I gotta give props to the two big Mothra reveals in King of the Monsters. Firstly, her hatching beneath the waterfall just feels all kinds of epic. And at that point in the film, a bioluminescent beacon of hope and benevolence was perfectly placed. My top 1 is either the one with Ghidorah on the arctic or the one when Ghidorah bites the power grid and "explodes" in lightning. Very * ahem * breathtaking when I saw it on the theatre.
My ranking ( 1 is my favourite) 3.burning godzilla ( 2019 ) 2.kiss of death and tail swipe of death (2014) 1. Godzilla blows a hole through the planet (2021)
My personal greatest moment is the moment when Godzilla arrived in Antarctica to fight Ghidorah. That moment captures their rivalry so well. Ghidorah sounds a bit intimidated, Godzilla's look of disgust at Ghidorah. Of course, with AWESOME McCrery's score. Oh yes, Godzilla's arrival in Boston is AMAZING as well. It's just so great seeing our favorite franchise full of so many memorable moment. Wonderful indeed.
Hands down my favorite Monsterverse moment was when Godzilla first used his atomic breath in Godzilla 2014. It completely floored me in theaters, I wish I could experience it for the first time again.
The Monsterverse is so full of absolutely breathtaking, incredible moments! My all time favorite scene is undeniably the moment Serizawa sacrifices himself. You can really feel te respect for the characters of both Serizawa and Godzilla, and the music is simply beautiful! I really hope they'll continue the Monsterverse because I feel like a lot can still be done with it! things like, #BringBackRodan
I think it's also tied with Ghidorah's Fenway entrance. The buildup with the wind and the hurricane is fantastic, the music sounds dark and evil, the panning shot over this body when he lands, and the little nod to the Jurassic Park T Rex paddock scene when you see the close up of his eye peeking through the window before blowing an attack was nicely done.
Some of my favorites is When mothra came out of the waterfall....that scene is pure magic , when godzilla first put his foot down in the airport give me goosebumps all over and the last was when godzilla and Kong square using their dominance stands it's showing that shits about to go down P.S almost forgot about when godzilla and Kong roaring at each other.......just want to frame it on my wall

Don't worry about Toho monsters going lol, the last bit of the GvK Art book seems to suggest that Godzilla's side of the Monsterverse now will be focusing on a story involving space.
After looking at that cave painting of the kongs teaming with the gojiras fighting spacegodzilla, I definitely think he's the ultimate last villain of the MV.

The 2014 movie had a lot of good moments I thought at the time made up for the Godzilla 1998 film. Kong would make a excellent guest fighter Mortal Kombat.
im honestly incredibly glad that michael dougherty got to handle ghidorah. he seemed like a geuine fan, he posted so much good stuff on twitter leading up to the film :)
The Rodan sequence in KOTM is tops for me but I also love the defeated Kong's defiant roar in GvK's final battle between its two titanic stars. Kong is down and dying, but he roars right in Godzilla's face. I could hear Chris Evans' Captain America saying "I can do this all day" in my head.
When I saw the 2014 atomic breath for the first time I freaked out. Because after the 98 Godzilla film I didn't expect an American Godzilla film to get it right
It's (KoTM) box office was lackluster but to call it 'abysmal' is a bit of rank hyperbole, that I frankly found beneath your usual keen insight and exegete analysis.
Nice vid man! I remember the 2014 Godzilla in IMAX on Day 1. The crowd was as silent as the people onscreen in the airport, then that roar, and people were cheering!

I just realised that all these film have a vibe to em like: Godzilla (2014): Dark and Night Vibes Skull island: *Samuel L Jackson* King of the Monsters: Legendary, Gigantic and Nostalgic Vibes Godzilla vs Kong: High futuristic Tek Vibes
Fun fact: the director for KSI actually admitted that he put many anime elements and references in the movie, whether it was the fights or some of the creature designs like the sker buffalo which was inspired by a bull creature from The Princess of Monokoke.
Absolutely amazing list dude! The MonsterVerse has definitely become my favorite cinematic universe. I hope that it continues but if not it was an amazing run while it lasted!
3.Godzilla being revived by a nuke and showing his anger at the humans. 2.Godzilla roaring at the MUTOS really loud. 1.Godzilla facing off against Ghidorah in KOTM for the first time.

The Hawaii scene is number 1. As it should be. My god, the scale of the whole set piece. The airport is still my favorite bit in the entire series for not only the first full reveal of Legendary's Godzilla, but probably the best lol moment in the movie too. Helicopter: *explodes * People: "AAAHHHH!!!" Plane: *explodes * People: "AAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!" Other plane: * also explodes * People: "AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!" Foot: *THUMP * People: *stunned silence * Gets me every time xD
While I agree with the atomic breath being a great moment in the first movie, the music really undercuts it. Its a heroic brass theme that makes it feel more like a superhero moment rather than a two forces of nature colliding (like the music in KOTM). It would be like if the first reveal of Godzilla in this movie with his roar had a soundtrack blaring behind it. Sometimes music isn't necessary to sell a scene.
Great list. Each film, for their individual flaws and inconsistency between them, all had great moments that were incredible for both casual moviegoers and kaiju fans. The Hawaii scene was just perfect, and certainly within the top spots of the entire Godzilla franchise as a whole. Everything, from the score to the cinematography to the editing, was flawless. I'd even argue the abrupt cutaway from fight was great. That whole sequence was about Godzilla's reveal, not just in the world of movie but also hailing his first official on-screen appearance in 10 years. It all culminates in the absolutely awe-inspiring roar. If it went on, I think it would've robbed the entire scene of that impact. The movie floors you with the climax of that epic roar. If it went on it would've been cheapened by a fight. As said, that entire scene was about the reveal of Godzilla; if the scene continued with Godzilla vs. MUTO, then people would've most likely clung onto the monster brawl rather than the reverence towards the King of the Monsters. It's a great time to be a kaiju fan now. Love this channel. Always look forward to your next videos.
You discribed it perfectly, as much as it would have been great to see the monsters more, Godzilla's reveal is the pay-off of this scene it didn't need a fight. It's probably godzilla's greatest entrance and one of the best moment in the franchise.
My favorite scenes from each movie are: 1. The entirety of the Honolulu sequence ending with his reveal 2. Kong on fire during the Napalm Attack. Sure, my memory might be tainted by the poster images from that scene but I love Sam staring death in the eye. 3. (My personal favorite film) The Battle in Boston, just everything about it is amazing (the fighting/music, I mean). Rodan's chase ties with Mothra's Awakening. 4. Was either the GvK beat down #2 or the descent into the Hollow Earth. I can go into detail on my favorite individual SHOTS from each one but this is already getting very rambly
Great video and list! I most favorite scene is in kotm when Godzilla meets Ghidorah in Boston as Gojis iconic theme plays in the background. Totally epic!
My favorite moment has got to be the reveal of Mothra's imago form from under the waterfall. Not only is it another beautiful demonstration of why I love KOTM more than pretty much any kaiju film since 1964 with its embrace of the religiosity given to the monsters making them feel more than just monsters, but the updated cover of Mothra's theme that has followed her from the 60's and through the Rebirth trilogy (which I still have a big soft spot for) is just too beautiful.

"Despite being set at night." Getting a little tired of hearing the dark being constantly criticized in these movies. The monsters are natural disasters. They are huge. They throw up dirt and dust, one carries a hurricane on its back. The monsters are scarier in the dark. They feel more nebulous and add to their godlike qualities. Their very existence is capable of darkening the brightest sky. The visuals of the creatures standing in the distance shrouded in an apocalyptic darkness is terrifying, and I am so tired of people saying it's a bad thing. What is bad about shooting bioluminescent creatures in the dark? What's wrong with presenting creatures being used as an allegory for the destruction nature brings in the darkness, which is so frequently brought with nature's fury? I don't give a damn if I can't see every scale on Godzilla's body. Scare me. Intimidate me. Show me the fear these creatures evoke as avatars of destruction.
Few months late but I just recently rewatched KOTM and by god. The night time makes Ghidorah so FUCKING TERRIFYING. Like damn when he is chasing Emma with the Orca and does that Low Fly by over the remaining buildings and slithers his heads through the streets all with glowing eyes in the dark, burning and electrified city. Absolutely brilliant and much preferred to have near anything with Ghidorah be in the dark when he is PISSED. That rewatch made me love the dark scenes in all the movies actually
I would say kotm at least had a plot and characters that could've potentially been interesting. Gvk doesn't have as much of a plot or interesting characters.
I like GvK more then Kotm but you know what I respect it. For me I like Gvk for the monsters and the plot (yes I like the plot). But it has the most frustrating humans ever (The little girl is fine tho) Like the “Kong bows to no one” and the Team Godzilla side of the story is so cringe. Kotm has at least good characters that *HAVE EMOTIONS.* Except for that guy who cracks jokes in every serious scene f*** him.
@@SaurianStudios1207 I heavily disagree. The humans in KOTM are so cookie cutter and cringey, I really don't see any potential in them other than Mark and the mothra twins(maybe the villian, idk.) Meanwhile GvK had some pretty good and interesting characters. For example, Jia. Jia is an amazing example of how you can make a good human character make way for Monsters and monster action. Not to mention she actually has character traits that make her special, other than being a smol child and deaf. Another good character is Bernie. He honestly had some pretty good bangers of jokes, much better that fat white dude in Kotm. Plus, he seems to have a good coralation between Apex and Godzilla. Ren and Walter were also pretty good and Walter seemed like a good charismatic villain while Ren is his smarter henchman. And while Ilene is a little bland, I still see potential with her and kong, especially since she's known as the "Kong Whisperer."
@@notknalp6121 I agree but I feel like Bernie and Ilene are a little better than you make it seem. Yeah not all the jokes he delivered were funny or amazing but some unintentional sequences with him were kinda funny. And while the "kong bows to no one" line is a little wonky, with how its delivered, I still think she makes for a good balance between Jia and Kong, kinda like a wholesome but interesting mother figure.
The entire Rodan sequence in Kotm is, in my opinion, a masterpiece in kaiju films. It is virtually perfect, and the only thing that I don't like about it is that it only makes me want a solo Rodan film even more. Godzillas's rebirth is a close second, though.
16:39 *_"…and against arguably Godzilla's most powerful foe…"_* I'd say second most powerful, right after Ghidorah. What better way to introduce Godzilla's second greatest archrival than having being controlled by his first one? Doesn't get better than that.
@Doctor Alan Could've, would've, should've. Still doesn't negate that Ghidorah was well without a doubt Godzilla's first most powerful archrival, even more so than ever in the MonsterVerse with the ability to create storms and bend the stratosphere wherever he goes, an alpha call so powerful he awakens all Titans at once, and incredible raw strength that outmaches Godzilla's and nearly killed him. Besides, Godzilla having human assistance to gain the upper hand isn't anything new and you know it.
One of my favorites personally will always be the Antarctica fight in Godzilla: KOTM. It was lead up nicely like many of the other fights in the series, and seeing Godzilla break through the ice with that fantastic music playing in the background was great! It’s not the best scene in the Monsterverse but it is one of my favorite scenes and one of my favorite fights. It’s just these two, with no doors, windows, ice cubes or floor. Just them. It’s great. Also would you consider doing top 10s like this for the other Godzilla eras? I’d love to see them, especially with how varied the Millennium era is with scenes.
I hate when people say the former defeated the latter. Now i gotta rewind and check which order they were mentioned. Could justa used their names like all through the rest of the video, but no we had to try to be cute. Anyway, great video as always i really enjoyed your perspective, keep up the good work! ❤
Well I expected the Hawaii reveal to be here, but I didn't expect my personal favorite moment to be at the #1. An absolutely stunning scene, and it made the wait worth it.
My own top 5 would be: 5: Ghidorah's awakening 4: Godzilla's rebirth 3: Kong fighting the big one 2: Ghidorah dropping Godzilla from the sky 1: Mecha Godzilla's introduction
Great list! Saw KOTM in glorious IMAX, so the ending of him claiming his title is probably tops for me. Also, quick question: Have you ever thought about maybe reviewing the Jurassic Park/World movies at some point? I think you can make enough of a stretch to argue that they count as giant monster movies, right? Anyways, really loving this channel. Keep up the great work!
The Hawaii sequence is a masterclass of buildup that gets immediately ruined by that cut. I can't understand how anyone thought that was a good idea (along with killing off Cranston so early). G14 is frustrating because it does so much right but those boneheaded attempts at restraint completely undermine it.

Long live the kings of cinema
My top 1 is either the one with Ghidorah on the arctic or the one when Ghidorah bites the power grid and "explodes" in lightning. Very * ahem * breathtaking when I saw it on the theatre.
That chain lightning thing was amazing
my top 3 ranking:
1. godzilla (2014)- kiss of death.
2. godzilla vs kong- godzilla and kong vs mechagodzilla.
3. godzilla kotm- burning godzilla.
Kiss of death sounds so gay 😂
@@seearyari no, it sounds really really cool! and godzilla (a male) did it on femuto (a female), so not gay at all!
My ranking ( 1 is my favourite)
3.burning godzilla ( 2019 )
2.kiss of death and tail swipe of death (2014)
1. Godzilla blows a hole through the planet (2021)
@@Bumbaclaat360 wow, i forgot about that.

One of the best theatre moments I have ever had. Honestly, that moment will live with me for the rest of my life.
My favorite part of the first round in GvK was when Kong yeeted a fighter jet at Godzilla
For me, King Ghidorah awakening in Antarctica is tied Godzilla's introduction in Honolulu for greatest moment.
Same. I dont rewatch many movies, but those two are scenes that I can't get enough of
I think it's also tied with Ghidorah's Fenway entrance. The buildup with the wind and the hurricane is fantastic, the music sounds dark and evil, the panning shot over this body when he lands, and the little nod to the Jurassic Park T Rex paddock scene when you see the close up of his eye peeking through the window before blowing an attack was nicely done.
Same here. We first see Ghidorah's tail and his head combine that with the background music. It was a awesome moment.
Some of my favorites is When mothra came out of the waterfall....that scene is pure magic , when godzilla first put his foot down in the airport give me goosebumps all over and the last was when godzilla and Kong square using their dominance stands it's showing that shits about to go down
P.S almost forgot about when godzilla and Kong roaring at each other.......just want to frame it on my wall
August 2023: Missing the best Godzilla channel. Maybe you are somewhere but without any other social vices, I wouldn't know. Hope all is well. Still love the content here.
@@mr.milkman3893 where did yall find it at?
@@mandalorianhunter1 there have been multiple videos discussing the photo on here as well as in the art book itself. I recommend checking out high flyers tag team and Kaiju network to see as they both have videos that specifically cover the photo

My favorite MonsterVerse moment is basically every scene with Kong and Jia. 😊
Personally, my favorite Monsterverse moment was Ghidorah's alpha cry.
I try to listen to it every now and then.
His call to action is beautiful
That shot of him on top of the erupting volcano right after growing back his friggin head?
Yea, thats some epic stuff right there.
Still gives me chills. Sound design in KOTM was 👌🔥
And the fact there was a cross in the foreground adds to the Devil With Three Heads title.
Greatest heavy metal album cover ever.
4:40 They lure Rodan away from the village by flying directly over the village, killing thousands of people. Brilliant!
to be fair, who would've known just by him flying could create destructions.

One more fantastic video Up From The Depths. Long live the Monsterverse.
Airplanes: Exist
Kong: *Vietnam Flashback*
The Rodan sequence in KOTM is tops for me but I also love the defeated Kong's defiant roar in GvK's final battle between its two titanic stars. Kong is down and dying, but he roars right in Godzilla's face.
I could hear Chris Evans' Captain America saying "I can do this all day" in my head.
I hope that you and yours are okay.
Thanks for all of the great videos.
My favorite part was when Godzilla got a cameo in the 2014 movie.
He actually had more screen time then his original movie.
that was a violation
@@Protronica He actually had more screen time then most of his other appearances.

Definitely agree with the number 1 spot. The build up to Godzilla is well worth the wait and I think it’s executed beautifully.
When will Up From the Depths return to bless us with commentary on the newly announced Godzilla Minus One and GxK: The New Empire?
Two years. We miss you! I’m watching Gamera Guardian of the Universe right now!
UFTD just posted on Twitter in late October, he is likely just waiting for Minus One to come out in the US before returning.
Hello up from the depths. Hope you are well. Been a long time since you have uploaded. Miss seeing new content. Still so many old monster movies and new kaiju stuff coming out. Hope you return soon. Kinda unfortunate you been gone for so long. Thanks for all the amazing content. I still listen to all your videos while i am at work to help me get through the day.
PLEASE MAKE MORE VIDEOS! Your channel was SO good. Loads of content ideas for you since you last posted a video. WE MISS YOU! 😞
That tracking shot in the airport scene with the trail of explosions ending in Godzilla's heavy STOMP, is amazing.
what ever happened to the owner of this and his other channel? such great content, but went silent 2 years ago.
I just realised that all these film have a vibe to em like:
Godzilla (2014): Dark and Night Vibes
Skull island: *Samuel L Jackson*
King of the Monsters: Legendary, Gigantic and Nostalgic Vibes
Godzilla vs Kong: High futuristic Tek Vibes
Exactly I love the variety each film has
I would've put apocalypse now meets Jurassic park or king kong for kong skull island
Fun fact: the director for KSI actually admitted that he put many anime elements and references in the movie, whether it was the fights or some of the creature designs like the sker buffalo which was inspired by a bull creature from The Princess of Monokoke.
@@mr.milkman3893 well Jordan vogt roberts is a big anime fan so I'm glad he out so many anime references in ksi even if many fans didn't notice them
Absolutely amazing list dude! The MonsterVerse has definitely become my favorite cinematic universe.
I hope that it continues but if not it was an amazing run while it lasted!
Where are you?
3.Godzilla being revived by a nuke and showing his anger at the humans.
2.Godzilla roaring at the MUTOS really loud.
1.Godzilla facing off against Ghidorah in KOTM for the first time.
Godzilla Minus One will be coming out soon and I need to hear some thoughts about this.
My Top 5 list:
5. Boston Battle (Godzilla King of The Monsters 2019).
4. Battle in San Fransisco (Godzilla 2014).
3. Kiss of Death (Godzilla 2014).
2. Godzilla and Kong vs MechaGodzilla (Godzilla vs Kong).

The Hawaii scene is number 1. As it should be. My god, the scale of the whole set piece.
The airport is still my favorite bit in the entire series for not only the first full reveal of Legendary's Godzilla, but probably the best lol moment in the movie too.
Helicopter: *explodes *
People: "AAAHHHH!!!"
Plane: *explodes *
People: "AAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!"
Other plane: * also explodes *
People: "AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Foot: *THUMP *
People: *stunned silence *

@@Megaspinosaurusrex I agree and I appreciate the scene more after watching it again back in march.
My favorite scenes from each movie are:
1. The entirety of the Honolulu sequence ending with his reveal
#9 Rodan chase was so awesome!!! Glad you included the scene!
Miss your content man!
R.I.P. Up from The Depths - 2018 - 2021, You’ll Be Missed!

Amazing video. I didn't know the Monsterverse movies were so cool.
@@comradecody5872 Hell to the yes my man.
I liked Kotm more than GvK to be honest 😦
And let's see how many people dislike this opinion
And while the "kong bows to no one" line is a little wonky, with how its delivered, I still think she makes for a good balance between Jia and Kong, kinda like a wholesome but interesting mother figure.
another great vid from you Godzilla 2014 is my fav monsterverse movie and my 3rd fav Godzilla movie
where did you go...
I miss your videos, please do return!
I think Godzilla’s nuclear “Mothra” pulse while in his Burning form was easily the best best moment in the Monsterverse for me.
“Long live the king.”
Hope you enjoyed Minus One. Miss you!
Huh oh, I just realized he hasn’t posted in a year, I hope the channel is not dead 😢
The entire Rodan sequence in Kotm is, in my opinion, a masterpiece in kaiju films. It is virtually perfect, and the only thing that I don't like about it is that it only makes me want a solo Rodan film even more.
Godzillas's rebirth is a close second, though.
I know it's not technically a monster scene, but does anyone else think the Halo jump from Godzilla 2014 should have made the list?
It sure made for a spine-tingling, white-knuckle experience watching the teaser back in late 2013.
I guess this channel is dead. What shame really enjoyed it. Rip
My favorite moment would be either The Atomic breath scene or Hawaii Scene in 2014
Where are you 😢
16:39 *_"…and against arguably Godzilla's most powerful foe…"_* I'd say second most powerful, right after Ghidorah.
@Agent Alan "Right environment" has nothing to do with it.
@The Legendary Alan Time has no meaning to me, so I can keep replying for as long as I want and end the convo when we both decide.

My own top 5 would be:
5: Ghidorah's awakening
4: Godzilla's rebirth
3: Kong fighting the big one
2: Ghidorah dropping Godzilla from the sky
1: Mecha Godzilla's introduction
