  • In this video, we have the tractor split apart and finally start taking apart the PowerShift portion on the tractor. Like I said before we are amateurs. We have made some mistakes. You'll see them in this video as we were following the service manual to a newer version of the power shift.

pull the cab off too as this way will cause so much headache putting the transmission gear selector cover back on as the cab platform with great difficulty obstructs getting it off havent worked out how to put it back on a dealer mechanic helping with the job said they spend time pulling cab units off and you can get to the things you need time used is time well saved for later some of the bolts are very difficult to remove however getting them back in is going to be a testing problem when I get that far

I've seen you backed up with the pto on for brush mow and hay bailing on the 1070. Case guideline says backing up with the pto running will overheat the powershift. If not you'll wreck the powershift. I'm saying to all the 70,90 series Agrikings. I'd recommend using the jd 4010 for all pto...

@@donvoll2580 Never.... Because rebuilding the powershift isn't cheap to fix... There almost 50yrs old... like my 1270. Since my powershift got rebuilt.. Ill never use pto ever, I'll never dink with shifting the powershift ranges. All those are what's gonna wear down the powershift.... In my opinion... Example for pulling a 22ft disc, 11 shank chiselplow. when you shift 2nd gear and shift the powershift ranges from 1,2,&3 at 6mph at pto rpms. You overwork the c clutch in the clutch pack because no clutch is holding the c clutch when shifting the powershift ranges... Me I go 3rd gear not shifting powershift ranges, leaving it at 1st range 5mph at pto rpm. Going by gears only and not using the powershift ranges. Your Case powershift will last more on the long run... I'm sure some case guys have no problems and say it doesn't make a difference... logically. I don't believe it...
I'm not saying the cases are useless Doing pto work. Not reversing with the pto running is going to avoid you big bucks rebuilding the powershift... for a tractor that will do the jobs for pto. I recommend John deere or IH..

@@meateaterwhitetail7291 Wow thanks I don't any any Case tractors. But I think that it is too bad that it doesn't work that way.

@@donvoll2580 JI Case tractors are built differently. It took me a while how to operate the 1270 when I first brought it. Dads IH 1066 was more simple to operate.. it has 4 gears and reverse switch and a hi and lo gear. But in the end I like the Cases better than the IHs...

Not to be too nosey, but do you have an idea of what it’ll cost to get this thing going again yourself yet?

Not yet. We are still in the process of tearing it down. Then we will be looking at cost of what we need.

That would be handy! We will be in touch with Elmers Repair. I’m sure if there is one he would know.

The biggest thing that has been a pain is trying to keep everything clean. Service manual is very helpful as long as you look at the right section of the manual. There is a newer version of this power shift that they went to not long after this tractor. Where you can disassemble everything from the front of the transmission where it splits apart. And there’s no need to pull the Powershift control valve off of the top of the transmission. In which we are going to have to do with ours because it’s the older design.
