- This is the first upgrade to the Azorius Artifacts build that is competitive in Historic on MTG Arena. We are building out an account from scratch. The account was started on August 1st and continues to build for us.
Last season, we got to Diamond Tier 4, but I am hoping to push it even further this month with new cards from Wilds of Eldraine (WOE) as well as some older cards that are staple thopters!
Join me and see how we build this out. My thought process as well as a few matches to see how it actually performs.
As always, you can find the decklist in this description as well as over at Aetherhub.com.
Enjoy!

Great to see the upgrade in action! I'd like to see you watch play it for longer to be honest. Would it be possible for you to, say, record a 1 hour long video where you play this deck? I'd really appreciate that. Cheers!
Definitely! I have some thoughts after further playing!!
So I have a lot to say about it.
Woo hoo! Stoked for this one!
Hope you enjoyed!
Deck is sweet. Metallic rebuke is a tricky one sometimes. At 34:22 you missed a land drop proc off of your ingenious smith.
@coffeestout I've really been enjoying the channel and overall game plan to stay out of standard and do your own thing in historic, which is a format I find more interesting as well.
I'm stuck between choosing to craft Dimir Ninjas or Azorius Artifacts, Dimir control looks really cool so I figured I'd already have a good land base if I went Ninjas. Would you happen to have any insight on which is the better choice? (or less of a struggle bus with Orcish Bowmasters in the shadows) I'm more than flexible to pivot to Dimir later. The wild cards are precious so I'm out here doing some field research haha.
Anyway keep up the good stuff!
Let me look into this after work. I'll look through the rarity level of each deck when they are fully fleshed out.
@@coffeestout No worries. I just figured you might know something off the cuff. What I like about Artifacts is the ability to seek cards which doesn't trigger bow masters if we do run into it. Dimir ninjas seems like it has to fight fire with fire and run bow masters itself.
Happy to see the upgrade! Personally I managed to fully bling out my own list after having saved a ton of gold in preparation for this set. I did go for Esper Sentinel instead of the cookie knight. Any specific reason you prefer Syr Ginger?
As for the protection you mentioned at the start, how do you feel about Skrelv, Defector mite? it doesn't phase your stuff so ensoul and glitters stay attached, and you can also make your creature unblockable to a single color as a result to possibly swing for a kill!! It does eat up more rare wildcards, though...
I really like Skrelv for protection... I just didn't have the wild cards, lol.
Esper Sentinel will definitely make its way into the deck as well, lol. Just a matter of time.
As far as why Syr Ginger? I like the scry as well as the pump when an artifact goes to the graveyard. It forces itself to become the target of spells... otherwise, you get tons of value. She isn't perfect, but definitely has some utility.
I can see a world where I put screlv in there... your logic is very sound, lol. Just need those wildcards.
@@coffeestout Oh yeah, don't get me wrong: I definitely see the value of Cookie knight. i just feel like Esper Sentinel provides even more so with either taxing your opponent or just letting you draw cards. Then again, it might be match-up dependant which one comes out on top. Sentinel definitally isn't too great against a creature heavy deck xD
@@GiantBelgian You are right. Sentinel is awesome... especially with Ensoul Artifact or All That Glitters. Eventually it will find its way into the deck.
Thinking about it... maybe I am guilty of trying to get a good thumbnail? Or just a little bit overexcited about the new cards?
I would say that being able to scry and draw is fantastic once we get both into the deck, lol.
I think you are right that Sentinel should have been first... the Knight has done well, but I think Sentinel would have been a bit better.
Glass Casket should be pretty easy to pick up in WoE draft.
Until then, Ossification should work while there are still basic lands in the deck, right?
I don't think there are enough basics to make Ossification good. And Glass Casket is already in the deck. I just moved it to the sideboard for the first match... though it does seem to find its way into the deck quite often, lol.
@@coffeestout Right, I get why you did what you did, but my version is a little different. I don't have any Glass Caskets yet. And I have more basics still than you do. I went 2-0 in a best of 3 against mono-black in platinum 2 or 3. Side boarding in Ossification was helpful. They don't have any 2 mana or less creatures, so portable hole came out.
@@DavidBaker42 You faced a mono black deck without any Orcish Bowmasters? Where can I find your matchups? xD
@@GiantBelgian I dunno. Next one was Orchish Bowmasters. Cleaned my clock. I'm thinking of Essence scatter, or something like that in the sideboard for them. Thoughts?
