Right now we’re experiencing history in the making, in 60 years time we’ll look back on what it was like to live around the release of the MonsterVerse, and how it affected us, and the generations that come after us will enjoy these films for as long as Godzilla or Kong remain icons.
Personally, I've always seen Kong and Godzilla as both representations of how man's ego can ruin nature, but different ends of the spectrum. Kong has always felt like if man struck at nature and destroys something beautiful that didn't deserve it. Godzilla on the other end has felt like if man strikes at nature, but if nature struck back with even more devastating results.
A very good way at looking at them two. Especially with Godzilla. Who was originally made as a physical manifestation of Japan's fear of Nuclear War given what happened to them in the final days before they surrendered to the US in WW2.
For almost 60 yrs we've waited for the two biggest monstars of cinema to clash since they first met in 1962. Now with the MonsterVerse seemlingly coming to a close, we the G fans have the luxury of getting to witness the biggest rematch and crossover of the century, along with millions of audience members and average movie goers. Regardless if the movie fails or suceeds or if it's even good or bad, let's all be thankful we got to see this rematch happen and godzilla was treated with the faithfulness of the toho character while still being a modern rendition of the character while kong was brought back bigger than ever with changes done without losing the soul of the 8th wonder of the world. In recent years, Americans have become a lot more accepting of Japanese culture. Whether it's studying it or the revent resurgence of anime popularity among the youth, Japan is still making waves in American shores. Especially Godzilla, which with pokemon, is one of the first pieces of a japanese property that american kids are exposed to. The last 2 american godzilla movies have gotten massive hype when they came out and yet Kong still beat them at the box office because he's still more recognizable and known in the West. This fight has to happen now, and it's going to be Godly.
As always, you put it into words better than most. I cannot wait for this rematch that I still can’t believe is happening. We’re so lucky! 🥲 Fantastic video sir!
Great video! I think that one detail that should be made known is the copyright trickiness behind the scenes, as the new version of Kong essentially can only exist because technically the "Kong" character is public domain, whereas "King Kong" seems to be a Universal-owned copyright.
The king of monsters vs the 8th wonder of the world. The rematch of the century is gonna go down this year and we are all alive to witness this moment.
Did you just really used the instrumental or orchestral remix of the "here we go" trailer music? You actually did, you absolute legend. I'm in love with that song.
Just saw it, and it was pretty awesome. It knew exactly what it wanted to be - a pure monster mash. No subtlety, no BS, just giant monsters slugging it out for the title. I can respect that. And damn was it fun to watch.
Of course I've known the name Godzilla my entire life, but 2014 really made me interested. I was about 10 years old at the time, and I remember watching the trailers over and over, and just wanting to see more. One day I looked up the original Godzilla films on youtube, and I just had this pure feeling of joy. "Oh my god, that's amazing! There's so many more monsters for him to fight!" Now I'm a senior in high school and about to be 18. I've seen every single Godzilla film, and it's my favorite thing in the world. I want to thank Legendary and Warner Bros. for further introducing me to the King of the Monsters. It's been an amazing 7 year journey so far, and I can't wait to see him take on the Eighth Wonder of the World in the rematch of the century!

Even more metatextually though, its fair because it puts Kong in the Underdog category, which makes the fight actually MORE fair. Plus I think it suits Kong to be the underdog, in his own movies he always loses out in the end, but I think that means his loss in this movie would be a bittersweet homage, or his win would be even greater as he did the impossible! Though I expect him to lose, likely due to him sacrificing himself to save the girl from the trailer, then someone can say the iconic line "It was beauty which killed the beast!".
@@yinnacle9885 he had an axe dipshit, plus there wouldn’t be a movie if they went with the logical outcome, Godzilla’s stronger, taller, has armoured skin, more experienced, has atomic breath and a nuclear pulse, tail, claws, he’s more aggressive, has stronger jaws, dorsal plates, he’s heavier, he’s built like a grizzly bear which is a beast. Godzillas a tank, Kongs main advantages are only intelligents, battle dexterity and agility. See what I mean by Kongs out of Godzilla’s league. It literally took 2 minutes in round three for Godzilla to beat and practically KILL kong.
Because of the trailer of Godzilla vs Kong, I end up watching all the previous Godzilla Movies, with the exception of all monsters attack and Godzilla(98), and I don't regret it. They were such incredible films, and I still think that the practical effects hold up today for the majority of the movies
Ever since I found out the alternate endings was a lie I wanted a rematch film so Godzilla could win. It pains me to say this, but how can Godzilla win when there isn't even have a Broadway musical in the franchise yet. Wait how do we not have that yet? I want it.
So worth watching this. A few years ago, while writing the Bolt Chronicles, a OC superhero series(166 chapters on DeviantArt), after seeing King Kong vs Godzilla, I decided to write a fanfic pitting Bolt against the King of The Monsters. However, I went with the second Heisei Godzilla as the 'villain', and gave him a more 'divine' origin, as this story is based in the Millenium Era. Set on another Earth, this Godzilla was altered by the atomic bombs, which were infused with a strange energy known as the Everforce(making them super deadly) when mankind split the atom, allowing him to become almost unstoppable. However, Mothra(played by the Heisei version) protected us as the Champion of Man for years as Godzilla was forced to rise when the Fire(Everforce)was ignited by the wars of man, wherein he would crush the threat from man or monster-hence its title-GVB-Children of The Fire. When she is injured after Godzilla's return, Mothra summons the Bolt, who as Malcolm Lucas, was altered by a grim 'close encounter' with a powerful gem after a attempted robbery by ruthless criminals working for Omega, stuck in a 'cold war' with the ORBIT Agency, into the LivIng Marvel of Ocean City, to challenge Godzilla, who is actually a living creature on this Earth(Beta) whose appearance was changed by TOHO in each film so no one or no nation could find him. And yes, with the help of Goggle Maps, I set the battle scenes in Japan, Osaka and Tokyo serving as the sites of utter destruction in this fanfic. And there is now a sequel, which started with a prologue in Bolt 151, and will be called 'Godzilla vs Bolt: Heroes and Monsters.' I can't wait for this film. One more thing: I really started 'Godzilla vs The Bolt-Children of The Fire' after viewing the first trailer for Godzilla: King of the Monsters.
I think Kong seemingly having no chance against Godzilla is actually what makes this movie so compelling for many people. Godzilla is so powerful, that's why he is called GODzilla, meanwhile Kong is only a king. Yet that makes him an underdog that everyone can root for, especially since more then any movie we don't know who will win, plus that is in his character. Even in the first movie, despite being a giant monster, he was an underdog by the end, and succumbed to the might of humanity. Skull Island removed a lot of stuff that was iconic to the original tale, but I'm thinking that was so they could integrate it into this movie. We already have the setup of him protecting a girl from a giant lizard, much like the dinosaur fight of the original. I think it works too that he would lose, much like how he always dies in his films. However, I hope that the movie has him die because he puts his focus on protecting that girl during his fight, then it would give new context for when someone says "it was beauty that killed the beast", it would be a great way to pay homage to his films, and solves the dilemma of who will win. These are some of my thoughts, I'm very excited!
Here's hoping Pacific Rim gets a genuine turn by the original cast again in the future. I sincerely would love a crossover, and everyone was thinking it when they saw it. The concept of Godzilla in the future, a Godzilla Beyond, or Gozilla 2099 if you will, having to tend to the Jaegers, while perhaps being key to dealing with the rift itself once and for all, would be absolutely brilliant. Make him even older, and beaten, and experienced. The jaegers, being nuclear-powered could play a huge role in tension between them as well, I mean it's just full of gold.
Awesome and fascinating video. I love how your commentary about how these two are important to this type of genre. I love these type of films and am reliving them by watching some of the Godzilla and King Kong films tonight on TCM and look forward to the new film.
This is an excellent video expose on the history and importance of the upcoming film! As a long time Godzilla fan, I forgot how the original King Kong influenced the creation of Godzilla. Of course, King Kong came before Gojira, but many people don't make the connection because Godzilla is the more interesting monster to many of them. It also doesn't help, as you stated, Godzilla's popularity eclipsed King Kong's over the years because he/it embodies a more mainstream idea of what a "monster" is supposed to be. You also touch on how Godzilla, had actual sequels vs. Kong who always kept being rebooted, and his origin story retold over and over again. This is what allowed Godzilla to remain in the public consciousness and become his own series that spans 67 years. I like when creators point out things like this that might seem obvious, but aren't talked about in the larger discourse. Keep up the great work!
Right now we’re experiencing history in the making, in 60 years time we’ll look back on what it was like to live around the release of the MonsterVerse, and how it affected us, and the generations that come after us will enjoy these films for as long as Godzilla or Kong remain icons.

Fantastic video sir!
Beautiful video man 👍
Great video! I think that one detail that should be made known is the copyright trickiness behind the scenes, as the new version of Kong essentially can only exist because technically the "Kong" character is public domain, whereas "King Kong" seems to be a Universal-owned copyright.
I'll quote the Highlander franchise, "There can be only one." I really hope this movie is worth the hype. Very excited for this one.
The king of monsters vs the 8th wonder of the world. The rematch of the century is gonna go down this year and we are all alive to witness this moment.
First the Snyder cut, then GvsK. We are eating good this month!!
Did you just really used the instrumental or orchestral remix of the "here we go" trailer music? You actually did, you absolute legend. I'm in love with that song.
It's that it's been 60 years since the original KKVG is just amazing
Just saw it, and it was pretty awesome. It knew exactly what it wanted to be - a pure monster mash. No subtlety, no BS, just giant monsters slugging it out for the title. I can respect that. And damn was it fun to watch.
Of course I've known the name Godzilla my entire life, but 2014 really made me interested.
I was about 10 years old at the time, and I remember watching the trailers over and over, and just wanting to see more. One day I looked up the original Godzilla films on youtube, and I just had this pure feeling of joy. "Oh my god, that's amazing! There's so many more monsters for him to fight!"
Now I'm a senior in high school and about to be 18.
Godzilla 2014 felt like a prototype or “test” after Kong and KOTM doubled down on the monster action and light hearted tone. GVK feels like the culmination of this universe so far and I’m excited to see what they do with the Monsterverse next
This has been my favorite video you have ever made. I have never seen another RUclipsr so perfectly describe the importance and History of these 2 monsters meeting again without the video being over 20 minutes long.
I cannot wait to show my friends this video after our Monsterverse marathon before GvK.
Thank you for making this video.

In-universe this match-up doesn’t seem particularly fair, but it makes sense metatextually
Inverse it is fair lmao
Even more metatextually though, its fair because it puts Kong in the Underdog category, which makes the fight actually MORE fair. Plus I think it suits Kong to be the underdog, in his own movies he always loses out in the end, but I think that means his loss in this movie would be a bittersweet homage, or his win would be even greater as he did the impossible! Though I expect him to lose, likely due to him sacrificing himself to save the girl from the trailer, then someone can say the iconic line "It was beauty which killed the beast!".
@@yinnacle9885 not really kongs kinda out of Godzilla’s league but money ya know.
@@MrShRk-nj2lj if he was out of his league then he wouldnt have briefly knocked him out lmao
Love the duality between the two monsters, one of empathy and one of apathy, but both can understand.
Because of the trailer of Godzilla vs Kong, I end up watching all the previous Godzilla Movies, with the exception of all monsters attack and Godzilla(98), and I don't regret it.
They were such incredible films, and I still think that the practical effects hold up today for the majority of the movies
It just came out in Australia, and I just saw the first screening. It's pretty kickass!
Definitely history in the making here two Kings clashing! I just hope the monster verse continue after this.
This is where it's all been leading to. This is the pinnacle of Monster Kaiju films. This is the make or break. Beautiful video
Thank you for making this!
I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS
Excellent video man I’m for sure going to be revisiting this time and time again
Ever since I found out the alternate endings was a lie I wanted a rematch film so Godzilla could win. It pains me to say this, but how can Godzilla win when there isn't even have a Broadway musical in the franchise yet. Wait how do we not have that yet? I want it.
A surprising amount of people don’t realize this is a reboot
@Latest Obsession so what is it
Basically a rematch
@Latest Obsession basically a rematch it's still kong and godzilla
Keep up with your content, been watching you for 2 years now and the quality is better and better
This has to be one of your best videos to date. It got me even more hyped for the historic rematch.
Fantastic video, got me more hyped for this.
This channel is so underrated !
I have watched the full video!
Very nice content! Keep up the god work 😊

Cant believe it's been over half a century since the last encounters between these two. Crazy!!!
Hands down your best video ever... Can't wait for March 31 #longlivethekingGODZILLA
Man, I love your channel. It's one of my favorites.
Been waiting my whole life for this.
Man 60 years has passed and now it’s time for the movie to enjoy it.
Problem with that is that is little to no people rooting for Kong and the ones that are salty as shit
Such a great in depth video, and smooth narration
Absolutely amazing video
For the longest time I thought Kong’s title was “The Ape Wonder of the World” til I saw the Peter Jackson remake.
🤦🏼♂️
bruh 💀
Loving the content on your channel. So excited for this movie!
Godzilla and Kong defeated the Coronavirus for theaters. A key moment for Hollywood.
Awesome Video. Love every Video from you. Best Kaiju Channel on RUclips.
Stoked! Yours will be the only channel I watch any GvK content on, pre- release.
The third best video on RUclips. 1 was why shin won in Japan 2 was spirituality of kotm. Love these videos. Thank you.
Great analysis and breakdown of why this matters! Thanks & bravo!
Ya you pretty much hit on everything here. I pray that theatres open back up in CA. To not be able to witness this in all its glory would be a shame.
Your channel keeps getting better and better dude. So excited for all of the Godzilla stuff this year and for you to talk about it.
“A fight between two of the greatest Kaiju of all time”
Gamera: “Am I a joke to you?”
your writing and points are always exceptional. Great work
Cannot wait to see the rematch between the two Titans again.
A very good video! Gives an in depth history of both characters and gives respect to both of them.
Great video as usual man.
You do great work ! Top notch.
This is the only movie I've been looking forward to. I hope its as good as the previous movies.
Nice set up! Bravo!
Great editing too. :-)
Thank you. Thank you very much for this video. 🦖
It did not disappoint 🔥
Great job my man. Amazing
Watched the original matchup when I was 5. I’m about to turn 23. It’s been a long long time but we’re almost there!
