I told Colon that he needs help. He's got an axe to grind with Black Americans. He's very dismissive of Black Americans contributions to music. If Puerto Ricans had 50% creation hip-hop , then why haven't they excel in other genres and set trends that others follow ? They emulated Black Americans. Hip-Hop doesn't have roots in his parents music. Notice he always clears his throat before he speaks . That's appears to be a tell.

The Jubalaires have the same rhythm and pattern. Puerto Ricans can’t show this in the 30s because they didn’t have the same rhythm. PLUS, what happened to all of their Innovation? They haven’t created anything, they’re STUCK in the 70s still trying to steal that era they’ve NEVER created in the first place.

The African drum/conga played in the South firstly.
African Square in New Orleans especially after the liberation of Haiti.
The African Geechee Gullah people of South Carolina kept their African culture playing African drums Conga variations or otherwise.
Him saying the Conga drum was invented in Cuba is like saying that Martin Cohen invented Latin drummlng.😅
The black Puerto Ricans from the island of Vieques who played the Bomba, we're hated by the white Puerto Ricans who used the drums for entertainment.
    The Bomba
drum shell drum being a barrel use for the making of the rum, is where the white Puerto Rican feels missing out and not being the originators of any of those African rhythms that made Latin salsa music.
I can see why the Cubans an Puerto Ricans used to fight so much. I'm a 60s New Yorker.
The Cubans would always tell the truth where the rhythms came from,
the white Puerto Rican would not.
That's what the whole Latin Concert was about at Yankee Stadium in the 70s. Who was going to claim salsa,
the Cubans or the Puerto Ricans.
    Ray Barretto against
    Mongo Santamaria.
Cuba understood its African ancestry and wanted to be independent. And they fought for their freedom led by that African conga drum.
Puerto Ricans wanting to be like white Americans continue to be a commonwealth of America.
Colon is like a Jew that's trying to claim a Heritage that is not
    theirs.

Great video; no lies told! The thing with Colon/Crumb Crew is that actual Puerto Rican music/dance, plays/played no role in their Nuyorican culture. Nuyorican music/dance is a mixture of FBA music/dance + Afro-Cuban music and dance. This is the reason they keep distorting/fudging AfroCuban culture and/or instruments (timbales, congas, bongos etc..) into a homogenous "Afro-Caribbean" bubble because they see this as an IN to THEM (Ricans)claiming FBA influence (Funk breaks) as "Latin" because they/we've heard FBAs playing one of those instruments on a Funk/Soul/Disco song.
The second thing is their want to disconnect "NYC" urban music/dance/slang etc.. culture from its actual Southern FBA Roots. They attempt this because everyone knows all the musical/dance precursors originated/came from the South and the receipts can be provided with relative ease.

I noticed that hip hop Puerto Ricans dancers from the Bronx doesn't mean or shouldn't include all Latinos in the discussion. It was isolated to only those dancers . Those dancers were apart of hip hop but their extended race has nothing to do with hip hop.
Hip hop as a culture was created to reject white ideals of acceptance, beauty, fashion. Hip hop stood for doing the opposite of the norms to protest white standards of society . So the culture flipped everything upside down in lingo and how we wore clothes. We made the opposite cool . No latino who claims white could of created this opposite universe .
Also hip hop was created to teach revolution, the teachings of Malcom x , Marcus Garvey, kemet , problack . But has never formed a real revolution because Commercialized non growth for decades . Hip hop is only good as it's teachers.

They’re just culture vultures. So James Brown wasn’t rapping in the 60’s? What about Curtis Mayfield on Pusherman in 1972? The origins of rap comes from the south. The great migration brought most African Americans north. It’s Jive talking. The Last Poets. FBA radio DJ’s rapped!! Dolemite!! Cab Calloway The Jungle King!! I was born in Cuba. We love our African roots but please don’t call us Afro Cubans. We are just Cuban. Americans try to divide my people the same way their country is divided. We are not obsessed with skin color. Our skin comes in all colors and shades but we are Cubans.

    • @AKiEM.
      @AKiEM.  5 месяцев назад +10

Sorry, but using the term 'Afro-Cuban' is not an American (US) racialization or view point. Aside from speaking about cultural traditions and effects (drums) the term is academic. And aside from that, I know Fidel declared racism finished but then had to imprison and exile Black activists for protesting racial disparities which are even more present to this day than they are here in the us.
Now, I used to believe Cuba had 'done away' with racism until I visited (on various occasions) myself and witnessed all sorts of anti-Black racism. And was pressed upon by plenty of 'Afro-Cubans' that they were indeed Black people and seen themselves alike to Black Americans (us). In fact I was literally told they are "Black American" as the island is part of America.
If you want to show otherwise or make a case, I will certainly listen to your claims, but it will be pretty difficult to overturn what I have been told by Black Cubans and what I have experienced with my own eyes on the island.
