Thank you so much! I really appreciate it. :) Truth be told, I chose this fabric because it was the right color and it was on sale! I believe it is actually an outdoor upholstery fabric. It's a heavier fabric, for sure, but I found it held the shape and structure of the dressy nicely because of that! I believe this is actually the fabric I bought (although it looks darker in this online photo). www.joann.com/45in-home-essentials-print-fabric-solid-spa/12698007.html Hope this helps!
Okay but this entire tutorial was Very helpful and your dress came out incredible! Would you ever consider making a customized dress to sell? If so how much would you charge?
you put so much work into making this and it looks incredible! i hope you'd be able to join the next wave of press junket for the show and impress the cast & crew with this. they've been doing it as more and more episodes are out.
Sensible choice using a pattern, but some pattern instructions are just awful. I use to religiously follow the instructions, but I now only use them as a guide. Eg the latest 50,s style dress I sewed for the wife had me putting in the back zip last, after the front and back of the dress were sewn together. However it's so much easier to install the zip whilst the back is separate from the front, and you are sewing on the flat. As you gain sewing experience you learn these tricks. Happy sewing.
I can't wait for the sewing expertise to come with time! Patters have been helpful as I learn, but that always raise new questions for me! Thanks for the zipper tricks!
If you don't mind me asking, what fabric did you use. I'm trying to recreate the same dress and am having troubles finding the right fabric. Love the dress:)
I'm so happy to hear you're working on this dress, too! It's one of my favorites from the show. :) I believe the fabric I used is actually meant for outdoor upholstery projects -- it's definitely a thicker fabric, but I found it on sale and it was the right color so I couldn't pass it up. I did find that the thicker fabric helped to give the dress a nice shape and structure, though! I believe this is the fabric I bought from Joanns (but it does look darker than mine on this link): www.joann.com/45in-home-essentials-print-fabric-solid-spa/12698007.html. Hope this helps!
It's absolutely gorgeous 😍 do you know what type of fabric you used for the dress?
