    Just got a new 2023 300xc about a month ago. I am in love. 2nd time riding it, I tore my ACL at about 3 mph. Had surgery last week and hope to be back to riding in 3 to 4 months. So for now, all I can do is watch videos.

    4hrs on my 23 300XC. No issues except for a blink code that disappeared in the woods before I could start counting. Watching your mods closely and looking forward to AER mods. Looking to reduce the high speed compression for 3 inch plus root compliance but not give up much on whoops etc. Great to watch you working and riding on our bike. Kind Regards, Sid

    For my area of riding I am liking the Acerbis skidplate with the extension covering the rear linkage.
    Break-in oil agree 1,000%. Over 80 years ago automobiles use to have "break-in oil" due to the way the engines were made. Nothing uses break-in oil since then.
    So the 2023 does not have the coolant thermostat crap assembly like the TPI's had.
    I lke how the 1 O'ring sits down so it cannot be accidently moved when installing the head.

    Hey im watching your videos becasue my tx300 this past Saturday just would not fire. i just had my stator rewound by Ricky, added a baja designs wiring harness to run a squadron pro. After i installed all that i tested it around my neighborhood. Fired right up. Went riding with my buddy no issues unitl we stopped at a trailhead, i hit thr stop button then when we were ready to go again i hit the start button and it would just turn and turn. No sprak. Ive checked all fuses all good. The odometer i noticed does not turn on either. If i remember correctly it would show me hours when you hit the start button. Any ideas???

    • @highlandcycles
      @highlandcycles  Год назад +1

      The hour meter is supposed to turn on. I would check the relay that turns all the power on. The button spins the motor, that spins the flywheel and the sensor goes past the pickup coil and that actually triggers a relay that turns all the power on to the fuel pump and ignition. Could also be an issue with the pickup coil.

    • @frankortiz8249
      @frankortiz8249 Год назад +1

      Where is the relay that turns all the power on? Also do you think the rewound stator could be a cause of the problem? Like in your videos you can find the issue but need to know why something is happening.

    • @frankortiz8249
      @frankortiz8249 Год назад

      Actually I did find the relay and checked the fuse. It's all good but don't know if the relay is bad.

    • @highlandcycles
      @highlandcycles  Год назад +2

      @@frankortiz8249 I doubt that the rewound stator is the issue but maybe on install you pinched a pickup coil wire? I would check in there again just to be safe. The relay is one of those under the seat. I’m not sure which one. To check if that circuit is the issue, bump the start button and listen for the fuel pump. If it doesn’t turn on then you have a power supply problem. Either relay, pickup coil, or wiring in between.

  • @jetdr
    @jetdr 2 года назад +2

    what is your opinion on the TPI Bikes? Internal engine wear with it running rich and or lean at start up and how to combat the lack of oil that would be in the piston at start up. maybe running a few drops of Castor in the fuel pre mixed to help lubricate. I love the 300 XC W for where I ride but just have a few worries, I currently ride a 2009 yz250 that I have made into a Woods machine but I want a Bike that is actually made for that, better lower end grunt.

    • @highlandcycles
      @highlandcycles  2 года назад +1

      The cheap way to take care of the TPI is making sure you warm it up properly. If you blip the throttle on warm up you’ll damage it. They need a while before oil is where it needs to be. The cool way to make it bad ass is the TSP split injection kit b

    • @highlandcycles

      Kelsey likes even more oil than 40:1. I am only raising compression up to close to what it would be at sea level so I won’t be using any race gas up here. Now if I go to lower elevations I probably will have to use some race gas.

    I have a 2020 Beta 300 and 1 of the rides I do is 62 miles to the gas & last week it died a mile from the gas station. So I just payed the bike totally over on its left side Because I figured that I probably around 4 ounces of residual gas on the right side of the tank. Problem with this new 300 fuel tank is the gas pick up is in the back center of the tank. And I’m getting a 300 SX so I will be fine for a Motocross race and I’m sure Acerbis will come out with something but it’s going to have to be receiving all of its volume towards the top which will make the bike feel top-heavy . So I’m interested to see how the engineering turns out on that item. Also the Betas come stock with the same radiator cap but it’s been basically no problem and I have mine connected up to a Motion Pro Overflow tank and it works great.Now in 2002 we drove two days to Marquette Michigan to do a old school National Enduro and my friend went about 6 miles and went over the handlebars clipped his boot on the radiator cap and that was his day. I would do a Load test to see what the bike uses for Amps for all the electronics (tester between the positive). Then you can do the math and see how much power it uses at low idle.
    Low RPM/Hard enduro you need a larger stator to get more charge at low RPMS to make sure everything keeps running, KTMs fans usuually will kill the starter, and then electronics/tpi/tbi pumps wont work etc. Also lithiums when they go too low and dead dead the BMS willnot let a charge happen.
    Happily The 21-23 Shercos have 180 watt stator with almost zero load from garbage electronics, and the Fans run at 170F and rarley turn off keeping the bike nice and cool with alot of buffer before you overheat the bike.
    Hope people dont get bit bad by 1st gen TBIs and dealers/KTM leave them to hang out to dry again.
    But dont worry that $1k GET ECU and $1k suspension will solve all the problems your $13k CAD KTM has. Brutal!

    Great video! Just to help educate some, all KTM’s, with the exception of the 50’s, come from KTM with Motorex’s Sport Max mineral oil in the engine. That’s both 2 and 4 stroke motorcycles and on and off road bikes. That is their “break in” oil. The idea behind it is with it not being as slick as the synthetic oil it helps rings seat in and everything kinda wear together a little harder than normal just where everything is new. That’s what KTM dealership services technician told me personally. Thanks for the awesome video!
