Love these old videos. My Friend Dad had one of these I remember. Boy she Looked sharp when he bought it home. We two boys drooled over it back then. He had it for as long as I remember.
The 305E was perhaps the toughest, most heavy duty gas engine ever put in a light duty pickup. Most Diesel engines today aren’t built as heavy as that V6 was and if you think that when the LS engine debuted in 99 it was ground breaking technology you’d be wrong. Compare the intake port design on the old 305 to the LS and you’ll see that there’s nothing new under the sun.
Man, would I love to have one of those V6 engines, preferably the 351 for the extra power. I already have a 250 I6 that is getting a lump port kit, intake & header upgrade to get the HP up around 180-190, which were 283 levels of power.
I got one but id never part with it. My dad used it on an irrigation and had it set up for propane. I still can remember hearing it running down on the river bank as I fished for catfish. Dad always said the vibration attracted the fish. I had taken the heads off of it like 20 years ago because it became stuck. I'm currently looking for parts to rebuild it. Hope I can find head bolts because I think some got misplaced. She sure is a lunk of cast iron. I get excited thinking about hearing it run again. 😆
Dad had a 1966 or 1967 GMC camper cruiser 2500 3/4 ton with 4 speed. We had a big truck camper on it and I don't know if it was a 305 or the 351 v6. It is possible dad got the 351 because he liked bigger engines. The station wagon we had was a 1965 country squire with a 352 4bbl
they did a 351", 379", 401", 432" and 478" V-6, the last being the largest standard production V6. It was superseded by the 637 V8 (same bore/stroke with 2 added cylinder)
I'm sorry. I looked but I could not find a answer on that website...I use to have 65 burb and it had tracks my 66 GMC burb has the same something it has the tracks.
I did not no Chevy made a 351 E engine,I'll tell you something i did see 1 time in the Philippines it was a Factory 5 speed on the column standard shift i think it was a Astro van probly late 80's early 90's,3 speed was the only 1 i thought was made and they always was sticking between 2nd and 3rd.
Chevy didn't make the 351 V6. That whole family of big block V6, V8, and V12 engines was designed and manufactured entirely by GMC. That was when each division designed their own engines.
The 352 was an FE engine same as the 390. We owned a 67 ford with that engine and I couldn't kill it. I tried. I believe the largest Y block was the 312
@@johnkendall6962ford made a 351 cid Y block for there truck models but i think it was for the bigger trucks F350 and bigger...i know you posted a yr ago i just saw this vid....
They over rated everything back then. The 305 v6 was 140 hp, 265 ft lb torque. Internals are massive including big bore so more friction, less power. Short stroke so less torque. The idea was to keep a massive flywheel rotating with an economical short stroke low rpm engine. Didnt work but they do last. My 5500 lb Suburban 4x4 gets 12 mpg empty and thats with 3.07 gears at 70 mph.

Just saw a video of the 702 v12, which is basically two of the 351s together. Brutal.
Our schoolbus in high school was GMC V6.It ran very good.Circa 1970
I had a 1967 G MC 4by4 three quarter ton with the 351e ENGINE it was a powerful brute of a truck and it had good ground clearance.

Absolutely true. The only thing new in the world is the history you don't know.
It's always evolutionary, not revolutionary.
What about the 409?
The only other light duty truck that used true truck engines was Internationals.

cool ive got a 68 1/2 ton with the 305e
It’s funny what was optional then and now standard safety, backup lights....😀
351 V-6.....is that the biggest V-6 ever in a American Light Duty Truck?!

Do you know if 60 to 66 Chevy Suburban seats fit in a 66 GMC Suburban?
Go to 67-72chevytrucks.com and do a search on the subject. We had a discussion on the subject with pictures.
