I'm jealous.. I really have to walk around alone at night during a snow storm while listening to this.. Too bad it never snows here and going out at night is an invitation to get stabbed or mugged..
The genius of Burzum is that songs of such deep ambience are flanked by some of the coldest black metal ever made, it’s almost baffling that such a unique musical talent could exist.. much less the murder and arsons.. it’s just fascinating. Quite possibly the most (controversial) and interesting musician of the 20th century
@Captain Bruh Even if you think Varg is 'evil' you can't pretend like the guy he killed was any better. Stop pretending to give a shit. Besides, Varg says he only stabbed him a few times (after being threatened with death) and that most of the cuts on his body were from broken glass. He also denies burning anything and none of that was ever proved. Did you complain when BLM / Antifa people burned buildings? I bet not. Ethnic nationalism is apparently only 'bad' when white people talk about it, but everyone else somehow gets a pass and a pat on the back. Would you deny Jews their ethnoreligious nationalism? Do you complain that China's gov't is 100% chinese, or that Ethiopia's gov't is 100% ethiopian? Stop feigning offense or at least stop having double standards.
Oh man those synths bring so much memories from my youth. First time I heard this song was yesterday but those synths, god I love them and that sound. This song is a masterpiece, it's simple yet incredibly beautiful.
That picture reminds me of where I live, that house looks like just mine, that was built in Khrushchev era in late 50s, they are called "Khruschevka" - Khrushchevs houses. When snow falls, my neighborhood looks just like that.

This was awesome. I never heard this stuff before. This is like the cracking of ice on a cold winter's night when you are far away from your loved ones.
I didn't realize until now a part of why this sont is so beautiful. A lot of people find it funny how a few of Burzum's best ambient tracks come from the end of raw, grimy, nightmarish black metal. However, it's upon hearing this after the madness that was Hvis Lyset Tar Oss that you need soemthing. After the panic induced nightmare, the screaming, the disorienting distortion guitars, and the drums that feel other worldly, this hits you like a dump truck. And while this likely isn't what Count Grishnackh had in mind, it reaffirms something: Everything is going to be okay. Amidst all the rapid-fire anxiety, sometimes we need to slow down to appreciate beauty. We need to slow down to realize that there's a light to the end of the tunnels that are our sorrows, our fears. This healing factor is so interesting to me because of the man Count Grishnackh truly was. It's surreal how some absolutely vile people, such as Varg Vikernes (arsonist, murderer, wannabe terrorist, and neo-Nazi) can create something so breathtakingly stunning and besutiful.
I took a walk into the forest last week and found a clearing. I thought of this song as the full moon, clear starry skies and gentle breeze made for a peaceful and intoxicating ambient atmosphere.
These ambient black metal images are great. These music takes you to that location with self reflection and introspection. Theres really no other black metal band that does this like burzum.
Not to describe in words! I always loved the music of Varg Vikernes not only the typical Black metal songs but also these ambient tracks. This picture fits pefect to the track. When i first heard this i had a picture in my mind of a person that ist walking through an ugly town full of snow or through a forest full of snow. Thanks for sharing!!!

@Martin S You don't get it It is true that people make up their own units to characterize natural phenomenons, what you don't understand is that the importance does not stand in the name or the number, which is all man made, but in the effect of what these names and numbers characterize. Man just used his own made units to characterize anything you can imagine or that can be, you can call it whatever, what is important is what happens in there. Leaving aside all these, maybe "God" itself measures in Hz and people just stumbled on it, you cannot know what are the fundamental units to measure, no one has ever given you that, people had to make them up in order to characterize nature. Hope this helps, have a nice day :)

I don't understand how Varg's prison albums were so terrible when he had made superb ambient/dungeon synth like this and "Rungdang." His pre-prison material is so melancholic and lush but then he releases "Dauði Baldrs" and it sounds like a compilation of B-sides from the Runescape soundtrack.
the synth he had at his disposal from 91-93 was a proper polyphonic synth owned by Pytten @ the Greighallen studio. do you think they give him the equivalent when he was in prison? think about it. he had a shitty late 90's computer with basic midi capabilities.
