Hey, Tim, you know what’s ironic that you kept worrying that something was gonna happen to Simba? I heard that originally Zira and the Outsiders were gonna kill Simba during the ambush scene. But the creators decided to delete it cause they didn’t wanna have a repeat of Mufasa’s death
No worries. I looked at the comments and you kind of didn’t mention seeing a lot of fan art on Kopa and Vitani. All you did was mention seeing Kopa only in books
I love the realism of Simbas overprotectiveness. She's not a good hunter because he never let her develop her skills propey in fear that she would get hurt
Agreed I remember when I was younger and I didn’t like Simba’s character in this at all. But over the years I’ve warmed up to him and can understand why he became overprotective and stern, it gives him layers and flaws which improve him IMO
About the death scene of Nuka, Zira’s “unimportant” son, it originally had an extended bit of cut dialogue from Nuka. He uttered his last words saying “well, I finally got your attention, didn’t I?” I honestly felt more sorry for Nuka at that point as he only wanted his mother’s approval.
@@juancarlosjerividal7382 Not sure if you saw a different version from the rest of us but the lot of us are familiar with no scene extensions regarding those moments because they weren’t fully animated in the final cut.
@UCpFE5poM33cCYtguaF54O6g Zira's death is edited for the final feature. But the few extra seconds of her blatantly refusing Kiara's help, even saying: No.... NEVER.... She has a deranged look and starts to smile. Kiara looks in shock and Zira lets herself fall. As how it is now, it's a bit more vague and you could make the argument that she slipped. But she still smiles while she falls. Disney just didn't dare to imply she straight up commited suicide. I still see it as suicide and it does make her the one and only Disney character to do this.
Simba’s Pride I feel is very underrated. While the original was pretty much a retelling of Hamlet, Simba’s Pride is a retelling of Romeo and Juliet. I like the new characters that were introduced. Even the villain is really great.
This movie gets hated because it’s a straight to Vhs/Dvd sequel but I honestly think it’s actually a good movie sure it won’t be as grand or spectacular as the Original but what other movie has achieved that
@@Sensei234 It’s not just the nostalgia, it’s the quality of animation, the unforgettable music, the wonderful characters, and the powerful story that makes the first film so incredible in a lot of peoples eyes.
I feel so bad for Kovu during "One of us".... my heart always breaks. Though that burn to Simba never being Mufasa is felt to the bone. I still go "ohhh" when that happens.
I feel more sorry for Zira and her pack that the expulsion happened in some way because of the Scar. Although on the other hand, Simba made a decision.
One of my favorite parts of "one of us" is when Kovu looks into the pond and sees Scar reflected back at him, while the chorus sings, “someone once lied to us, now we’re not so blind!” it’s one of the best scene in the film and sequence
I like the idea of the original being inspired by _Hamlet_ and the sequel being inspired by _Romeo and Juliet._ Also, "My Lullaby" and "Not One Of Us" are some of my favorite jams.
If you’re wondering why it looks like Zira is smiling when she falls into the rapids, it’s because in the original script, Zira willing let go of the rocks and chose to die rather than accept Kiara’s help.
I almost said this, you can find the cut footage on YT! Her quote "No.... never" que psychotic smile and she slips into the raging water and is crushed by logs.
I’m kind of glad they cut it. Suicide is too much of a heavy subject to include in a kid’s film so it makes sense that Disney abandoned the scene. While yes, 2004’s Incredibles which came out six years after this film did have a Suicide attempt, it was foiled and kind of played off in a satirical dark humor sort of way when the guy later sues Mr. Incredible for saving him
@@RYMAN1321 so…drowning, bludgeon by rocks and logs in a river, crushed to death in a stampede, being eaten alive, all that’s fine but suicide is too heavy?
Gotta note, the voice acting between the storyboard and the final are identical. It was probably fully animated, released in the earliest batch of DVDs, and cut from all the other releases afterwards.
In a deleted sequence Zira's death was darker. In the final cut when Kiara tries to help her, she smacks Kiara's paw away and accidentally falls, but in the deleted scene Zira looks at Kiara, says "No. Never!" and throws herself off the cliff.
I love this sequel so much, seeing Kovu's development from wanting to kill Simba to abandoning his own pride to be with the one he loves. The songs are amazing, the plot is fantastic. Also may Suzanne Pleshette rest in peace who did a phenomenal job as Zira Loved your reaction to this one Timotheereacts!
Agree, Rhino932 Toon. I’ve seen Kovu’s development during the movie. Besides, when Kiara and Kovu accidentally kiss, I think he started questioning about killing Simba or not
I feel like Simba was really overprotective in this movie. The line “If there’s so much I must be can I still just be me” in we are one, hits close to home because I grew up with very strict parents. I really loved you’re reaction to this movie
When I was younger, originally I wasn’t fully on board with his character in this either. I thought he was too much on the stern and overprotective side. But over the years, he’s grown on me in this film. After the unimaginable trauma he suffered in the original I can understand why he would be so overprotective at first to Kiara. After recently rewatching the film I now further appreciate him being a flawed character and showing he’s not perfect.
@@RYMAN1321 I wasn't fully on board with Simba, but for me it was more so with Kiara. She disobeyed her father like Simba did with his, but the difference was Simba actually respected his father and felt remorse for his actions. Kiara never did and continuously disobeyed him.
@@kgunitkeese17 I don't feel like she continuously disobeyed him. Kiara seemed to be in a more difficult situation as well because Simba was way more overprotected than Mufasa was. Like Simba sending Timone and Pumba out there to watch her hunt for the second time was a little over the top.
I have to agree with all of you on this. Simba was overprotective in this movie. And he even sent Timon and Pumbaa to keep an eye on Kiara. It’s almost the duo’s her uncles. And yes, not everyone’s perfect. Some have an overprotective side. And some have a softer side
Kovu and Kiara would be related if he was Scar's son, so instead he was made more like Scar's successor in spirit (or at least that was the villains' plan.) I really love this movie. As someone who had hard time doing basic stuff because of overly protective parents, I relate to Kiara (she has trouble with hunting.) I also found her a Disney princess whose struggles with being a princess actually felt very _real_ to me (probably because we directly see her having that issue even as a small cub and in a way that still makes sense to a child.) And Simba being an overly protective dad makes sense due to his past. And Zira is very interesting. One of my favorite Disney villains. It's never outright confirmed she was mates with Scar. Personally, even as a kid, I always thought she was like an insane fangirl who was just Scar's follower and not an equal, but she imagined them as a couple and the father of her kids. The funny thing is that she idolized Scar so much, but in the end Scar was cowardly and not even that strong. Like Zira could definitely beat him up if she wanted to lol. Also, in the original script, Zira committed suicide by letting herself fall into the water rather than let Kiara help her. You can still see her smiling when she falls in the final version of the movie. Personally, I don't think that would be _too_ dark, since Zira is already shown to be such a twisted character. And Nuka was originally going to point out that he finally got his mother's attention when he was dying, but that was removed to not give kids the impression that they should get hurt to get their parents' attention.
Best movie ever. This had the cutest love story ever. Perfect animation, new characters, a new villain, a new love story, based on another William Shakespeare story, and the unforgettable songs. I keep getting the upendi song stuck in my head. But the concept of this movie was better than the original. It just would’ve been nice if we saw Kiara and Kovu have cubs. It would be the perfect ending to this movie. But this had a good message. My favorite line is, “Look at them. They are us. What difference do you see?”
I wouldn’t say that. Scar was beating Simba’s ass like there was no tomorrow, a much younger, bigger, and stronger lion. If not for Nala teaching Simba the little flip trick, Scar would’ve ended Simba. Scar wasn’t Mufasa (then again who was) but he wasn’t a pushover when he was forced to fight, either.
@@phoebusapollo8365 to be fair, Scar didn't even fight Simba fair and square since he blinded him in the face with those burning embers/ash. He fought him like a coward. Also mind you, beforehand, Scar was running away from Simba like the coward that he is.
"My Lullaby" actually gives "Be Prepared" a run for its money IMO. It's a good sequel in that it keeps the darker aspect of power grabbers and old grudges. It was hard for me to actually connect this with the first movie when I was a kid, in the regard that you didn't see any rogue lionesses with Scar, just the hyenas. Later, I heard the story was after Simba took back Pride Rock, Zira killed what was originally his son, Kopa, and he banished her and her followers. This movie happened after all that.
Although for some reason I never liked this movie in childhood but I really binged the songs. However I did feel for both Kovu and Simba individually. You can see how hard it is for Kovu to get out of abusive household and how hard it is for Simba to forget his past cause he’s literally scarred for life. One cool detail I like is that how Kiara can’t hunt well because of being a sheltered child and how she can still run faster that Kovu cause she came from a well off family while the lions/lioness on Kovu’s side barely gets anything to eat so he’s kinda they are malnutrition and totally relay on raw strength for attack.
“Tears of pain, tears of joy, one thing nothing can destroy, is our pride deep inside, we are one” that line sticks with me to the day and it really speaks to the theme of the film, We are all connected, we are all apart of the “circle of life” no matter what we look like, where we come from, and a long as we understand that we are not alone and we are all together, nothing and no one can destroy or take that away from you I really enjoyed tis sequel, it does;t have the same budget as the original film but that makes sense and yet they did a lot with it that makes it great. I really like we are one, it says a lot about parenting and togetherness and etc it also shows that unlike Simba Kiara is more interested in finding her own way and not being part of some great system, only to learn that we all apart of the system and thus you cannot just not be apart of it later on as an adult I love Zira, she feels exactly like Scar’s type of woman and of course his successor in terms of villain status so consumed with hate and revenge that she cannot literally let go of that hatred the same way Scar couldn’t, and it destroys her like it did him in the end. The whole bit with nuka wanting his mother’s respect and attention because he wasn't seen as the chosen one, despite being scar’s actual son, is great and i like that Vitanni is the one who realizes that this is futile and changes sides.
I had this movie on VHS as a kid and watched it A LOT. It was the favorite movie of my childhood, I'm pretty sure. The songs and everything still heavily resonate with me to this day. And Kiara has always been, and still is, one of my favorite animated characters. I'm going to say that this here is the BEST Disney sequel ever made.
Agreed While it’s not quite as great or on a masterpiece level as the original, it’s a pretty worthy (DTV) sequel. It’s up there with King of Thieves, Return to Neverland, and Lady & The Tramp 2 IMO
@@RYMAN1321 Sorry. But I liked them at first. But the storylines were a little weird. Besides, the first Peter man was overatted. The only direct to dvd sequels I prefer is the lion king 2, the lion king 1 1/2, and lady and the tramp 2
This movie was actually really good and I am not even kidding, calling it a straight to Dvd sequel does it a disservice, not only are the songs great surprisingly, the new characters aren’t unbearable and Zira is an absolute great villain, ofc it will never reach the grandness of the original but nothing ever really will
There's just something about this movie. I think it's because I grew up watching this one more than the original, but it's definitely a comfort film. I also love Neve Campbell as Kiara.
The pridelanders were assholes when you think about it. Neither Simba or his court aknowledged that Kovu was actually good, even if he followed Zira's orders in his adulthood. Simba even got the two cubs and young lion banished to the land where there is litterally nothing, outside of few dead trees, termites and nests.
So glad you've done this movie Tim! Truly one of the best sequels that not a lot of people talk about. Really love the soundtrack in this and growing up, I always thought Kovu was really cool, with his edgy voice lol. Unpopular opinion: Their love song "Love will find away", I prefer more than, "Can you feel the love tonight". Anyways Tim , hope you're having a good day Tim, and glad to see you had fun visiting Disney! P.S. a little fun fact, the song in the very beginning, " he lives in you" , was actually meant for Mufasa to sing in the first movie. So in a way, having it here instead, this song was kinda a gift for her granddaughter.
Agree, JimmyX Wolvie. Love will find a way was popular. There’s a lot of covers on that Disney song. Not a lot of covers on can you feel the love tonight. But did you know that upendi is also a love song? But it’s like Robert guillaume singing it and all though it’s kind of cute, rafiki wants Kiara and Kovu to fall in love. But do you think rafiki caused them to fall in love or was it mufasa? And it had another love song in the lion king franchise. In the lion guard, the song’s called of the same pride. It has the same amount of covers as love will find a way. The song it is on, is in season 3 episode 19: Journey to the Pride Lands. At the beginning, there’s the love song. And it was the last one that animals sung for the whole season. I hope there’s a season 4 for it. I need to know what the future holds for the franchise
@@Jafuaforlife3246 great question, I like to think Mufasa was responsible for them falling in love. Very poetic honestly. Mufasa failed scar on being part of the family growing up, and so helping Kovu (aka Scars successor), became that second chance.
@@Jafuaforlife3246 You're right, that's a good one. But also tough, I would say...Kovu and Kiarra. I felt their chemistry more there, and more time was spent as adults and its interested learning from both sides of their lives. You?
There's another movie after this one) It's called "The Lion King 1½" It's basically the first movie, but from the Timon's perspective, and it's also the origin story of how Timon and Pumba met. It's a really fun movie)
The best Disney opening song ever. It’s sooooo underrated. To me, it’s a gospel song that I turn to god but to anyone it can mean anything. Love this soundtrack
In fact, they hired James Earl Jones for two moments. Simba's nightmare scene, then the part at the end when he says from the clouds "Well done my Son."
There was originally gonna also be a moment during the banishing of Kovu where Mufasa’s spirit would also reprimand Simba for the decision saying that he broke the circle of life
I remembered when I was a kid I'll roar along all of them in 24:32. Im gonna climb the table then roar like a fool, but in my head I feel awesome and feel like a lion 🤣. And repeatedly watching lion king 1 and 2 when I was a child and seeing scar and zira is what inspired me to always play a villain in a acting school projects or dreamed of playing if I was an actor 🤣🤣🤣
Probably the best Direct to Video sequel of the Disney Renaissance films! I loved it! Fun fact, the opening song He Lives In You was from the Broadway musical version of The Lion King and was sung during Rafiki convincing Simba to return to the Pride Lands after the time jump and showing him how he looks like his father in his reflection! Also the VA for adult Kovu is Max from A Goofy Movie :)
It’s among the best for sure. A few of my other favorites were Aladdin & The King of Thieves, Lady & The Tramp 2 : Scamp’s Adventure, and Return to Neverland
Love this movie, one of my favourites since childhood. And it has so many good quotes that we could all use in life. He lives in you is such a beautiful song, they even use it in the Lion King musical.
Only saw the whole movie from beginning to end once and I love it thanks for reacting to the movie. I love the ending so much gives me chills every time i hear those 3 words. WE ARE ONE
this will always be one of my favorite disney movies. I loved it so much when I was younger that I named my first cat Kovu when I was like 7 years old. I miss my bud everyday watching the movie is a trip down memory lane ♥
Lion King two Simba‘s pride is also one of my favorite linking movies growing up and I always thought of it being underrated, fun fact to know the voice of adult Kovu is the voice actor Jason Marsden, voice of goofy son Max and other great voices!!!!!
21:59 - 22:08 because it is the deadly pumba weapon and it is my part favorite of the movie when Timón threatens them with the deadly weapon and that makes the lionnesses run for their lives 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I find Kovu's sister Vitani interesting. She was all in with her mother but she did love her brothers and that's what swayed her. If this story was a book I'd like to see a more developed arc for her
Some of you may disagree with me on this, but the song “He Lives In You” is the best opening song in a Disney film. Edit: Matter fact, I like it better than “Circle of Life”
My top 4 favorite songs in this whole movie are "We Are One", "My Lullaby", "One Of Us" and "Upendi". Also, the song "He Lives In You" was plucked right from the Broadway version of The Lion King.
I can't believe it took literally years to notice the symbolism in Kovu being blamed for Nuka's death. "You killed your brother!". Fratricide. Just like Scar and Mufasa. Right after gaining his own scar, truly becoming like the lion who chose him to be his successor.
Unlike Scar, Kovu didn't killed Nuka, Simba put his paw on the legs and they eventually crushed Nuka. I still had the whole scene where he talked to Zira.
I'm aware, @@QueSeraSeraaaa. That's why I said "being blamed" for Nuka's death. It's all symbolic. Kovu never truly became like Scar. He just felt he did.
I feel like Simba gets a bit of a bad wrap on this film. People say that he just turns into a dick, but look at it from his view. Your uncle tried to kill you throughout, then successfully murdered your father, manipulated you into thinking it was your fault and forced you into exile then sent people to kill you again. You barely escape. When you decide to fight for your throne, you realise your uncle's run the kingdom into a point of despair and ruin. You manage to claim your rightful place and restore balance to the Kingdom. Sadly, there are some within your ranks to remain loyal so you exile them. Anyone would have serious PTSD and major trust issues after this. He'd have put up a lot of barriers so that he'd never be tricked again. I don't agree with some of his actions, but I completely understand why he does them
Agreed, and to be fair, he WAS correct in his initial judgement. A brainwashed Kovu went to the Pridelands fully intending to kill Simba. Luckily, he fell for Kiara and realised it might hurt his chances with her if he attacked her father. Then he got the chance to leave Scar's legacy behind. But of course, Simba didn't trust him, and who can blame him? Mufasa trusted Scar, and how did that work out for him?
The Lion Guard series takes place between the time gap in this film. And the final season takes place parallel with the movie’s second act. And the final 2 episodes are an epilogue to the movie.
Also fun fact that’s Neve Campbell from the Scream films as adult Kiara and that was the great Suzanne Pleshette (The Birds, The Bob Newheart show, Spirited Away) as Zira, this was Susanne's second last film as she died from cancer in 2001 after doing her final roles in Spirited Away.
Fun fact Ziras death was originally Zira saying never, meaning that she will never surrender to simba then she lets go and falls into the water with a smirk. But it was considered to dark. And sorry if I spell something wrong I am from Sweden.
Speaking of fun facts, here’s a not so fun fact; I heard that during the ambush scene Zira and the Outsiders were gonna kill Simba but the creators decided to delete it cause it would’ve been a repeat of Mufasa’s death
I like how this sequel continued the use of Shakespearean themes as they did the first movie. My personal favorite song of this entire sequel is “Love Will Find A Way.”
Agree. Which version was better? The movie version sung by Liz callaway and gene miller? Or the end credits version sung by heather headley and Kenny lattimore?
At some point Kion was born & was traveling to the Tree of Life when this movie was going on The proof is in Season 3 Travel To The Tree of Life in The Loin Guard
LK 1 and 2 are always fighting for 1st place in my rankings every time i rewatch them lol i love this sequel so much, criminally underrated, great songs too!
Good to know I wasn't the only one who was patiently waiting for Tim to react to this movie. But I'm still waiting for him to react to more barbie movies 🤨
I love the original, but I actually prefer this movie. The soundtrack is so freaking good & the movie is based on Shakespeare's play - Romeo and Juliet. Funny how you compare him to Zuko! I’ve seen a few great AMVs with “Not One of Us” with clips from Avatar which was where I first made the connection between the two of them. Creepy fact : During production of the first Lion King there was a disturbing scene between Scar and Nala and they had to cut it out because the directors thought it was NOT kid friendly and it was in't. There is the Story board version and an Animated version and The Broadway Lion King decided to put it in too........ And there is other really weird things like Vitani from The Lion King 2 some people believe that she is Scar and Nala's child because of the appearance of her. I don't know if you know Timothee, but Kovu shares the same voice as Max from a Goofy Movie/An Extremely Goofy Movie (Jason Marsden, a really talented and nice guy). Also, I absolutely love this film and it is one of my favorite Disney sequels ever. ✨💕
I know exactly what you're doing here, Eggman. You went to Knuckles because you knew he'd have pity on you and he and Sonic would fight about it, so you could go behind your backs and steal the Chaos Emerald!
The Lion King 2: Simba’s Pride is my number 1 favorite sequel film of all time! Also I love the fact that of all the straight-to-video Disney sequels, this one’s got the biggest cult following. PS, Zira is one of my favorite Disney villains
While I prefer the original movie, Not One Of Us is my favorite song from this entire franchise (and that’s including the Lion Guard series) and possibly from all of Disney
That one of us song hits. It's very sad but also the most emotional one out of the Lion King series in my opinion. I don't know why they made him not scar's son, thought it would have been better if he was
@@PsalmistScribe I don’t think the average viewer would assume Simba and Nala were related by any means unless they had a great knowledge about lions. And even then you don’t really get any hint of them being siblings at all. But for Kovu, especially due to how he looks so much like Scar the viewer could easily assume he was his son if not for Kovu’s line “he wasn’t my father but he was still a part of me.”
Fun fact: its implied that while Zira is fanatically loyal to Scar they never had a physical relationship and none of her children were fathered by him. It's also been implied by comments from the animators that Kovu being "chosen by Scar" had more to do with the fact that he looked like Scar (and Zira's insanity) since age wise the timing doesn't work for Scar to have met him before dying.
I am aware that some people think that Kiara was kind of out of line when she brought up her grandfather towards her father during their infamous argument, but she's right though. Knowing Mufasa's character, he would not had jumped to conclusions about Kovu unlike Simba. He knew that Kovu wasn't like the others and why he worked so hard to get Kovu and Kiara to get together and bring both tribes of lions back together. The plan did work out in the end after all, which again, shows the wisdom of Mufasa. Although in Simba's defense, its not hard to see why he didn't trust Kovu at all at first. Simba was trying very hard not to let his family go through the same thing he went through and its implying that he was trying to forgive his uncle. Of course, look it from Kovu's point of view too. He didn't ask to be Scar's... "chosen one." He was forced into his mother's ambitions for the throne and did what she told him. Glad that his sister and the rest of the Outlanders was able to see the truth before it was too late. Ironic part is that Kovu does end up fulfilling Scar's wish. After Simba, Kovu will become king.

Really ? Finally, I'm not surprise that was the original idea because she seems too proud to accept some help
It's on the books
@@kriscontents3248 I didn't know there was a book
Zira was on suicide the whole time. Did you not notice her attacking Simba? But Kovu was stopping them instead of hurting Simba?
Nossa quem não sabia disso
I love this sequel so much, seeing Kovu's development from wanting to kill Simba to abandoning his own pride to be with the one he loves. The songs are amazing, the plot is fantastic. Also may Suzanne Pleshette rest in peace who did a phenomenal job as Zira
Loved your reaction to this one Timotheereacts!
Zira’s death was actually gonna be darker considering she literally kills herself that’s why she has a creepy smile while falling
@@justsomeguywholovesberserk6375 Oh yeah, I remember seeing that somewhere. It definitely would one of the darkest Disney moments
@@justsomeguywholovesberserk6375 I remember that! That was creepy as hell
Me too.
Agree, Rhino932 Toon. I’ve seen Kovu’s development during the movie. Besides, when Kiara and Kovu accidentally kiss, I think he started questioning about killing Simba or not
One of the few actually good straight to DVD sequels of a Disney movie. I love this movie
SCAR: calm, manipulative, cunning & sly
ZIRA: violent, brutal, psychotic & vengeful
Kovu and Kiara would be related if he was Scar's son, so instead he was made more like Scar's successor in spirit (or at least that was the villains' plan.)
I really love this movie.
Getting hurt helped my mom pay attention. She's a controlling narcissist that is never satisfied
Yeah he wanted koval to take over because I mean can you imagine Nuka as King
Rafiki is the ultimate shipper, pairing the two together like that.
The "uppendi" song was actually surprinsingly great. ^^
Rafiki is wise
rafiki kno da way and rafiki kno da futur
I think it's interesting that Scar died surrounded by fire, while Zira died surrounded by water.
If only nunka died in zira’s place and vitani died in nuka’s place, could Zira instead have been redeemed the way ward Cameron was - Outer Banks fans.
And the surviving hyenas been the henchmen instead of these nameless lionesses, with Sarabi’s actress having lived to play her once again?
4:03 "Pumbaa! Let me define.....'BABY-SITTING'!" Had me dying of laughter because pumbaa is literally sitting on the baby! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Sean Griffin, there were rumors that Kopa’s still alive. There’s a lot of fan art videos of him and Zira’s daughter, Vitani together
Lol it made me giggle
"To out glorious return to powaaaarrr "
"But I don't want-"
"HUSH!"
Can we just appreciate how much of a Tank Simba looks here? King put on some Gains
“Tears of pain, tears of joy, one thing nothing can destroy, is our pride deep inside, we are one”
that line sticks with me to the day
and it really speaks to the theme of the film, We are all connected, we are all apart of the “circle of life” no matter what we look like, where we come from, and a long as we understand that we are not alone and we are all together, nothing and no one can destroy or take that away from you
I really enjoyed tis sequel, it does;t have the same budget as the original film but that makes sense
and yet they did a lot with it that makes it great.
I really like we are one, it says a lot about parenting and togetherness and etc it also shows that unlike Simba Kiara is more interested in finding her own way and not being part of some great system, only to learn that we all apart of the system and thus you cannot just not be apart of it later on as an adult
I love Zira, she feels exactly like Scar’s type of woman and of course his successor in terms of villain status
so consumed with hate and revenge that she cannot literally let go of that hatred the same way Scar couldn’t, and it destroys her like it did him in the end.
The whole bit with nuka wanting his mother’s respect and attention because he wasn't seen as the chosen one, despite being scar’s actual son, is great
and i like that Vitanni is the one who realizes that this is futile and changes sides.
I used to have this on vhs and played it a lot as a kid. Such a better message than the first movie. Zira's song lullaby still gives me goosebumps 😊
I still have it on VHS.
I just watched it while it was playing in the video store for free.
Same with 1 1/2.
Better message? The first was about accepting responsibility and not letting the past intervene with the future.
SAME HERE!!! I would play TLK2 on repeat too as a kid
The original was based on Hamlet and this was a Romeo & Juliette story.
I usually dislike the Disney sequels, but I really enjoy this one! Sadly a lot of folks don't know it exists.
Agreed
While it’s not quite as great or on a masterpiece level as the original, it’s a pretty worthy (DTV) sequel.
It’s up there with King of Thieves, Return to Neverland, and Lady & The Tramp 2 IMO
@@RYMAN1321 For your information, lady and the tramp 2 is not a bad movie. But king of thieves and return to neverland, why do they even exist?
@@Jafuaforlife3246 You don’t like them?
They’re widely regarded as two of the best DTV Disney sequels
@@RYMAN1321 Sorry. But I liked them at first. But the storylines were a little weird. Besides, the first Peter man was overatted. The only direct to dvd sequels I prefer is the lion king 2, the lion king 1 1/2, and lady and the tramp 2
This movie was actually really good and I am not even kidding, calling it a straight to Dvd sequel does it a disservice, not only are the songs great surprisingly, the new characters aren’t unbearable and Zira is an absolute great villain, ofc it will never reach the grandness of the original but nothing ever really will
It was straight to VHS.
@@rebeccamichael626 Yes but it feels like a disservice because Disney Sequels are seen as bad and it really undermines Lion King 2
During the 1990s and into its 2000s, Disney had to make a little cash. So then, direct to dvd sequels were born. And then one or two spinoff shows
There's just something about this movie. I think it's because I grew up watching this one more than the original, but it's definitely a comfort film. I also love Neve Campbell as Kiara.
Used to be obsessed with lion King 2😭
I've always loved the song "He Lives in You."
It's a really interesting character study to see Zira just refuse to be saved at the end like that.
In the song "He is not, one of us"
The line that says, "HE ASKED FOR TROUBLE THE MOMENT HE CAME"
That is so deep and chilling.
The song "Not one of us" fits Lucifer aka the devil
I believe “He Lives In You” was also written for the Broadway version which came out before this film.
I have a good question. And I’m sorry if it gets to personal. But which lion king couple do you ship more? Simba x Nala? Or Kiara and Kovu?
@@Jafuaforlife3246 You're right, that's a good one. But also tough, I would say...Kovu and Kiarra. I felt their chemistry more there, and more time was spent as adults and its interested learning from both sides of their lives. You?
There's another movie after this one) It's called "The Lion King 1½"
It's basically the first movie, but from the Timon's perspective, and it's also the origin story of how Timon and Pumba met.
It's a really fun movie)
Actually, the Intro Sequence was one of the funniest I’ve seen in an animated movie. Also, sending the biggest hugs and love ❤️
The best Disney opening song ever. It’s sooooo underrated. To me, it’s a gospel song that I turn to god but to anyone it can mean anything. Love this soundtrack
I always loved the french version zira's lullaby: "C'est mon chant d'espoir" the lyrics are even darker and the singer is a better voice.
I grew up with this one ^^ it's my native version!
i love my lullaby its better than be prepared
You got it exactly right they brought james earl jones back for two lines
Simba has ptsd from the last movie so i can understand why he did not trust the outsiders
Or Kovu for that matter
In fact, they hired James Earl Jones for two moments.
Simba's nightmare scene, then the part at the end when he says from the clouds "Well done my Son."
There was originally gonna also be a moment during the banishing of Kovu where Mufasa’s spirit would also reprimand Simba for the decision saying that he broke the circle of life
I can’t get over the fact that Ferris Bueller voices Simba
Yesssssssssss and also today is my mom birthday so thank you for choosing that movie
Rafiki the ultimate wing man
I remembered when I was a kid I'll roar along all of them in 24:32.
Simba's Pride and Cinderella: A Twist in Time are easily the best Disney straight to DVD sequels of that era. (That isn't saying much, but still)
Probably the best Direct to Video sequel of the Disney Renaissance films!
He lives in you is such a beautiful song, they even use it in the Lion King musical.

i literally can't pick my favourite between this and the first. the first is more "iconic" but this movie is incredible and soooooooo underrated.
If this story was a book I'd like to see a more developed arc for her
In "the Lion Guard", Simba makes her the leader of the Guard after his son leaves to marry the queen of the Night Pride.
Some of you may disagree with me on this, but the song “He Lives In You” is the best opening song in a Disney film.
Edit: Matter fact, I like it better than “Circle of Life”
"Pumbaa! Let me define BABYSITTING!!"
absolutely love the new song in lion king 2. "Deception, disgrace. Evil as plain as the scar on his face."
My top 4 favorite songs in this whole movie are "We Are One", "My Lullaby", "One Of Us" and "Upendi". Also, the song "He Lives In You" was plucked right from the Broadway version of The Lion King.
Me, after seeing the words ‘Simba’s Pride’: “Oh my God, not again with the Queercoding. Wasn’t Scar enough?”
@@ThallVic yep, and he wasn't aware of the truth about Scar.
I wholeheartedly agree with this comment.
The best Disney sequel in my opinion. I especially liked the soundtrack and some of the songs, in particular "He Lives In You".
That’s my favorite song from TLK 2. The others that have the same energy as the first film’s soundtrack imo are “My Lullaby” and “One of Us.”
The Lion Guard series takes place between the time gap in this film. And the final season takes place parallel with the movie’s second act. And the final 2 episodes are an epilogue to the movie.
Also fun fact that’s Neve Campbell from the Scream films as adult Kiara
and that was the great Suzanne Pleshette (The Birds, The Bob Newheart show, Spirited Away) as Zira, this was Susanne's second last film as she died from cancer in 2001 after doing her final roles in Spirited Away.
6:06 you really think that 😂😂
Fun fact Ziras death was originally Zira saying never, meaning that she will never surrender to simba then she lets go and falls into the water with a smirk. But it was considered to dark. And sorry if I spell something wrong I am from Sweden.
Yeah, Zira chose death. That means she can see Nuka and Scar in hell.
Speaking of fun facts, here’s a not so fun fact; I heard that during the ambush scene Zira and the Outsiders were gonna kill Simba but the creators decided to delete it cause it would’ve been a repeat of Mufasa’s death
I actually never watched the lion king 2 before I think this might be my first reaction with you timothee.
I like how this sequel continued the use of Shakespearean themes as they did the first movie.

While I prefer the original movie, Not One Of Us is my favorite song from this entire franchise (and that’s including the Lion Guard series) and possibly from all of Disney
Are we not gonna address the fact that Simba was getting his butt kicked in the ambush scene?
Little me thought he was gonna die-
That one of us song hits. It's very sad but also the most emotional one out of the Lion King series in my opinion. I don't know why they made him not scar's son, thought it would have been better if he was
It was to avoid Kiara and Kovu apparently being cousins.
@@RYMAN1321 Ok I can get that but does mean they made that distinction for the sake of kids? Becuse Simba and Nala are brother and sister ?
@@PsalmistScribe I don’t think the average viewer would assume Simba and Nala were related by any means unless they had a great knowledge about lions. And even then you don’t really get any hint of them being siblings at all.
But for Kovu, especially due to how he looks so much like Scar the viewer could easily assume he was his son if not for Kovu’s line “he wasn’t my father but he was still a part of me.”
@@RYMAN1321 I think you're right
Fun fact: its implied that while Zira is fanatically loyal to Scar they never had a physical relationship and none of her children were fathered by him. It's also been implied by comments from the animators that Kovu being "chosen by Scar" had more to do with the fact that he looked like Scar (and Zira's insanity) since age wise the timing doesn't work for Scar to have met him before dying.
6:25 I miss Mufasa too:(
I am aware that some people think that Kiara was kind of out of line when she brought up her grandfather towards her father during their infamous argument, but she's right though.
“Love will find a way” is one of my favorite Disney song’s
