I have a 2009 5.0 with the single point drain and it worked fine until last year when I had a freeze despite pumping propylene through the engine. Luckily for me the freeze out plug popped out and prevented the block from cracking. My mechanic said I should have drained the port and starboard sides even with the single point drain system. Mud and whatever else blocked the water from draining just by using the single point drain system. Could have been an extremely costly mistake but luckily only cost 400 to get the freezeout plugs put back in.

You are supposed to open the thermostat drain plug within seconds after opening the single point drain system that is written in the mercruiser service manual and it must be done

@@nickvillalpando8616 it is a blue colored twist plug on the thermostat housing, assuming you have a MerCruiser 5.0 MPI

I just purchased a brand new Mercruiser 5.7 MPI Alpha. It did not come with the single point drain system. Anyone know why they may have discontinued it’s use? Point of failure? I considering adding it.

How many small blue drain plugs on this drain system?
Also, any oil change videos on this motor? Your motor with oil filter location has zero videos on RUclips.
