I like the little detail they’ve added in for the name of the Engineer Xenomorph; since the engineers are a sort of representation of God, the Xenomorph that comes from them is called a Deacon, and a Deacon is a role in the Catholic Church (a role bellow priests). Really cool!
The Deacon isn’t an Xenomorph, it’s a similar but different species. The actual Xenomorphs that come from Engineers are named Jockey-Xenomorphs, and they are basically just big Xenomorphs.
@@firemaker1258I mean, technically it's not a Xenomorph, but like... come on, it's a Xenomorph. Shiny black skin, humanoid frame, a crested head, biomechanical features, bursts its way out of a host's body. The graphic novels established it even has acidic blood, for God's sake.

no, absolutely disagree. The beauty of the original Alien is that we had the unknown of the space jockey. And with Prometheus the freedom of the viewer's fantasy was taken away and we were given a complete nonsense story of creators. The space jockey could have been so much more.
Prometheus and Covenant completely ruined the mystery and intrigue of the original film and series. I never wanted to know what the space jockey was or where it came from. Not to mention the completely stupid plot twist that the Space Jockeys/Engineers created humans for no reason whatsoever. And adding to that, why the hell couldn't Scott just leave the Xenomorphs be actual aliens and not David's creations? The factor that made the original film so good is the fact that we had no idea where the Xenomorph evolved and it was just the perfect predatory organism. There was no need for them to be practically artificial creations. He also created a massive plothole in the timeline. Prometheus is set 30 years before Alien, and Covenant is set 20 years before Alien. According to Covenant, Xenomorphs never came into existence until 2104, and that wasnt even a Xenomorph, it was a Protomorph. So somehow, in the 18 years between Covenant and Alien, an Engineer got his hands on thousands of non existent Xenomorph eggs, crashed his ship on LV-426, and according to Alien, was there long enough to be fossilized (hundreds of thousands of years at the very least). The sheer amount of stupidity that the writers required to actually produce these movies still baffles me
1:25 When James said "you see yourself yelling at the characters for the stupid decisions they make" and put the bit where instead of running out of the way of the ship, they run in a straight line... I felt it in my heart
@@kingayy9267 which I don't get, he uses behind the scenes and commentaries for videos all the time and ridley straight up says 2 million "engineers" died when David unleashes the goo in covenant so it wouldn't be hard to count at all
@@mullaoslo what about when he does the pie chart? how would he do a visual representation, one engineer and the saying 2 million more might work but i doubt it
I can get that being the case at first, but in the amount of time they were running in that scene, they probably should’ve had enough time to think of moving out of the way
This movie is kind of incredible in that nearly a decade later I can still find new things that don’t make sense about it. I didn’t even notice how david can magically operate every piece of alien tech...
@@firemaker1258 yeah it was because of other circumstances hat it transformed like that. The comic is pretty cool but I wish they had done something else with the Deacon.
“The alien movies are phallic” You have no idea. H.R. Giger... creator of the xenomorph, has a shit load of super sexual extraterrestrial artwork. Hell, the original movie’s egg ship has coochie shaped doorways.
Slight error with the description, its the same description of The First Purge, please like so James can see! Edit: it's fixed now, you don't have to like anymore
The comics and films are two completely different universes that share somewhat similar things. If that was the case then Batman, Superman, The Terminator, Judge Dredd and fucking Archie would all be interconnected in the same universe as Alien vs Predator lol
I saw this movie a few months after I had a hysterectomy. Watching Shaw run around and get hit in the gut after her c-section just sort of left me curled up in a horrified little ball.
@@B1g_B0sssss Surgical removal of the uterus. I had a six-pound tumor (thankfully benign), and had an incision pretty much identical to Shaw's, right down to the staples. I was in the hospital for the next three days, doped on morphine the first day, and not allowed to even get out of bed until the day I went home. It took a full six weeks to recover. A hit to the gut like she took would have been completely incapacitating.
What i found challenging in Prometheus was to make consistent and coherent sense of it. It is stimulating to think about it all might work, and discuss interpretations with mates.
Honestly I don't dislike this concept Same for covenant Xenomorphs are great but its nice to try to expand out from the normal beasties Plus the Engineers are badass, if not also very moody and just really don't want to be bothered by creepy androids
@@isaaclindsey4185 they aren't knockoffs? I dont understand this argument. the black goo is the common denominator. the original xenomorph had to come from somewhere.. like what in this movie exactly is a knockoff xenomorph? the deacon? due to the mechanism of the black goo and the DNA of the host there are so many different combinations and outcomes of what can be born, not just xenomorphs
Plus the sexual horror is to imply the shared history behind the goo originating the Xenomorphs That said I do think these films would have been so much stronger as their own thing rather then just a prequel to Alien that doesn’t seem very interested in tying in
Badass engineers from Prometheus creating Xenos by their attempt on erasing human creation: cool as fuck! Perturbed android with god complex using an awesome protagonists eggs as an experiment to create xeno: trash as fuck! This is why I will always love Prometheus for its boldness, and hate Covenant for its cowardliness...
The biologist's death still cracks me up, because my wife is a wildlife ecologist (who got her Ph.D before she turned 28 and is a tenured biology professor at a highly reputed college as well as a highly skilled carpenter, seamstress, and programmer) and when I showed her that scene she was like "oh yeah, that's totally how I would die." 18 INT, 3 WIS. I guess that's how she ended up with me? ;)
Without knowing this was an alien prequel, my friend suggested I watch this movie, and honestly, I think this film would’ve been better if it was a standalone film

Actually, the reason why running in a straight line from a rolling object is because it’s human instinct to run in a straight line away from danger
I can get that being the case at first, but in the amount of time they were running in that scene, they probably should’ve had enough time to think of moving out of the way
20:16 I don’t know why but the phrase “completely straight line” made me start dying 😂

Alien vs Predator films are more "What if" movies, and are not canon to the main Alien universe
Hi dad
They are now, thanks to the comics
mctown972 Shut up. In my head Canon it is canon.
They actually are due to the comics
The comics and films are two completely different universes that share somewhat similar things. If that was the case then Batman, Superman, The Terminator, Judge Dredd and fucking Archie would all be interconnected in the same universe as Alien vs Predator lol

I saw this movie a few months after I had a hysterectomy. Watching Shaw run around and get hit in the gut after her c-section just sort of left me curled up in a horrified little ball.
Wut is a hysterectomy?
@@B1g_B0sssss Surgical removal of the uterus. I had a six-pound tumor (thankfully benign), and had an incision pretty much identical to Shaw's, right down to the staples. I was in the hospital for the next three days, doped on morphine the first day, and not allowed to even get out of bed until the day I went home. It took a full six weeks to recover. A hit to the gut like she took would have been completely incapacitating.
Why I love this series? probably for this, all kills and chill music in the background.

What i found challenging in Prometheus was to make consistent and coherent sense of it. It is stimulating to think about it all might work, and discuss interpretations with mates.
"But hopefully the Scar/Lex relationship is still cannon."
I wish.
The reason why the aliens feel like “b grade xenomorphs” is because the movie is a prequel for how the xenomorphs were created
Honestly I don't dislike this concept
Same for covenant
Xenomorphs are great but its nice to try to expand out from the normal beasties
Plus the Engineers are badass, if not also very moody and just really don't want to be bothered by creepy androids
Well yeah but still Ridley coulda shaken it up a bit and made them less of a knock off of xenomorphs
Plus the sexual horror is to imply the shared history behind the goo originating the Xenomorphs
That said I do think these films would have been so much stronger as their own thing rather then just a prequel to Alien that doesn’t seem very interested in tying in
Badass engineers from Prometheus creating Xenos by their attempt on erasing human creation: cool as fuck!
