Thank you for uploading this. What a joy! I am reminded that when I first heard Richter and Britten play K448, that I experienced an electricity that I had never heard or felt from this piece before. It was as though a whole other dimension of expression had been applied that was missed by all the others I had heard (try to) play it :)

I heard it this summer in Verbier during the masterclass of Andras Schiff. Well, not performed by the two giants but by the students, but it was extremely interesting to hear the comments and questions and witness the work on some episodes :)
    Thank you for sharing, Magrit!

Wow, I didn't know Britten was a virtuoso pianist.

Yes indeed Britten was a very fine pianist, a fact not universally known. One would have certainly needed to be a highly accomplished pianist to partner Richter of all people, Britten was also a superb accompanist in lieder and of course English song.

@@meredith218461 and in his own music. Regarding Richter, they were kindred spirits, what a pleasure to play together. I believe he wrote his piano concerto for him

Excuse me, concerto was dedicated to Berkeley, though Richter nailed it---

Shubert’s Arpeggione sonata with Rostropovich is another great example of how good of a pianist and accompanist he was. He was clearly thinking like the composer when he performed.

Out of human league, far beyond human reach. 😭 They are gods of piano and besides god of music may be on their side, Mozart.

This is breathtaking musicianship and incredibly exciting to listen to, but in terms of being totally spot on with crystal clarity and no fluffs Murray Perahia and Radu Lupu get my vote.

I have listened to Habler and Hoffmann before and I think that their recording is better than this one. In this one - andante is too slow and the final movement is way too rushed. The movements should be way closer in terms of tempo - such is the nature of this sonata, it has slightly repetitive nature, so you should not look for contrast, but a sense of unity throughout movements.

I'm not sure that the interpreter, given the repetitive nature of this sonata, shouldn't look for contrast. Entire pieces of music are composed of variations...I don't like to tell the interpreter how he has to interpret a piece on the basis of objective rules. I can only say that the result is more or less pleasant for me.
