- Did you know this was the last of the three Superman Ultimate Flight B&M (Bolliger & Mabillard) flying coaster clones to open? The first was the one at Six Flags Over Georgia that opened in 2002 and a year later the one at Six Flags Great Adventure opened in New Jersey, followed by this one a couple of weeks later.
Six Flags Great America is located north of Chicago in Gurnee, Illinois.

The best part of this ride is the vertical gs you feel in that pretzel loop.

That inverted loop is the best part of the ride. You want to look towards the inside but the centripetal force practically forces your head into place. Gives you an idea of the physics at play when someone is actually flying.
That was the only part I closed my eyes because it spooked me, the rest of the ride was one of the first times I ever got my hands free of the grips and held them out like I was flying.
The little boy part of me who use to wrap a towel around his neck and pretend to be Superman came out and had a blast on this ride.

Well you have to sit in flying position. They usually have two train ops so you have to stay like that until the train in front leaves the station
The pretzel loop is unarguably the most intense element I’ve ever experienced on a ride.
I feel like Goliaths stall, Batman’s corkscrews and maxx forces valley are all more intense, but I rode Superman near the front so I didn’t get the full power of the pretzel loop, it was still pretty intense tho
That first inversion is outrageous! Gave me butterflies watching from my laptop!

It's not terrifying to me when I go on it but the drop is pretty scared I'm also imagining me falling off the vehicle head first during that drop

Funny story, for my birthday I took my friends to this six flags and one of my friends had never ever been on a roller coaster because she's always been deathly afraid of them. Well we took her on this one, and just when we were about to drop she was screaming bloody murder, "NO NO NOO I don't wanna do this stoppppp" and I was like "look how high we are, isn't this nice" yeah she was phased at me.
Now she loves roller coasters and has been in pretty much all the rides here at gurnee. He favorite is batman!

I have a similar story to your friend, but my first was Manta at SeaWorld Orlando. It was even a coaster where the riders are on their stomachs.

Word of warning: If you are in the very back of the train, during the pretzel loop, you can neither breathe nor function properly, it's ROUGH... that's how intense that loop is, and it's intense anyways no matter where you are on the ride!!

@@burgerb1091 Why? Because it has high Gs if you are talking about the pretzel loop. Otherwise, it's because you are in a flying position.
@@burgerb1091 It's terrifying because it's an inverted loop, which is very rare in rollercoasters. Rather than being on the inside of the loop, as is the case with most coasters, you're actually flung along the outside of the loop. This has the effect of giving you very intense NEGATIVE G force while simultaneously flinging you out of your seat. It's a unique experience, and it really feels like you're being tossed into oblivion.
Contrast that with most normal loops on roller coasters. They feel much less intense because you are just sucked into your seat.
This was the first roller coaster I ever road. It was great.

The first roller coaster I ever rode at six flags was the raging bull. I hated it so much that I started crying and screaming profanities at my boyfriend. Now I love it. Last time I went to six flags I rode it 5 times and now I have to beg him to get on it with me lmao
the loop made my face scrunch up and the picture looked so bad, it was super fun though! totally worth it.
Both times on this coaster I asked myself, why is this so familiar? Because this is EXACTLY what it feels like to fly in my dreams. People don't tend to rate this one among the best in the park, and I'm glad for it, because my expectations were pretty low and Superman blew me away. A hilarious side attraction is that the riders hang in the air like dried hams in the station, and when they drag you back in you feel like one lol But nobody laughs about it because everybody know that'll be you too. lol
This is a GREAT first ride to try if you’re scared. I sat in the front and sure I got so scared going up but don’t focus on other things and the way down is fun and fast. The loop is the worst part however because you feel like you can’t move. The rest is amazing and I recommend you go on it.

I agree! I'm not fond of big drops that most coasters have, hate the free-fall and rattly loops afterwards. This ride is so smooth and exhilarating, plus the Superman theme that plays in line is nice to listen to XD I dragged my friends through this ride about 4 times since the wait was very short by the end of the day!

So this was actually my first inverting roller coaster, the idea was that since it was a flying position, it wouldn't feel as intense going upside down. It turns out this is probably the worst coaster to be your first inversion as that pretzel loop shows no mercy. We all love you B&M... but what the fucc

I absolutely love this video because 2015 was when I was interning at SFGA in their foods warehouse! Superman was the first ride I ever went on at the park... at night! I never liked rollercoasters but I was with a bunch of interns and it was one of those "you're gonna learn today!" moments.

I can't ever go back on this ride again. The feeling of me sliding off the ride was overwhelming and ironically enough, the loop was the only comforting thing on this ride. The feeling of going back on your seat for a second. Loved that part. Scariest ride at six flags for sure.
I had never grayed out on a roller coaster but I absolutely did in that pretzel loop. This ride is sick, please ride it!

Always thought I hated rollercoasters (only ever ridden on wooden coasters) this was a wild ride! Great first coaster to go on and completely changed my view on them. Intense loop.

Skeptical Lemon We are CoasterForce, so we predominately film coasters (obviously). However, we also film unique thrill and water rides, but not standard ones that are commonly found in most amusement and thrill parks.

Superman is hands down my favorite ride at Great America. Because the train rides under the track, rather than on top of the track you get a free swing flying ride not found on other coaxters. Also, the ride is intense, you pull G s, but it doesn't beat your head about like some of the old coasters did. After 6 brain surgeries, I can,t risk having my head beaten about. Superman does not beat my head about, that's why it is my favorite ride.
This one is so fun and so smooth, one of the best ones there. Just wish it was longer.

Too short to be there best ride imo. On my list this was the 5th or 6th best ride there. Raging Bull or Goliath were both better by quite a bit.

I’ve been on the one in NJ when you are on your stomach, I couldn’t tell if you were on this one, but in NJ you are, and that loop is amazing
One thing I will never forget about this ride is the ridiculous amount of gum that was on the ground and support beams under the lift hill.

I remember coming here for a field trip when I was 14 or so. I always loved coasters from the get-go, never had a fear. but man that inverted loop put a moment of panic in me, lol. my stomach was in my throat

I didn’t realize there was another coaster like Manta in Seaworld Orlando. The design of this flying coaster is unique because you go into the rolls forward instead of backwards which is a very unique sensation. However it appears to be the exact same layout as Manta

I go to Six Flags Great America every time I see Man of Steel or any cartoon that has to do with Superman. This ride is awesome and makes you feel like you are flying like Superman. Great ride totally recommend it. The loop is intense.

I remember for my 8th grade trip, i went here and it was like my first time at six flags ever. This was the first ride i was forced on because i agreed not to chicken out, that pretzel loop was TOUGH.

When you sit on the left edge of the ride, the coaster does a horrifying illusion like you are about about to crash into the polls that keep the ride up.
Pretzel loops are probably one of the few elements that genuinely scare me.
That ride is bad ass. Really feels like you are flying.

The ascent to a right banking big drop, a backwards sort of 360, then a left bank, right bank with a big drop, then a left bank, then a right bank S-curve finishing off with a delayed but surprise corkscrew loop - and the Superman ride is over. It would be scary for me, so I never ever rode this rollercoaster ride, even though I was at Six flags about 5 times in my lifetime.
This is my favorite rode so far next year in going to v2 and Xflight
True six flags visitors will know this: Superman always has hair ties and gums on the ground 😂
I wish B&M still made this Coaster I would love to see it at some Cedar Fair parks and a few other SF parks.

Maybe a different layout? This layout is fun but flyers are more about the sensations for me. I'm close to Alton Towers so we have a great flyer in Air which is arguably the most unique out there. :)
Sam Williamson I think the layout is fine it's a good, easy, and fun Coaster and it was built to give you the sensation of flying than being a crazy thrill ride. It would be nice to have a custom layout but it's a fine Coaster. And also the closest flyer to me is Tatsu I wouldn't say it's the most unique but it is up there it's more of an experience. Tbh I think Sky Scrapper is the most unique Flyer but that's just me.

I was always scared of this ride. After five years of riding the coasters at Great America, I finally rode Superman this year. It is so good, probably my 4th or 5th favorite in the park. I can't wait to try Tatsu, Manta, the other Superman clones, and eventually, Flying Dinosaur and Acrobat

To be honest, I think the Superman ultimate flight ride was the one I was scared of the most. Out of all of them when I first got on a roller coaster for the first time. This was the first one I've ever got on and I think I was scared of that one the most out of all the other roller coasters because of how I was facing down to the ground it felt like I was skydiving.
I was able to get on it last night. It was pretty cool. I enjoyed it other than the loop it was great. Luckily there was no line whatsoever. Just like what happened on Xflight on Friday. For Superman, there was only a 5 min wait time and I was able to ride the Joker last night as well. Personally I'm not the biggest fan of drops, and the combination of flipping upside down wasn't that suitable for me on the Joker. Two more roller coasters crossed off my list. I still need to ride Goliath, Raging bull, V2, and Batman the ride.

The pretzel loop is very intense. If you are in Superman position going into it your arms will become locked to the train above you by the G’s

A cool ride but I prefer Air, sheerly because of the extra interaction with the ground, the scenery and more of the flying sensation. This ride is fun, the pretzel is good, but Air's fly to lie is much better.

I waited 5 hours to go on this ride but is worth it because it is so fun
I have ridden the SFOG version and the SFGAdv version. For those who don't know, this is an exact copy of the SFGAdv version. The OG version (hey, that worked on two levels) is very slightly different, not only in layout but in the trains.
As far as the overall ride, the pretz is the only good part about it. It's really just turn dip turn afterwards with a surprise inline twist finale. It's short. When it first came out, it was worth a 2-3 hour wait. Now, I probably wouldn't wait no more than an hour.

+Katy C Yeah, I actually sort of remembered that. When I went (all the way back in 2006, mind you), I didn't wait no more than an hour for Nitro. I think I waited about an hour and a half for one of my Superman rides. The ones I REALLY had to wait for were Kingda Ka and El Toro, the two reasons why I went to GAdv back then (and they're still two good reasons to go now).
I really wish Six Flags would start "plusing" their coasters; from the que to the station. Especially those that have themed names, just to add little more excitement.
