    I love Solar Opposites. They are a weird little family that despite all the shenanigans, destruction and disagreements they love each other and want to stay a family. I know Korvo (blue alien) gets mistaken for being like Rick but they couldn’t be more different. Korvo does science bc he thinks it’s neat, loves his family, and shows his emotions easily. He does things for his family, they are a big part of him he always runs to. S3 is my favorite season I can’t wait to see more. It’s a very them against the weirdness of Earth but also wanting to fit in because they like it there.

I loves seeing them slowly figure out how to get along and function together as a family properly throughout the series with Yumyulack, Jesse and the pupa. The only thing I got from this show is that the creators seemed to have something against birds. Birds are getting brutally murdered all the time on- and off-screen for some reason, or are portrait in a very negative way. I even noticed that in the teaser trailer, in all important scenes a bird got killed in a very gruesome way. I'm probably missing some behind-the-scene references.

    Honestly if I had to choose between the two shows I would pick Solar Opposites. The B plot is better but also the dynamic of the family is just more entertaining than the dynamic between Rick and Morty. We've had five(?) years now of Rick's dismissive holier than thou personality and it's gotten just boring now. Korvo has the same voice and is the science Guy of the group but he actually cares, and there are episodes where he actually grows that you wouldn't get in Rick and Morty.

    Solar opposites is just overall more solid and has a focus. Rick and morty just has high highs and low lows so when they make a bad episode, it is beyond bad; and when they create something good it basically is a revolutionary masterpiece.

      I think many feel like the lows of Rick and Morty's are the absolute lowest of lows but I do want to give them credit in that their lows are perceived so harshly because of how high their highs are. And because I myself can still find much to enjoy in the worse Rick and Morty episodes.
      With Sola Opposites, you never really feel likeany sort of ambition is at play, it's all very small but very intimate, so caring about everyone is often easier. That and R&M is sort of a "learn that everything sucks" while SO is much more of a "learn that some things don't suck. In fact, a lot of things don't suck." Kinda makes sense why people become more unhappy with the former, and said people includes the creators.
      But I still love both shows. They're subtle at first but their distinct qualities do cometo light the more you watch them as their own works instead of as a comparison to one another. Season 3 of SO was the one where people realized that even the aliens can be as interesting as S1-S2 of The Wall. Both shows are 'learning' new things to explore and cover still.

    I love the show and having just finished the S3 finale yesterday I don't think the show is a clone of Rick and Morty at all. Due to Justin Roiland being one of the creators and the animation style being the Roiland style too in addition to the sci fi stuff it does come across as that at first glance but it didn't take long before it proved to be it's own thing. There is no cynical immortal Rick with all the answers, it has the Wall side plot (which could have easily just been it's own show god damn), it's more episodic with the only serialization being the Pupa's development, the character dynamics are completely and the setting is always grounded to Earth.

    • @AestheticGamer
      @AestheticGamer Год назад +5

      I mostly agree, but I wouldn't say the Pupa's growth is the "only" serialization, especially in Season 3 (light spoilers, but there's three episodes which start where the last ended back-to-back for example), there is some character growth, changes to the status quote, references to past episodes, plus the meta element for the aliens sometimes points out the weird nature of it (like Terry asking Korvo why he retained his character development from the last episode, aren't they supposed to be more episodic and reset or something?). I get the feeling the creators just have a blast experimenting and changing their formula as they go.

    As someone who literally grew up with everything Star Trek (yes everything, movies, series i've seen it all twice when I was 16) I wanted to put my quick opinion about Lower Decks here. It's absolutely amazing, in the first season it did feel like a Rick and Morty clone, they imitated the kind of humor and stuff. But at the end they found their own spin and it's just too good. There's so many weird shit and lore from the old stuff that they build on and it all works perfectly together. I will even dare say it feels more like the original star trek than the newer series Discovery and Picard. A bigger storyline has formed in between the stand alone episodes (like the older series) and it's seriously getting so interesting.

      To be fair, TNG started out trying to be too much like TOS. It makes sense for a new series targeted to a specific audience to first emulate what said audience is familiar with before finding its own style. I never got into Rick and Morty, it just never really caught my interest, but Lower Decks sucked me in because of my love for Star Trek.
      I might have to find a way to convince my family to watch it. We're currently re-watching TOS together (we've already watched TNG, DS9 and VOY. We skipped ENT because it just didn't click with us) and are in the final season. We might start watching the movies, we'll probably skip the reboot stuff, and then I might convince them to watch Lower Decks together.

Like the points about the humor/delivery and all the sci-fi stuff. I like that Solar Opposites is a little more episodic and one thing I really enjoy is that they're not afraid to put a lot of focus on secondary characters. There's the perfect example of "The Wall" B-Plot, but also they had an episode where they launched a neighbor into space, then we get to see more what happens next. I feel with Rick and Morty, I feel like we just see how the secondary characters interact with the main ones, but in Solar Opposites, we have episodes where we want to see more of these secondary characters and how they develop and stories play out.

But I was glad to see when joining the crew and reviewing season 3 that the show started opening up more with its characters. Maybe it was a case of establishing the first season with Paramount in a way they wanted, finding footing in the second season, and then going more their own way third and onward. Basically all these shows took "inspiration" from their predecessors, but have gone on to be their own respective works. It’s like
      Adult animation is mostly a sitcom.
      This burns me because we live on Earth.
      The most basic setting in anyone’s life is a family unit, whether they’re a child or a parent.
      Obviously a sitcom will involve a family so being like “oh all these animated sitcoms are the same” like no dip - ALL sitcoms are basically the same in that regard whether they’re animated or not.
      I hate how we’ve fallen into this trap of to be taken seriously as a show for adults a cartoon has to have graphic nudity or violence or sex jokes.
      If the show doesn’t have any of that vulgarity it has to have its concepts watered down to be for babies because kids might watch it.
      Eff them kids, man.
      We’re the adults.
      It isn’t our job to make everything safe and childproofed, but we should still be able to enjoy intelligent entertainment without being assaulted by sex and gore.

    • @MoCa1979Jr
      @MoCa1979Jr 9 месяцев назад

      @@SupHapCak Not really. Seinfeld, Living Single, Martin, Friends, big Bang Theory, etc. aren't "families", they're "friend groups".
      But I get what you meant...kind of. 😂
      I agree about (in the West) creators include all this "adult humor", violence, and/or nudity in animation, so that it won't be "geared towards children" (who still watch it anyways because their parents think it's "just a cartoon" or don't really care what their kids watch).
      I also agree that we as adults should have "regular" animated shows that aren't overly "adult-themed". That's why I prefer anime, because there's different genres for different age-groups/target demographics.
      Hopefully the West will eventually catch up & realize that animation "just isn't for kids". Nor does it have to overtly "crude & crass" to keep the kids away.

I love the kids and the pupa too. The family dynamic works so well and each character provides something to the overall plot. The wall makes for a good break for some drama too, but I love the whole series. It's all of the things I loved about Rick and Morty without all of the exhausting emotional turmoil of Rick and Morty. In the later half of the fifth season they seem to be trying to steer the show back towards its earlier seasons' roots. I like that the writers are acknowledging and trying to fix some of the problems, but they've had trouble with sticking the payoff lately, so I remain cautiously skeptical; only time will tell.
