    It's not selfish, it's survival of the fittest and you have to look out for you! 🙂 I'd love to have at least a few acres where my dogs could run and just plop a tiny house on it. Having a garden to grow my own food and not keep spending $$$ on organic produce would be a game-changer. As a single person in my 40s, a tiny house without a lot of cleaning and stuff everywhere sounds amazing 😂

      Yeeessss!!!! I scour the tiny house listings allll the time. I’m thinking that’s likely the direction I will go.

    I paid up all my mortgages in 2yrs while working with a Financial Adviser. I’m 50 and my husband 54 we are both retired with over $3 million in net worth and no debts. We got to realize that the secret to financial freedom is making better investments.

      That is so amazing, I’m trying to get onto the investing ladder at 40. I wish at 55 I will be testifying to similar success..

      Kathie Daisy Bosco is the licensed fiduciary I use. Just research the name. You’d find necessary details to work with a correspondence to set up an appointment..

    Happiness doesn't have to cost money. You just have to re-evaluate what matters. I'm glad I learned this lesson, because it's been my greatest ally in recent years. :)

    Hi Rachel, I’ve been watching you for a few months and appreciate you sharing your expenses with us here. I am the sole support of my home and currently working several part-time jobs. This can be challenging, especially with variable income.

    Its ok to live with a relative. Its tough out there and you gotta do what you gotta do to survive.
    I know i havent been on your channel much because of being busy with work grinding and job interviewing fishing for something more convenient instead of staying in this toxic place with a 2 hour commute one way

    I say sell the rental property that would be a great idea, but do whatever you think is best for you❤

    Enjoy your optimism and transparency. Good idea to explore selling the house. Regarding your expenses: 1) is there a Planet Fitness near you? You could get a $15 monthly gym membership instead of paying $65. 2) Why are there no expenses related to cell phone service in your budget? Hope you get that extended sea trip!

    • @its.rachel.hickey
      @its.rachel.hickey  2 месяца назад

      Thank you for the kind words! And thank you for reminding me to mention my cell phone and car insurance. Some months, I definitely forget to mention those. I pay my cell phone annually because it gives a good discount and because I hate monthly bills. My car insurance I pay every 6 months because that’s the longest they’ll let me stretch it out. Unfortunately the nearest planet fitness is about 25 min away and for right now, that’s more than I want to drive to the gym every day. I will definitely not pay for a Y membership once I leave my aunt’s house and am paying everything on my own again, but for now, I am treating myself a bit.

      @@its.rachel.hickey Rachel I was born in Maine and went back there last year, but I found housing so expensive I left after a few weeks. I had secured three different jobs, but couldn’t accept what I would be paying in rent. Take advantage of your great aunt, and enjoy the beauty of Maine .hope you get your sea days this month

    Low stress sounds like my idea of happiness! How can your resources and position be utilized to best equal your happy life? Hmmm that's the perpetual question. Indeed I'd play out if selling the rental property what would that allow you in the options? I hope you'll do a video playing out a few scenarios. I too am in the place of I want to have as chill a life as possible!!! I'm considering all my options too.

    • @its.rachel.hickey

      Yes, that’s definitely the perpetual question! And great video idea, thank you!! I’ll be thinking on the scenarios while I’m out here for the next few weeks 🌊 and see if I can come up with a sensical video about all of it. Thanks!!

    Good luck Rachel, hope everything goes great with your offshore trip. Getting a affordable piece of land with a cabin or modest house with low payments would be a dream for me too. Unfortunately it's just not possible where I live lol. My mortgage is still affordable by today's standards (under $2k per month) but I still need to earn a higher salary to afford life. If I had more affordable options near my job, family and friends I would downsize

    How much are homes in your area? And yes, a piece of land sounds really good and you can pay that off and then just build your house as you go.

    • @its.rachel.hickey
      @its.rachel.hickey  3 месяца назад

      Exactly!! Honestly, they range wildly. But definitely some doable options if I’m willing to live a bit further from the coast or bigger areas. It will be a balancing act of price vs. location but I think I should be able to find something.😌
