    From someone who's just dabbling in CAD I am so glad you kept emphasising the amount of time and work it takes in the design side of the build. Love seeing an episode and a run through like this in Australia especially with the focus on making it road legal.

    Well done guys, and very informative for people who don’t know.
    Coming from a race car back ground, you do a great job of explaining it simply.
    Why not Tig things ??

    • @DesignedandBuilt
      @DesignedandBuilt  5 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks mate, really appreciate it especially from someone in the know! I think MIG done well does a pretty good job, it can look awesome as well and saves so much time, its also a lot easier for tacking because you can use your second hand to manipulate the pieces of metal. Stength wise I think they're similar as well. What do you think the benefits of TIG'ing are? Obviously it looks way better!

    • @build_drive_adventure
      @build_drive_adventure 5 месяцев назад

      @@DesignedandBuilt thanks for the reply, again really good videos you guys do.
      Shall get you guys to do me a 40/80 in the future 😊
      I totally get the tacking and quickness in the MiG tacks, and yes do agree MiG done well can look good and is quick. Not that it’s all about looks !!
      Tig definitely looks better, smaller neater, I’d argue lighter and doesn’t work harden the material like MiG and send as much heat through the material. (Easier to grind as well if need be)
      Probably really only more so applies to if you’re using chromoly.
      Guess it’s the Patrol vs Landcruiser mindset huh !! Which is better.
      Both have there place that’s for sure 👍🏻
      Keep up the good work 👏🏻

      @@build_drive_adventure TIG is not economically viable for all but the very few clients. I’m highly modifying my Land Rover 110 and TIG welding everything, the time in prep and the slower process takes much longer (much more than double , probably 3-5x)

    great vid richo, but was curious if you had thought about a 5 link set up with extended lowers (like you can get for the gu/gq patrol from superior but obviously not trying to make that work just the idea of longer lowers). Im curious as to if those would provide some of the same flex benefits that the 4link does, or if its just no good and should either lean one way or the other with 5link vs 4link. thanks mate

    • @DesignedandBuilt
      @DesignedandBuilt  5 месяцев назад +1

      Hey Ben, that setup looks like it flexes really well! Having longer lowers with shorter uppers means the pinions angle would change a fair bit during bump/droop which isn't ideal. The roll centre is fixed with a panhard setup as well (mid panhard) which isn't great for setting up a race car. I'm not sure what the diff would do laterally during bump/droop either but I would imagine side shift a lot more than a 4 link setup. What are you setting up the car for?

  • @aussiebevo103
    @aussiebevo103 3 месяца назад

    Love your videos man. With needing to notch the chassis becuase the trailing arm hits at full bump or close to. Would double triangulatulation have stopped the trailing arm hitting the chassis?

    • @DesignedandBuilt

    I was wondering about the Land Cruiser that was the first one street legal on 40 inch tires in Victoria or was i Queensland ...... What did happen to that car?
    To have a car street legal in Aussiland is a bit of a joke...... You have to have an engineer to make a statement about it..... do the car control system not have any people with some know how on cars or is it just to make it impossible for people to make changes to their cars.
