Even if JJ ends up being a bust. Im still so glad we are taking a chance on him. To me it definitely seems like he has what it takes to succeed.
THIS RIGHT HERE! He's delivered when he was asked and he looks like a system QB that can take things into his own hands. He seems smart with the ball and has some decent footwork.

Followed this kid closely as a former UM athlete. He's hyper competitive. If you watch him it just oozes out of him & MN fans will pick up on this quickly. Has a little Brady in him - not surprising as Brady has only mentored and help train 2 QB's...Mccarthy and Sanders (Colorado). His teammates love him and leads by example, taking big hits, blocking down field etc...Still has hockey mentality. The Viks have gained many new fans due to this pick.
NFL QB w/hockey mentality? I love it!!! I would suspect he will be able to absorb hits a lot better than most NFL QBs

I'm not a Kirk defender usually, I too have my complaints but he was no wimp I'll give him that.
Certainly wasn't a wimp, he took more big hits than any other QB and just kept getting up. Played with damaged ribs and never missed a game.
Kirk was a wimp when it came to clutch moments. I'm GLAD he is gone! I don't want to hear about the Saints playoff win either. Blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while.
what's tough for me is I'm an avid Buckeye fan and an avid Vikings fan. I wanted Drake Maye because I still think with the right coaching he has a higher ceiling, but JJ Mac was my second choice. I have to put my feelings for him as a Wolverine aside, because he's now a Viking.
I have a similar (but reversed situation). I'm a Vikings fan here in Utah, big Utah State Aggies fan, which is where Jordan Love played college ball. Now he's on the stupid Packers....💀
Drake Maye is going to get someone fired. The guy went 8-4 Against sub par competition. The fact that JJ destroyed OSU for 3 years should have given you a clue that Maye is not in the same universe as JJ. Maye had been playing group of 5 level ball and JJ lead his team to a Natty

Didn't write this before the draft because I didn't want to let the cat out of the bag. JJ McCarthy is the second coming of John Elway. See's and plays the game just like him. Both 6'3", both have a cannon of an arm. Both stand strong in the pocket until it's time to leave with an explosive first step. Both run like a deer and throw on the move with balance. They couldn't defend Elway and they will not be able to defend McCarthy. All he dies is win and it's not going to stop at the pro level.
