You could call your channel The Ambitious Bishop. Other chess-related wordplay is in the pipeline, for your education and edification.
Was waiting for this analysis, this is going to be a treat! Thank you for being so consistent with these vids, Dan.
You are welcome!
The video footage of Nodirbek looking at Magnus with the "come on man, this is over" expression during the queen ending was priceless. 3000 performance, not bad.
Great presentation as always GM King. Thank you. Queen ending lessons appreciated.
Think I saw Magnus playing blitz online afterwards, he must be on nuclear Tilt. Be interesting to see how well he bounces back. Could be pretty frustrating if Jorden doesn't want to fight as white. Going to be a great finish regardless!
Nodirbek is such a mature player already. To keep such composure against the World Champion and play in such a principled way, just centralizing his Queen multiple times before making any more progress, that is really impressive to see; this is what Magnus usually does to others. Extraordinary performance. It is really good to see that the younger generation already has so many great talents.
A brilliantly played pragmatic endgame from abdusattorov, great bravery from Carlsen sacing the exchange. we have been lucky with brave and exciting play from many of the players here and some brilliant defensive and pragmatic play from other. Thanks Daniel and keep up the great work.
Abdusattorov will definitely win candidates in coming years and challenge for world championship title. He seems relentless mentally.
Bold claim. If nothing else, don't forget dozens of Indian prodigies.
@@infernal314 Abdusattorov seems more special than those indian kids.
I love that you are ignoring the computer first move when they are too difficult to find for humans. Makes for a much more understandable narrative.
If I followed the computer's first move all the time, we would never finish the game! Besides, different computers have different opinions...
Good technique by Abdusattorov by trading down, transforming his advantage, maintaining control with better pieces, and preventing counterplay of all meaningful weaknesses
Great analysis as always, especially with explaining all the small details of a queen endgame. Looking forward for the next games!
Nodirbek Abdusattorov was a GM at 13 years old and 1 month old!
His time was always going to come.
And boy did it ever with this faultless display.
Great analysis. Instead of Qd6+ though, Qc3+ seems simpler to me. We can then go for Qb4+ and b1=Q if the king steps up or Qc2+ with a trade of queens if the king steps down
Much respect for Nordibek!
12:10 We need to make a community compilation of "the many heres of Danny King". It always brings a smile to hear this vocal inflection, witnessed no less than 1000 times on this channel at a critical juncture of the game.
When was the last time Magnus lost two classical games in a row? Does anybody know?
2015 I think I heard.
Nice Gretsch guitar....I am a Fender Stratocaster man myself. We need a drummer and we could call ourselves The Check Mates. Anyway what a talent Abdusattorov is. Really liked the rook sac of Magnus and having attractive looking bishop pair to begin with. How wrong both Magnus and myself were! Excellent analysis as always GM King
Actually it’s a cheap Gibson copy! But it’s still quite a nice instrument :)
The Exchange sac wasn`t a mistake actually. The objective problems start with Qb2 and not to take the h7-pawn what is really a counterintuitive move.
Wasn't it Mickey Adams (edit: typed this before he got a shoutout in the video lol) who was described as the best player at exchanging pieces whilst attacking to consolidate/increase an advantage? Seems very similar from Nodirbek here. Absolutely brilliant performance from him!
He looks very much like Alireza. Doesn't let any of the big boys faze him. It's so easy for a junior player to be a little wary of someone of Magnus' calibre.
Loved the video and some of the variations. The black knight mating on the white knight's starting square was a wonderful variation.
Brilliant Daniel ty. I was watching live, the commentators thought it was a draw with three pawns left - you explained why Black was doing better than that.
Thanks Andrew.
It was a draw right after the exchange. After Qf3 white had Qe8+ and Qe5 or Qe1. For some reason it's important that the black queen doesn't get to e5/d4. I don't know what that reason is.
Powerplay to 100k!!!
So many potent players now, like a new wave has come to shake the foundations
How is this channel still not 100k?
I do wonder, do we see value in converting some of the content we have in our older DVDs into RUclips series? That might take some time, but at least the content itself is already there, and the DVDs are dwindling in monetary value anyway, can’t let the great educational content get lost!
GREAT commentary. At this rate from Carlsen, the winner of Ding-Nepo might actually matter...
PowerPlayChess to 100k!
16:55 When you say "I'm absolutely sure that white is lost in this position." you are correct, at this point the tablebase confirms it is lost, but maybe surprisingly when you said "... and eventually these checks will run out." 16:12 you appear to be incorrect, Qe8+ is still drawing and apparently the checks don't run out.
Anyway, as always thanks for the great coverage!
Impressive play with the simplification.
It's the worth the extra wait for the king's analysis.
The Only Game that made me Realise
the Importance of Queen Centralisation.
Debilitated Carlsen’s King 😬
You really do an amazing job commentating each match! In fact, you seem to really understand not only the tournament but each player. Well done
I enjoyed watching you analyzing the game. Your voice perfectly matches to chess as a tranquilizer.
Wonderful game and really enjoyed your analysis, especially the subtleties of the b pawn. Very clear and logical throughout, will be great to see him build on this style of game, not seen one quite like it before. Take care Daniel
Much love Daniel
wow! entertaining game to say the least. thx for analysis.
Yes, I immediately recognized the postation with only the knight's pawn as a loss for Carlsen, since his king was misplaced. It should be either in front of the pawn or in the corner oppostie to the promotion square of the pawn.
Very interesting & thorough analysis. I thought Carlsen's exchange sac was very promising and I liked his position after Ba3. I love Q+P endgames but they're so mindblowing.
Excellent analysis, game of the year so far
Excellent analysis. Thanks!
Seems like Uzbekistan will have a world champion in the years to come.
Thank you so much Dan 👍
In the endgame, Kh2 instead of Qe8+ was the losing move. Comps say.
Thanks, Dan! Credit to Carlsen for his willingness to take risks, but it didn't pay off this time. Nice to see players like Abdusattorov from the new generation doing well in both rapid, blitz and classical chess. But I hope Carlsen strikes back in the next round. Go Magnus! 👏
The next generation are coming for Magnus. Will he stick around and fight? Or will he shuffle off the classical chess stage? This is a big moment for him. Kasparov had his epic battles against Karpov in the 1980s, then successfully faced down a new generation of players for the next decade. Will Carlsen do the same?
Svidler gave a very good explanation why the queen ending is won on the chess24 stream. After the pawns were exchanged, black's queen is on E5. It puts the white king in a box on the wrong part of the board. The white king would be fine if it for to H7 (far enough), or B2 (ahead of the pawn), but it's cut off on the 5th rank and on the E file. There's no way through because white cannot afford a queen trade because the black king is in time to get ahead it's pawn.
Anyway, I learnt a lot from that.
Now after the a/h pawns were exchanged, it was a draw because the black queen stands awkward. Kh2 was the losing move, Qe8+ and activating the queen was enough. But weirdly even Qe8+ followed by Qe1 draws and I have no idea why.
Svidler puts it well. I would just add that even with White's king in a better position, in practical terms this endgame is very very difficult to defend. As I mentioned in the video, I know this from personal experience. I would say harder than defending rook and bishop versus rook (and yes, I have experience with that endgame too!).
Exactly, Abdu talked about the endgame AT his post game interview
As told before enjoy very much how this talented and young players always smile not as the one that should be and that never ever smile. Si much talento and money and looks always, at last to me, angry. Guess why. Anyhow great review. A pity not see Giri Game re-review by Daniel, but as a gentleman he IS can not do. A pity. Thanks be well be safe. Cheers
Great game by Nodirbek. Magnus loses only if he takes enormous risk. Ba3 looks like a Jobava move.. Interesting.
Noddy in wonderland!
he sacrifices a lot in blitz and even if it is incorrect he usually wins but in classical it is more risky
Why not Kg2 after ...Qxh4+? Does it make a difference?
Hey Danny, By any chance can you also analyze a few games from the challengers tourament?
I am only looking at the top group as I want to establish a clear narrative, and besides, it takes a lot of time to produce one video!
Carlsen's exchange sacrifice might have worked in blitz or rapid, but it had minimal chances to work in a classical game.
At 15:39 after Qh8 doesn't Qf7 resecure the draw? I certainly would never play this move and only saw it when studying the endgame with an engine in an attempt to improve my own Q+P endgames, but it does feel like the type of move Carlsen might've found when in better form.
After Qh8 the line Magnus chose also was a draw. It's just hard not to mess it up. After Qf3 only Qe8+ holds (followed by Qe5 or Qe1 for some reason).
@@csarmii I see you're right, the tablebase has it as a draw after Qe8+, conceptually to my eyes harder to hold than the Qf7 line but probably a non-factor to Magnus
No matter what the tablebases say, in practical terms this whole queen endgame is very very difficult to defend, as I know from personal experience. The fact that Carlsen, arguably one of the greatest endgame experts, failed to hold should tell you everything you need to know.
Like the camera angle danny,id love to see you play magnus...
Haha I don't think that would be much of a spectacle.
@@PowerPlayChess Oh i dont know danny,I think there's a few moves left in the old chess locker you know...
Magnus a little further away from 2900😮
Love the guitar. I thought you play bass ...
I play both!
@@PowerPlayChess Lemmy style. Indeed, chess can be a variation on Rock'n'Roll.
Chunky!
IMHO, Carlsen's loss to Nodirbek was completely unforced, and IMHO a total giveaway. He voluntarily sacked the exchange early on (a rook for a bishop on the long diagonal) for no good reason other than speculative "piece activity"...nothing more, and nothing less...just to see how things would pan out against the young super GM. From that point on, it didn't take rocket science for the young Nodirbek to win the game. Carlsen simply gave the game away. He's not afraid or ashamed to lose, and he's not driven by "ego".
How come Firouzja isnt in this Tournament?
He got disrespected 2 years ago and decided not to compete last year. This year I guess he declined again or maybe wasn't invited.
As I understand it, the organisers would very much like him to play and have done their best to invite him. Who knows what is going on with Firouzja at the moment: he hasn't played for ages.
@@PowerPlayChess someone told me that he mentioned in an interview that he's taking a fashion design course... Couldn't find the interview so can't verify for sure.
@@Blayd9 really? Paris has definitely got to him!
@@Matthew-bu7fg Maybe French women?
Carlsen losing two classical games in a row. I wonder when last that happened
bish takes knight c6???
The back rank is weak.
ABDUSATTOROV IS A GOOD PLAYER, WITH GOOD CHANCES TO GO VERY FAR...
