What if you just sprayed white cabinets (2 coats oil primer, 3 coats acrylic), and someone gets dark oil based floor stain splatter on a couple doors? Is it better to sand and respray the fronts? They are small spots but should I worry about too many coats and will the color match all the others I just painted?

    THANK YOU FOR THIS! 👏🏻
I sand with 150-180 wipe down; let surface dry completely
Then paint with a soft angle brush then after 30 secs or so I lightly roll over the painted surface with a clean dry FOAM roller
    and repeat between coats
For me, this method gives me pretty nice smooth finish with no brush strokes.
It’s obviously NOT as smooth as sprayed on finish but it’s much nicer than brushing it on plus I avoid setting up the paint sprayer which saves me tons of time when painting stuff like trim or casing.
I’m not by any means a professional.
I’m just a DIYer always looking for the next best way (I very recently remodeled my 20yr old kitchen). 😉👍🏼

How do I repair chips and scratches along the bottom edge of cabinet drawers and doors. A neighbor kid drove through my kitchen with a hoverboard which was just the right height to screw up the corner edges of my cabinet fronts all along my island. I can feel the damage with my fingers, but when I kneel down I see it. What do I do? Do I need to fill these in and sand edge straight before painting. This is a brand new kitchen! Help!

Lacquer is not a color. It's an actual product; a natural substance diluted to be applied as a finish.

I have a couple touch-up questions. First my bathroom cabinets have a few really small blemishes here and there, but they drive me crazy - and that’s because the cabinet is gray and there appears to be a white primer beneath. So, they standout because of this. I just bought my house so I don’t know how to best match the gray paint. In my kitchen, the cabinet doors beneath the sink have chipped and pealed paint on the top edge. I feel it’s because the paint doesn’t like water, which seems counterproductive with these being kitchen cabinets with a sink. I can see down to wood, what method and products would I need to repair this?

    • @irabaker907
      @irabaker907 2 года назад +4

Aaron, the best way to match paint when you don’t know the original color code is to remove a door and take it to your local paint shop. Sherwin Williams, Benjamin Moore, etc will be able to scan the color and give you a *pretty* close match. I emphasized pretty because it may be 95%, not 100%. However, it should be close enough for touch ups.
On the drawer front where your paint is peeling, the best solutions would be to sand down the area where the paint is peeling. Make sure to get to an area where the paint is firmly bonded to the wood, otherwise your problem will continue. You then need to prime the bare wood again. After the primer has dried, sand with very fine grit sanding block and smooth the primer out. After this, you will be able to apply new paint to the wood, and hopefully prevent the problem from getting worse.
Also, make sure to check if you have an oil base paint or water based paint applied to your cabinets. If it is oil based, you will NOT be able to use a water based paint on it. To check, just dip a cotton ball in some acetone. Swab a part of the paint on the cabinets, if the paint comes off, you have water based paint. If it does not, you most likely have an oil based paint. Hope this helps.

I've seen your video on how to spray cabinets and it's very good. Do you have anything on how to paint cabinets without a sprayer? Possibly with a brush and foam roller? I'm thinking about tackling my kitchen cabinets and could use any help or advice I can get.
    Thanks

    • @angelicoutcry3478

Steve spraying results in the most professional finish possible. With that said if you're still adamant about taking this project on get the finest paint brush and smoothest finish nap for a 6" zip roller you can get. I personally don't recommend a foam roller for someone without experience with them as uniformity issues can occur has different pressures are placed on the foam roller nap. The use of a paint extender is an absolute must for the best results with this method.
