  • FINALLY.... after MANY comments and messages I'm finally making the tutorial video on how to play Walk Of Life by Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits. In this video, I go over how to use Knopfler's "claw-hammer" technique, as well as the actual playing of the song on the fret board... with very close up detailed video on both hands.
***This is my first tutorial video and obviously i haven't mastered the art of informative video... but I'm working on it! If any of you have suggestions or need any more help feel free to leave a comment or message me here on RUclips and I will be sure to get back to you!!
p.s i know the video quality sucks....but for some reason i had to lower the quality in order to make the video size small enough to upload. =\

You gave me the right push forward, thanx so much, you’re one of the few who while playing the song stops at the different parts and shows clearly and seperately the right and left hand techniques. Keep on going!

Yes. you have a gift for teaching. Just part way through watching I thought to myself “ I have to try this”. You break it down into understandable chunks. Love MK stuff but always found it difficult to see what the right hand was doing. Your nice camera angles and explanations really help. Keep up the good work and more MK please!

I used to play this back in the day when it came out and at the time we were doing 4 to 5 new songs every week and so I blindly played it Beach boyish as you described...I knew knoepfler used some finger technique to achieve that unique sound and so your tutorial helped me immensley...thank you

Mr Knopfler would embrace anyone trying to learn his songs no matter what level they are at. he is an idol of mine but when you break some of his stuff down, theoretically, sometimes it can be simple, Take "Lady Writer" for example, A, B, C#m, solo in C#m pentatonic, Probably took him no time to write but sounds great.- coz of his chicken picking tech - nice job Tyler.

I just got an email about this update! I guess that means I am one of those subscribers =D
Well, the thing is, I don't have my guitar right now (I'm travelling) but I believe that was clear enough!
I will try that as soon as I go back home.
In my opinion one of the good thing is that you don't repeat yourself many times, which is good because if someone needs repetition they can always go back in the video but if one doesn't need the repetition the video gets boring. So yours is great! Tks

  • @Zulonix

Very good for a fist try.
    Tips for a great tutorial.
    1) Start by playing the piece (no talking).
    2) Then go into the details.
MyTwangyGuitar (youtube) has mastered the art of tutorials. He doesn't even say a word. That's a bit too impersonal. A few words and a bit of face is good. :)

@ogettings very close! you're forgetting one thing tho...It would go: Top (Thumb), Up (Pointer and MIddle), Down (Pointer and MIddle), Up (Pointer and MIddle) THEN Bottom (thumb), Up (Pointer and MIddle), Down (Pointer and MIddle), Up (Pointer and MIddle). Remember that 3rd pointer and middle part. thats all that was missing :)
