Good info brother! My wife had always held her reels with her finger touching the line - until a 12lb stripper hit her bait and screamed the line out and it cut her finger ! Now she doesn't put her finger up against the line anymore! 🚑 p.s. I tried really hard not to laugh - you had to be there!

    Here's a Question..
Why do people cast Right Handed & then change hands and reel Right Handed ?🤷‍♂️

    • @gregc2621
      @gregc2621 3 года назад +1

Back when people flipped a lot more. Actual flipping. If you were right handed, the line would catch the reel handle.

      Just my .02 cents:
I used to use all right hand retrieve baitcaster for many years. It's how I was taught and what was always preached so to speak. The more extensive reason that it was explained to me, is a baitcaster is like a winch, and most manual winches were right handed by design for the majority of people's dominated hands. How true that is, I don't know, but worth considering.
As I got older, I have since converted all my rods to left hand retrieve. I often asked myself the same question you asked. Also, I found it to be more natural, more comfortable and made more sense to me and my style of fishing. I have not seen a difference in my hook up ratio, and actually give me more confidence, as I feel I manipulate my presentation better. But this is just a personal thing.
The bottom line is do what works for you and your style of fishing. That might be as simple as using a left handed retrieve.***
*** My fishing partner always gives me grief and jokes with me about my reel choice, however I always point out I find the same LH reels cheaper than his RT hand ones throughout the year. So expect that from the vast majority of RH reel users. LOL.

I for one can't understand why so many fishermen are so out of sync with their bodies!!! So many can't cast a casting reel with their left hand!!!
Guy's, it's as easy with one hand as it is with the other!!! Casting with either hand makes a long day of fishing sooooo much easier on your body. Stop what your doing and learn to make your casts with your left hand when you need to and you will be so much more HAPPY!!!

STOP TELLING ALL MY SECRETS! Just kidding by the way. I have done all of these things. I really like the finger on the line which helps me feel the bite a lot better.
