Kastmasters are maybe the most versatile artificial ever made. They cast a mile even into the wind, I've fished them successfully in various sizes for everything from freshwater trout to offshore, and they can be fished using nearly every type of retrieve known to man. When I'm on the surf and the onshore wind kicks up, the Kastmaster is my go-to.
I’ve used almost all of those lures but never from the beach. I surf fish using a high low rig with three surf rods. Next time I go I’m bringing my 7 ft rod to use these lures while I wait for a hit on my surf rods.
Thanks for the good information you’re a good teacher articulate which is nice nowadays I’m a Land based fisherman strictly salt water Boca Raton guy native take care good fission
The Kinemaster spoons gotta be the most versatile lure EVER made. The same lure has caught me largemouth bass in ponds in Oklahoma to rainbow trout out of rivers in Arkansas to Spanish mackerel in ocean in Seaside Florida.
I've been using a spoon, bucktail, and jigs, in the South Carolina surf where I live, but haven't been having much luck. I am getting the best results using a Carolina rig or hi lo rig with bait. I think my issue is my retrieve with these lures. How do I retrieve them properly?
I’m using a 9 ft surf rod that’s medium heavy. Do any of these apply to my rod if I just get heavier tackle? Was thinking of at least 1.5-2 ounces on my rod for tackle. Thanks!
9’ is a great length for the surf. Usually rods will have a lure rating on the top let you know the optimal weight that rod is designed to throw. With that being said, the shorter answer is yes, your rod will work great. Just get out there and give it a shot!
I love the Rapala X-Rap twitching minnow (mullet) SXRT 10 MU because it sits down 1-2 feet below the surface but you can still walk the dog. They come already fitted with single hooks, I change out all my trebles.
Hahah! I dang sure did, had to go back and check. Must not have been paying attention when i was putting all that together. Thanks for pointing that out.

For time of day, the only one that I think really makes a difference is top water. I generally will only cast top water in the morning, they usually don’t work as well in the surf later in the day. Every other lure can be used at any point, really just need to try them out.
@@tightlineshightides That's great dude. Thank you for the information, I am actually on the way right now to Key Biscayne to try out a new top water lure. Tides for fishing states its going to be good for fishing, and there is huge tarpon and pompano hitting the water right now. Thank you for the education.
You got it! Let me know how you do! I like to toss goofy jigs for pomp on light tackle (not top water). Tarpon will hit a wider variety in my opinion, but they are hard to catch with anything. Good luck!
haha. I wish... I am small potatoes here, no sponsorship yet... I do make small commissions on purchases made after clicking my links though. Not enough to quit my day job ;-) thanks for the view and comment
when i am throwing artificial my rod selection is lighter weight when compared to my bigger surf rods. My go-to rod for surf fishing with artificial is a 7'3" medium heavy fast action rod.
Thanks! I appreciate the view. The rods in this video are all ones that I built. The 1st one is a 7' 6" heavy action fast action rod that I built for walking the beach. Its on the bigger side for tossing large lures going after bigger species. Let me know if your interested in one, I can put you one together. For braid I usually run 20# most often. I find it the best all around size for most surf fishing. There are applications that I would go larger, but for 90% of my fishing its 20#.
those DOA shrimps are rigged upside down.. the hookpoint should come from the top, there is a hole that goes from the nose to the middle top part of the bait where the hook point should come out
Love the spoon! In just switched over to casting jigs a lot recently too which b are a ton of fun on the beach. I have va couple new videos on them, you should check them out
