I loved my wedding but hated shopping for a wedding dress. There were no dresses that came close to fitting me and it was so depressing. I left stores embarrassed and sad. My now husband (36 years later) decided that he would go with me to find the right dress. We found a wonderful small shop where the owner came to my rescue. She pulled out all the books of styles she could order and helped me find a dress that was one I thought would work but I was afraid to put in a special order - so much money at the time for me and I had no idea what it would look like. So we left. Two weeks later, that woman called me and said she had ordered the dress and did I want to come in to try it on. It was perfect and I bought it instantly. I realized what a gift she had given me and I also realized that there were wonderful people in the world. Your enthusiasm and positive attitude makes me realize that we live in better times. Thanks.
This make me tear up! I had a similar no-fitting wedding dress situation. It is amazing that there are just some genuinely good people out there. Thank you for sharing that!
Elsa- what a wonderful thing for that store owner to do!! Being a bride is supposed to be a magical experience- but everything around the dress was frustrating and embarrassing for me, too! I am so happy that you found an amazing person to help you! There are so many amazing people in this world!!
Hey Meredith! I love when you do bridal (whether bride, member of the wedding party or guest)! You get almost giddy with happiness and that makes me smile. What a day brightened you are! ☀️ I'm in a rush, but didn't want to forget! So here are my rankings, for what they're worth. 😂 1. Lace Fit &Flare - The one with the neckline that's like a boat neckline in front and scoop in back. It looks like more of a column style on which I think suits you, especially with the fullness for the train in the back. The sleeves are beautiful, too, and the perfect length. It's such an elegant look! 2. Off The Shoulder - Another one that's so pretty on you! I really love the open neckline and upper chest on you - so flattering with your pretty shoulders. It's simple and elegant making your face and hair and jewelry the stars. 3. Maxi Mesh Empire Waist - I can't decide exactly what's wrong with this one (IMO, of course 😂). I think it's that the belt is way too narrow and flimsy in appearance. I agree with you - find something else. Preferably wider and with more impact. I think this one would be beautiful with that more substantial, but still very bridal, belt and sleeveless. It would give it more of a tailored, almost Grecian feel. But I don't really mind the sleeves so much on this style. Funny, this one grows on me more as I look at it. 4. Bridgerton - Not my fave. I think it's the sleeves for me that make me not like it. I would have preferred short sleeves or cap sleeves. Just too much overall flutter! I love the skirt, though. 5. Tea Length - I WANTED to love it... I think issue number 1 was the length. It needed 2" to hit where your calf widens which would be the ideal length. And the neckline is just too high and thick looking where it meets your neck. It would have been so perfect for you, I think, if it had straps about 1.75" wide going from the outside of the bodice up along the seamline of the sleeve with the sleeves attached to the straps. And with the lace just covering the sweetheart bodice of the dress then no more, opening up the upper chest. With the back matching. I hope I described that so it made sense. I think I'd have loved it that way! Or even made more like the bodice on the Lace & Tulle Beaded Sash dress would be better. 6. Lace & Tulle Beaded Sash - This one just looks frumpy to me. And I think it looks a bit frumpy on the model, too! Maybe if it had a wide crinoline underneath to pouf the skirt out a bit, ball gown-style? Dead last for me. Hope you're really feeling better - you look like you do - and that have a beautiful week! ❤
@BigonStyle Me too. Been married 30 years to a wonderful man. Plus size brides were not the norm. I was a size 16. I PRAY we will not return to those days. I know women are on a weight loss journey and that is great for health, BUT I hope that fashion is still for plus size people as we complete the journey.
When my parents were engaged back in the 50s, my military father came home from a year long deployment with the news that he had a month to report for another long deployment, but this time he could bring his wife. The wedding was on! My grandmother was a seamstress and made my mom's tea lenth wedding dress. It was beautiful, and so, to me, tea length dresses are so romantic because they remind me how much my parents loved each other. ❤❤
My wedding was in "the Little Log Church" on a dirt road in Arkansas. The church was 24 feet square and could comfortably seat about 36 people. I invited 32. My dress was light pink with darker pink flowers and until we were about 10 minutes from the church I had completely forgotten about a bouquet, so I stopped along the road and pick wildflowers from the ditch. The rest of my flowers were pots of petunias and pansies and pinks that I had grown at home. The Little Log Church was on private property and just so happened to be owned by a preacher, who was our officiant. It was built in the 1800's and had been a school house back then. There was no indoor plumbing but the original outhouse was still in working order. My food was catered and a gift from my sister and my cake was from the local Amish bakery. All in all the entire wedding (with donation to the church included) cost us around 250 dollars. I still have people tell me how much they loved it. The Only stress I dealt with was over my dress. I was plus sized and knew I was gonna be in lots of photos and I didn't want to look "dumpy". I ended up loving the dress I got and after the ceremony turned it into a maxi skirt.
Krickette, this may be the most romantic wedding story ever!!! $250 and it sounds idyllic! What amazing memories! Thank you for giving me the mental picture!
Sounds like a perfect day I bet the wildflowers were gorgeous I enjoyed reading your comment I could picture the small church, the cake etc I almost felt like I was at your wedding lol
I loved seeing all of these wedding dresses! The second dress made you look like a movie star!! Absolutely gorgeous. And yes, that last dress was, to put it plainly, dowdy. And you are never dowdy. On the second to last dress, the rhinestone belt looked cheap. My second favorite was the off the shoulder dress, it was so pretty! And I felt you when you talked about trying on a dress that was too small. In 1984 I'd be stuffed into a dress, the back left open, unable to straighten up. The saleslady would say, "Imagine it in your size"! We were having a Saturday night NYC wedding, so I ended up designing my own dress, and having it made in a tiny shop. Plain ecru satin, no lace, no train, fitted bodice with a dropped waist, sweetheart neckline. The long veil was the train, a Juliet cap trimmed with seed pearls.
The off the shoulder gown was fabulous! I would definitely wear that for a vow renewal. My husband and I were married 50 years last August. ❤️ Melissa K
Watching video interruption to say that your little details do Not go Unnoticed. You put on that 1st dress and you did your hair, the heels, jewelry. It gives us all the feels. ❤❤❤❤ Thank you.
My daughter wore the last dress in her wedding. She replaced the belt with a rose gold bejeweled belt and rose gold jeweled necklace and earrings. She got married in December 2020 during Covid. It was just her, the groom, me and her sister and the officiant on the beach in the Outer Banks. We had about 50 people on zoom attending. She was beautiful and it was a great dress that looked beautiful for a very reasonable price.
Oh, I love that- it sounds so romantic! I imagine that the rose gold was beautiful with this lovely tulle gown. I can only imagine the stress of getting married in 2020 with all of the restrictions. It sounds like you made the most of it and had an incredibly beautiful bride!!
I love reading the reviews in Torrid wedding dresses (Say Yes to the Dress is my guilty pleasure - love Jo & Al). It's so fun to see they happy brides who saved thousands on their dresses!
Ahh, kindred spirits!! I really adore seeing happy brides, it sounds like I need to watch say yes to the dress- I honestly don’t think I have ever seen a full episode!
@@BigonStyle Watch the Curvy Brides versions with Jo & Al who are in the UK. They are very empowering to plus size women. I think you would enjoy them!
All of these dresses are gorgeous, but the off the shoulder was my favorite. My husband and I got married in our living room in a small ceremony. That's the type of ceremony I see the tea length dress for. A smaller ceremony at home, the courthouse, Las Vegas, etc.
I feel the same way- I have been married for 19 years, so very far removed from needing a wedding dress, but boy, do I enjoy seeing them - especially on ladies with a similar build! Thank you for taking the time to comment!
Meredith!! They all looked good on you! I love the first one, and the tea length one….just as a white dress….maybe not wedding! I love white dresses, especially in the summer! And, with celebrating my 45th anniversary in August, I don’t need a wedding dress! 😂❤️
Would love to see your wedding pictures!! You are amazing and I love your style!! I think that the dresses could be altered at the waist/bust line. So no need to change the lace
The minister who confirmed my husband was back in town (from out of state) for a short visit. Hubby really wanted him to do the ceremony, so I got a very romantic proposal! “You wanna?” To which I replied, “okay”. M-I-L didn’t appreciate that I wanted to wear a sundress (white) with shoulder straps, so I went out THE MORNING OF MY WEDDING and bought my dress (pale green), my shoes, and my husband’s tie (matched to my tan cuz it was a color in his shirt😂). Mother in law made food for the reception and held it at her home. Family only wedding in the church chapel with extra guests and neighbors at the reception. This all took place in about 1 week! 45 years later, I can still say it was a memorable wedding! By the way, hubby’s grandma just about had a nervous breakdown waiting on my husband to arrive at the church. Wedding was at 7:30…hubby climbed off tractor at 6:30 and made it just in time. He was back out on the tractor at 8am the next day.
It sounds like you have a hard working hubby!! I think best thing ever is the that he climbed off of a tractor an hour before the wedding! I cannot believe that you were able to find a dress the morning of the wedding!!
@@BigonStyle my husband’s father was killed (hit by train) when my husband was 20. He quit college (which he didn’t really enjoy) and took over the family farm. It’s all he ever wanted to do.
So very beautiful and you can wear the first one out to just about anything. One of the other ones could also be worn out I guess it depends on the event. Anyway thanks for the beautiful gowns you chose to share with us. Until next time
You look beautiful in all of them. Very affordable. I was not crazy about the tulla in the last one. You looked so lovely in the off-the-shoulder dress. A fun video.
Absolutely love your videos and you have helped me find affordable dresses while I am on a journey to a healthier me. I’ve lost 67lbs. so far, but still have quite a way to go, so not having to break the bank as I move toward my goal is important. I’m a fellow Houstonian, so comfort is key. Thanks again for all you do.
The second dress was my favorite on you. I went to a bridal shop with my sons girlfriend and her mothers they drank wine I was to scared to incase I spilt some on a dress but it was lots of fun. I think you have much more choice and range of price than we do.
What an enjoyable and beautiful video! You actually looked gorgeous in all of the dresses, but #s 1 and 2 were the ‘most gorgeous’. The best part of this video though, were all the precious comments that the ladies made about their weddings. What fun!
The 1st dress was my favorite by a mile. It screamed comfortable (and happy) summer bride. If it needed to be shortened, making one alteration where the skirt meets the bodice or one alteration above the top row of lace would be easier and more cost effective that altering every row of lace.
How did I miss this video? These are all beautiful and I like all of them on you except for the last dress. It’s so nice to see choices in plus sizes. When I married in the early 80’s, it was near impossible to find wedding dresses in plus sizes! Love your channel!
Your videos are so great -- love seeing such a variety of items on someone of a similar shape and size. I have no plans to have a wedding now or anytime really in the future, but I really enjoyed watching this try-on anyway. You looked lovely in these dresses. I didn't even know Torrid was an option for this sort of thing!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate your kind words ❤️. I hear you on the wedding dresses, I will never need one again, but boy do I like watching them, looking at them (and now!) trying them on!
If hemming at home , the boho take apart at the waist, pin pin pin !!! Then pull up , repin top/ bottom , resew . Take your time, doable , just can'nt stress enough take time !
I actually checked out torrid wedding dresses and didn't like them on the model photo. But you've convinced me otherwise. They all looked amazing on you. They look a lot better in motion.
LOVE that dress you have on at the start of this video- looks totally fab on you and I am a total sucker for some floral embroidery. Actually, embroidery full stop. It’s rare in mass produced clothing because even machine embroidery raises production costs so much. Maybe you could do a video on your favourite embroidered pieces? I have a SHEEPSKIN jacket embroidered with exotic birds, - yes, designer and cost a fortune even in an outlet (and unsuitable for Texas!) but just looking at it makes me smile!
I hated that I found Torrid's wedding dresses about six months after my wedding. There were definitely styles I would have chosen and they wouldn't have cost the over $1k my dress did. Thank you for showing these dresses.
Sooo pretty and I agree with another poster, the off the shoulder is sooo flattering!! No wedding dress in my future… I turn 74 today!🎉. But I’ll be on lookout for a wedding guest dress before November! 😂
When I got married, I was so afraid we'd lose so much of the bottom of my dress because I'm only 5'1". The owner of the bridal salon told me, as long as there's a seam at the waist, they take the dress apart there & adjust the height that way. It's also less expensive because it's less work overall. I was so relieved and my dress was perfect.
I love this! Thanks Meredith. I considered buying two of these even though I have no intention of getting married! I was thinking of dying one pale blue and the other pale pink just for fun. The prices on sale were great.
My fave was the second dress, the slim fit one. Like you I was not keen on the tea length one, but also I didn't like the last one - too much fabric everywhere! Love that these dresses are in most people's price range, unlike some of the expensive wedding dress videos where the dresses cost thousands of dollars.
To shorten his first dress that I'm watching on you try on my best guess would be to take out some of that top Lacy area at the waistline and reattach the waistline
I hate shopping and I was looking forward to shopping for my wedding dress like I would a root canal. Got married in 1997 and kept procrastinating on my dress. I’m so glad I did. Received a Roman catalog in the mail and saw a light cream colored tea length two piece ensemble that was absolutely gorgeous. It had a drop waist with banding at the bottom edge of the top. The entire dress had a beautiful floral lace overlay with sequins and beading that enhanced the floral design. V neck with 3/4 sleeves. It looked like Victorian and the Roaring 20’s had a baby if that makes sense. I hemmed and hawed and didn’t order right away. Then I got another catalog showing the dress at a reduced cost. That was the sign. I was between a 1x and a 2x at the time so I ordered both as I was running out of time. They shipped the 2x first and when I put it on, it was like it was made for me. It fit perfectly. I canceled the 1x order. I was so hyper critical of myself and my weight/body back then but even I thought I looked good. I cannot tell you how many compliments I received on my wedding day about my dress in particular. One of my bridesmaids even said that I looked like a movie star. Well that’s my wedding dress story. Oh, paid $186 for my dress with NO alterations.
Paula- I LOVE THIS STORY!!! You described the dress so well that I feel like I have a good mental image of it! It sounds like that dress was meant to be yours!! ❤️
I am impressed by the wedding dress details and the affordable price. Then I went to Torrid's website and saw all the wedding dresses were 40% OFF! 😮I have no idea how long the sale will last. I'm curious, have you ever done a Mother of the Bride or Groom dress haul? My three sons are all grown with families of their own (16 grandbabies with one on the way!) but boy, oh boy, did I search the web for Mother of the Groom dresses in plus sizes. I know you're too young to even thinking of such yet, but maybe your subs are in the age range that would appreciate such a haul? OR wedding guest dresses/outfits would be fun, too. Who doesn't love to get dressed up once in a while!
Both the tea length and the off the shoulder heavy one would both look better with a petticoat under them to create an even smaller waist on both dresses. Also, the long one you may not have to have hemmed if a petticoat is used. I liked the Lace Fit & Flare on you the best out of all the dresses. It made you look the slimmest out of all the dresses. You looked HOT in that dress! From one full figured girl to another. My largest size I was in was a 32W. Cheers!
lovely. all of them, and you. I am about to have my 30th (yup) wedding anniversary. I ended up wearing the "just in case dress" it was fine. I wore a 16-18 at the time, and i found a sweet cotton and lace dress a Laura Ashley (I'm old, don't forget) it was just plain, and a good color for me, and they (for some reason) had my size in stock as the sample. They wouldn't sell it to me, though. I get it, but I was late(ish) 3 months out to look. But, even though I was not the kind of girly who dreamed of a wedding, I felt kind of sad that I didn't get to wear a real wedding dress. That dress was so, so simple. A-line, straight cut across the bust (pre-kids, I had smallish ones) in a solid cotton. The bodice had a lace overlay. It was probably the only wedding dress I wanted. I guess I could have really given them the sob story, but I was alone, so I did not. I ended up in a deep wine colored Velvet, that was good, but not stunning. Evening wedding though. so it worked. Anyway, thank you for showing dresses that I might have wanted to wear.
It is amazing how much detail you remember about that dress (almost) 30 years later- and it makes sense- getting married is such an important time. I know Laura Ashley- I always think of them as very picturesque, sweet dresses. I appreciate you painting a mental picture for me! We spent a fortune on my dress, it was beautiful , but I did not love it. I look at my pictures now, and I really just see how happy and hopeful both of us were and that is enough in my book! Cheers to your 30th!
I’m getting married next year and I can’t begin to tell you how overwhelmed I am feeling. Thank you for sharing these videos. You are such a breath of fresh air. I would like for you to get some better lighting for filming. I know you are working on a studio soon. You deserve it!
Melissa, I hope that things calm down for you in the coming months and that you can find some joy in all of the wedding stress! Congratulations!! I am working on lighting and an in -home studio - it is going to be a long process, but until it is finished, I will be more cognizant of the kitchen lighting. I have one video that is filmed that has some strong, direct light while I open the clothes- I’m trying to figure out if I can edit it or if I need to scrap it!
You would not choose the tea length address, but it looked beautiful on you. It isn’t an ugly dress. It’s just not the dress you would choose for yourself, but it’s still pretty and especially looks pretty on you.

Wow, I love Torrid but didn't know they carried such beautiful wedding dresses. I love it!
Me either! I don't need one, but happy they are out there!
Kathy- me either! I assume that they aren’t carried in store at all. Love that they carry these at a reasonable price!
Until next time
Love your themes. You so embrace the theme and your chat goes right to the heart and elevates my willingness to new styles. Thank you. !!
Thank you so much!!
They’re all pretty but that 2nd dress so beautiful on you.
Thank you so much! That one was so simple, and just a stunner!
I didn't know Torrid had wedding dresses either. They were all beautiful in their own ways, so I think there is one for every kind of bride. Thanks.🎉
Thank you, Keri! This was such a fun discovery!
I bought the $40 on, size 28 to donate ! I plan on finding a local military bride to be, become her fairy godmother just like Cinder had .
Oh my goodness, Murle, what an amazing gift- I love your giving heart!!! ❤️
That is so amazing! What a blessing you are ma’am!
You look beautiful in all of them. Very affordable. I was not crazy about the tulla in the last one. You looked so lovely in the off-the-shoulder dress. A fun video.
Thank you so much!! I really had so much fun with this! I love finding beautiful, affordable things
Getting to watch this on my 24th wedding anniversary!
Ahh!!! Happy 24th!!! My 19th is next week, so we are just 5 years apart! ❤️❤️❤️
Well, those were beautiful gowns. I agree that I liked the last one the least on you. My favorite was the Sleeping Beauty dress. Totally you. ❤
I just adored the sleeping beauty dress!!! Thank you!
Thank you so much for showing Torrid's wedding dresses! I appreciate it so much. I loved the first one and the one you chose! Love it! Thank you!
Thank you so much! I had a lot of fun playing in Wedding gowns that afternoon!!
Oh My God ¡ That last dress!!
I thought it was so much fun! Not me, but very fantasy!
OMG each dress was beautiful, I’m very impressed with this selection. Good job!
What an enjoyable and beautiful video! You actually looked gorgeous in all of the dresses, but #s 1 and 2 were the ‘most gorgeous’. The best part of this video though, were all the precious comments that the ladies made about their weddings. What fun!
The first dress was my favourite
The 1st dress was my favorite by a mile. It screamed comfortable (and happy) summer bride. If it needed to be shortened, making one alteration where the skirt meets the bodice or one alteration above the top row of lace would be easier and more cost effective that altering every row of lace.
I loved number 1 and 2. But the others would be lovely 🌹 on some one else. Thanks so much 💕. Have a wonderful day 💗
Thank you! You too!❤️
How did I miss this video?
I loved the second and fourth one on you!
Thank you, Jennifer!
Oh my goodness, that is so rough! Mine was in the same price range. There are so many more options now!!
Sooo pretty and I agree with another poster, the off the shoulder is sooo flattering!! No wedding dress in my future… I turn 74 today!🎉. But I’ll be on lookout for a wedding guest dress before November! 😂
I’d have to see the off the shoulder dress next to the Princess Catherine dress from previous bride dress haul to pick my true favorite. ❤❤❤
The fifth one is my favourite I love it ! ✨
Thank you so much, Jenny!
Oh my, the 2nd one was so elegant.
One was fun and I loved it but two was Stunning! I do not prefer white dresses but I would wear either of them.
Krickette, watching back, I really think that the second one was the most stunning of all of them- and it was so simple! Just well cut!
Off shoulder lace…I love it on you.
The boho I wondered if ossible to tea dye ...
The off the shoulder dresz ismy dream dress, I actually have thought of buying it just in case for an anniversay !!
All the gowns are beautiful but the first dress was so wonderful on you
Thank you, Marilyn!
So happy to have you here on RUclips. Really enjoyed the video. The dresses were just beautiful. #1 was by far my very favorite one 🤗❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much, Yvonne! I really appreciate you saying that!!
I actually loved the two you liked the least! Lol!
My mother's wedding gown was tea length and so I really liked that one on you. But, seriously, they all looked gorgeous!
The off shoulder one looks so great on you!
Thank you!
Omg the second dress was so beautiful on you. I think you need to have a vow renewal!
All gorgeous, but I'm leaning to number one. Makes me want to get married again! LOL
Lucille, I totally understand!! I honestly think that I’m going to keep that one, I think I can make it work as a non-wedding dress!
Had to comment before I watched the entire video. That 1st dress is gorgeous on you!
Thank you so much, Pattie!
That is pretty awesome to hear that it can be altered that way! I am so happy that you had the perfect dress!! Thank you for sharing!
I love this! Thanks Meredith. I considered buying two of these even though I have no intention of getting married! I was thinking of dying one pale blue and the other pale pink just for fun. The prices on sale were great.
I love that! I am going to keep the first one because I just love it, I hadn’t thought about dying it, but I just might- thank you for the idea!!!
I think all but the last 2 dresses were very flattering on you 💜
Thank you, Mary!
That’s a genius idea. So much easier than hemming the bottom ❤.
Lovely dresses. I'd love to see them with petticoats. Ball gown style
Oh, I should do that in a little short! Thank you for the idea!
Discovering Torrid was such a big deal for me. I felt like I could dress cute again. I feel more confident, carry myself differently!
Dress #2 . Stunning. Beautiful. Loved it Best.
I liked the second one best , it was so flattering on you
Thank you so much, I think that one feels very elegant! I really appreciate you taking the time to comment!
The 2nd one would look so nice with a belt or ribbon. Like a bling belt
I think you are right, adding a rhinestone belt would be beautiful!
I loved them all, but my favorites were the same ones you liked best.❤️
Thank you, Deanna!
Very pretty dressing and I have a Torrid where I live
The white lace off shoulder is lovely on you
Thank you so much, I love that one!
Who doesn't love to get dressed up once in a while!
no 2 was my favourite and it looked great on you
My favorite on you is nr 1
For myself I would choose nr 2. Even would make it more mermaid.
Heidi, I like the idea of pulling it in and making that one more mermaid! I’m going to pin it and see how that will look!
Very pretty and a great value
ELOQUII also has wedding dresses! Would love to see these tried too!
Ooh, thank you for the tip! I have never tried anything from ELOQUII!
I loved the second dress the most and the first dress was a close 2nd.
Thank you, Sherry!
#4 is the most flattering
Loved the first two 💞🌻
Thank you, Laynie!!
The intro dress 🔥 ❤
Thank you! That was an anthropology rental from Nuuly! I believe it is called the Somerset eyelet ❤️
You would not choose the tea length address, but it looked beautiful on you. It isn’t an ugly dress. It’s just not the dress you would choose for yourself, but it’s still pretty and especially looks pretty on you.
The second one looks best.
Aww you looked so pretty in all those dresses!
Thank you so much!
The off the shoulder is my favorite. It’s so flattering on you and is beautiful!❤
LOVE the second dress on you -- such an elegant and chic look!! And I do love your hair -- looks amazing when up -- and especially with those dresses!
Thank you so much!! I think that these dresses called for an updo!
I agree the first with the fancy belt would be stunning!
Thank you, Susan- I need to try a belt on that one!
