Love the memories. Great player. Makes me sad and happy when watching this. Sad for reason that we had such a good team and played great football but happy that I got to see the three amigos play. 🍀🍀💚
Agreed. For me '95-'96 was the one that got away. If it wasn't for Goram and Gough virtually playing us single handed and somehow keeping us out in the Old Firm games that season, I'm sure we would have won the league. Only 1 league defeat all season but too many draws (3 draws with Killie!). But the football under Burns that season was outstanding - a joy to watch. '96-'97 was horrible. The sunshine and feel good vibes of the '95-'96 season after years in the wilderness completely evaporated. There was just a real dark cloud over the whole season. 4 Old Firm defeats. Great football at times but we were all over the place, and the players completely buckled under the pressure of trying to stop Rangers 9 in a row. The atmosphere at Celtic Park that season was so tense bordering on toxic - it wasn't nice at all. And that clearly filtered through to the team. But yes, we had such a great team with some great players around '95-'97 but won nothing. Such a shame - they would have wiped the floor with some of our recent teams.
I'm not Scottish or a Celtic fan. I'm a scouser and support Everton, but I do remember this lad at Celtic. Good player. Makes you wonder how much he'd have cost in this day and age, if he scored 80 goals in 203 games for Sporting...?!
It's the semifinal against Rangers that is always talked about when Farry's bitter and sinister intervention is discussed but it was the league games George missed that really wrecked that season. It truly was all hands to the pump to make sure the huns equalled our nine-in-a-row. Nice video, mo chara. 🇮🇪
I haven't watched this yet, i'm onnit. It's on the Watch later list.. Just thought, 'downfall of jorge cadete'? What a player Cadete was, he preferred keeping his balance and then scoring after a nasty challenge or two, on one of his blisterring runs. One of my favourite seasons, Tommy had us playing the beautiful Celtic way. Shame it was all rigged. RIP Tommy Burns 🍀💚 ✝👑🙏🏻 Edit: also subbed. I thought i was already?
A sad story. I've always found Cadete a total enigma. I think there were undoubtedly mental health issues, which weren't really handled properly (if at all) at the time, but I think there were other things at play. I've heard/read more than once that Di Canio was the real problem (don't get me started on Di Canio - I could write a thesis on how much I dislike the guy. Never liked him, even at the time). The story goes Cadete (Celtic '96-'97) and Van Hooijdonk ('95-'97) were both perfectly happy, until Di Canio showed up in the summer of 1996, constantly needling them, whispering in their ears and telling them "we're way too good for this team, we deserve more money, more limelight" etc etc. Within a year Di Canio, Cadete and Van Hooijdonk were all out of the door in acrimonious circumstances. Of course, we're talking about grown adults here who are old enough and (should be) mature enough to make their own life decisions, but if Cadete was as mentally fragile as is often made out, you have to wonder about Di Canio's influence on him. Cadete for me is also one of the great Celtic 'what ifs'. Of course, he left at the same time as Henrik arrived (their paths may even have crossed - I can't remember but I think Cadete may just still have been a Celtic player when Henrik signed in the summer of '97). A Cadete and Larsson partnership is a tantalising prospect. The '96-'97 season Cadete was absolutely electric - one of the greatest finishers I have ever seen in a Celtic shirt. And Larsson was.....well, one of the greatest players I have ever seen in a Celtic shirt. Together? That would have been an unstoppable partnership. OK we won the league that '97-'98 season, but I would rather have seen a Larsson-Cadete partnership than Larsson-Brattbakk or Larsson-Jackson! Perhaps though, the flip side of that is maybe Larsson and Cadete were too similar as players - build, physical attributes, pacy strikers, small in stature but outstanding in the air, who often played off the shoulder of the last man. Would they have worked together if they were so similar? And the million dollar question - if Cadete had stayed, would we even have signed Larsson? Either way, as I said, it's a sad story that really didn't need to end the way it did. Cadete must have so many regrets. And such a shame we didn't see more of him in the hoops - outstanding finisher, intelligent and jeez, he was lightning quick - I remember he was often caught offside basically because he was always so fast off the shoulder of the last man - the linesmen couldn't keep up. For me, judged purely on their Celtic careers - maybe he was the best out of him, Van Hooijdonk and Di Canio.
Who told you about Paolo making Cadete and PVH unhappy, telling them they were better than Celtic and turning them on TB? Sounds like the age-old Jock Brown-esque waffle to me. I personally know 2 former players that played with the three amigos, that are true Celtic men, and would be the first to expose anyone disrespecting the badge, fans and especially TB. They said quite the opposite about Paolo. The problems were started and ended at board level; McCann, Keane, Haughey, McDonald, Sheehy etc. The obligatory biscuit tin mentality cost us three of the greatest attacking players to ever wear the Hoops.
@@thebagelsproductions yes - probably for his own good he kept his politics quiet while he was at Celtic. I didn't know at the time either. What I didn't like about him was the fact he was one of the biggest ME ME ME! primadonna, badge kissing mercenaries I have ever seen in a Celtic shirt. No doubt an exceptional player, and carried the team at times, but he was a total individualist who had a tendency to completely overdo it and complicate things. The game that sticks in my memory was a 2-2 draw at home to Hearts - scoring a penalty then getting right in the faces of all the Hearts players and quite rightly getting a second yellow, while doing the obligatory badge kissing as he left the field. Completely stupid and unnecessary behaviour that cost us. Never had any time for him after that. And then there were the "leeetle problems" interview he did, and his comment when he joined Sheffield Wednesday about how he used Celtic as a "stepping stone" to the Premier League. A total erse, as far as I'm concerned.

So I understand that doesn't come across as convincing, especially when compared with your sources. But it's something I've definitely been aware of. Fair play, maybe it's not true, who knows - but I wouldn't be surprised. I always saw Di Canio as a great player, but.....a total mercenary troublemaker. Either way, as it turned out, we were better shot of Di Canio - time proved Fergus was right, as he often was.

Di Canio is a fascist. That gets overlooked too much for my liking. I didn't know that when he played for us, and I liked him at the time tbh.

He will still be remembered as a great player. I was at the game against Aberdeen - was magical.
Great again
My abiding memory of Cadete was a clearly biased linesman ruling his onside equaliser at shitpox offside
Another “honest mistake”
Watch this one about 45 minutes mark for an "honest mistake"

Brilliant striker lightning quick top finisher could have been as successful as larsoon ..
One most underrated strikers in the hoops in last 3o yr,pity he lost the plot
Georgie Cadete! He puts the ball in the net-ay! He's Portuguese, he scores with ease and Celtic are the champions once again.
"He's got hair like spaghetti"

Hair like speggiti was all I sung as a kid 😂😂😂😂😂
Still a player for the Celtic back in the day , it’s amazing what the fanny does for you when you have money 👍

Why did you swap the pronounciation of his surname around the 4 minute mark, to the real way to say it ?
He was well worth the hassle..

Bhoy Cadete was born wearing the Hoops!! His right foot turned into a lethal pitching wedge when he was 1 on 1 with the keeper!!!
Always cheated never defeated
