Vince McMahon Jr. Didnt create WWE from nothing. But what he did do was grow WWE to a national and international brand. Wrestling promotions were regionally based when Vince McMahon Sr. was running WWE, which was New York/North East only.

It's also worth pointing out, for the benefit of those who aren't aware, Vince wasn't GIVEN the business, he had to buy out his dad as well as the other shareholders who each held some partial ownership of what was then known as the WWWF, with the stipulation that if he missed a payment, they (Vince Sr. and the other shareholders) would regain ownership immediately. Of course, we know that didn't occur, Vince was successful, but that success wasn't easy and sure as hell didn't come easy.

Actually it was AOL coming in and changing WCW, they dropped all the edgy stuff and chair shots, and realism, sexual stuff, blood. TNT and TBS wasn't interested in pro wrestling anymore they wanted to put on sitcoms and television series, and scripted television.

You didn't quite get what they were trying to say with creative control. I know a lot of artists in the entertainment industry get screwed over by their managers and/or the corporations they end up working under, with really bad contracts that don't allow them to be as creative as they want. But that's not what this video was talking about. They were talking about the wrestlers abusing their creative control, so that they could protect their spot at the top of the card.

Vince McMahon didn't create WWE from nothing but he didn't just inherited it from his father, we first created a company named Titan Sports and a couple of years later Titan Sports bought the World Wrestling Federation from his father, but he did it taking loans and with his own money. After that he soon started to buy other promotions or their TV spots until only Jim Crockett Promotions, aka NWA Mid-Atlantic, was pretty much the only one left because other territories affiliated with the National Wrestling Alliance had disappeared or merged with it. Turner Broadcasting bought Crockett Promotions and renamed it Works Championship Wrestling in 1988 WCW wasn't much competition for the first few years but in 1995 they started a new show called Nitro that went head to head with WWF's Monday Night Raw. They even beat Raw a few weeks here and there at first, and when they lost it was very close. In 1996 WCW signed Scott Hall and Kevin Nash and staged an invasion, but not exactly from WWF, then Hulk Hogan, who had left WWF in 93 and debuted in WCW in 94 joined them and they forked the New World Order and they beat WWF in the ratings for 83 weeks straight. In 1998 the tide began to change, WCW expanded the NWO angle way more than necessary, the stories weren't good and Raw started to pick up a few victories with guys like Stone Cold, The Rock, Triple H, Undertaker and Mankind leading the chargeand by the end of the year they were firmly ahead. 1999 and 2000 were great for WWF and awful for WCW and Nitro lost every week in the ratings for some 2 and 1)2 years until Vince McMahon bought WCW in March 2001. A few months later WWF tried to do an invasion story mixed with McMahon family drama but it wasn't really great, although it did excellent business, and WWF in the end obviously won. After that, Gince brought the NWO back and debuted it in the WWF but they lost at WrestleMania and not long after that, the NWO was disbanded for good and that was absolutely the end of WCW for good.

The video is incorrect about how Vince got WWE. He had to buy it from his father, which is something that Vince was very big about discussing. He bought the company for a little over a million and would turn it into a multi-billion dollar corporation. Also, Vince, Sr. did not control a company that was racking up millions annually. It was a relatively successful company but they only had territorial television rights until Vince, Jr. took over.
That said, you ask A LOT of questions. Far too much for everyone to cover here, mostly because you'd see a novel rather than a comment, lol. But most of the answers can be found in video form or online, so you'd just need to search those directly.
I'd also recommend that you watch the current shows for WWE, AEW, etc. Which might help you figure out some of the current stuff too. It is likely harder for fans to go over the stuff going on now because it's still ongoing. The past stuff is easier to cover because you can just reference a few important things about the overall subject. Seeing current shows could prevent you from being lost, especially when it comes to the current generation of stars. Some people say "well I don't know when the best time to start is." It's right away, seriously. Stories and wrestler evolution happens every week, all year long. There is never a perfect time to start watching.
You just need to search for the shows and network they are on in your country. WWE is most certainly going to have shows you can see all over Europe.

Look we all hate Vince for multiple reasons and they're all understandable. But the one thing that always bothers me is how everyone simplifies how he gained control and his childhood as well. Vince didn't grow up with his dad. His dad in fact straight up abandoned him as a baby. He actually had a tough childhood. His mom married an abusive alcoholic. And Vince wasn't just handed WWE by his dad. Vince had to use his own money to buy it. This is something that I think every wrestling fan needs to know. Not because it will make you sympathize with Vince but to understand him.

Is AEW following the possible same path as WCW? Well
    1. The CM Punk Issue caused the inmates to run the asylum in AEW
    2. With CM Punk gone from AEW Their attendance has dropped tremendously
    3. They have waaaay more older talent than young talent
    4. Their Womens division isn't strong compared to WWE's women's division
    5. Tony Khan wants "Friends" more than actually managing a company.
    6. Punk already proved that Tony doesn't truly have what it takes to run a wrestling company
    7. There are AEW superstars that really want to jump ship and return to wwe like andrade and Miro, (could be a few more but i can only think of 2.)
    8. WWE just rehired punk what would have been AEW's BIGGEST draw.

Actually Vince was very poor and didn't know his dad until he was like 12 and his dad never just gave him free money. He wanted him to work a normal job first because his dad was all about hard work and being a man. He did eventually give him a job in his company which at the time was called the "WWWF" which is how Vince got involved in the business. When Vince's father retired he didn't just give the company to Vince. Instead he made him buy it from him for a million dollars that he would make from promoting shows in the New York territory and he had one year to pay it all back to his father and the other shareholders or else the company would have been taken back from him and given to one of the shareholders instead. He paid them back and became the owner of the company in 1982 then shortened the name to the "WWF". Then he started undercutting all of the other territories in the US and Canada and purchased all of their top stars so he could put them under and buy them out. Thus nearly monopolizing the industry until the only last main holdout of the old days was WCW.

Because it had everything which is now missing from wwe. Wwe nowadays feels like a product produced for kids and especially the TikTok generation which is something that I can’t find any connection to. Everything feels so child friendly and Disney like that it’s unbearable for me to watch. I would say that guys CM Punk and Randy Orton still carry on the oldschool spirit which is why they are so loved. Tbh WWE didn’t have anyone with the starpower of the Athletes back then in a while besides some exceptions. It’s not because they couldn’t be such stars, it’s more I think because they are so creatively restricted by contractors.

Vince taking the WWF / WWE national is not as clear cut as many make it out to be. If you listen to the modern WWE narrative Vince built everything from the ground up, which he didn't. If you listen to most of today's "smart" fans Vince was basically a trust fund kid, which he wasn't.
Vince Sr. had one of the most profitable territories in wrestling and Vince Jr. built on that and took it to a national level. He also had to buy the company from his father (and/or had to buy out his father's business partners, I don't remember clearly) and had to gamble on the success of the first Wrestlemania to pay off his loans. So the truth is somewhere in the middle with this.

No, if you know the story of Vincent Kennedy McMahon (the Vince that is in WWE right now), his father Vincent James McMahon was very distanced from him Vince Jr. Vince Jr. was raised by his mother and bunch of stepfathers, one of them, Leo Lupton, even attacked Vince's mom and him at one point and he didn't met his father until he was 12. And Vince came from the bottom all the way to the top. His father didn't want him to be in the business, as he didn't think that he had what it takes to be the promoter. And originally Vince wanted to be a wrestler himself, but Vince Sr. didn't allow him to do that. So he worked as commentator since 1971 until 1997 (so yeah, he worked as commentator for a very long time even after he became the boss when he bought WWF from his father in 1982).

Actually Vince was dirt poor when he got WWE from his dad. When Vinces dad owned WWE, he ran it as a local promotion, meaning it wasn't very profitable. Vince had the ambition torn turn it national and later international, which is how Vince made his money. So, while he dud inherit WWE from his dad, it was Vinces genius that turned it super profitable

Vince's dad owned WWWF (World Wide Wrestling Federation), it was a successful company, created superstars, but it was restrained by a rule between all wrestling promotions, all wrestling promotions had their territory and respect their borders, but once Vince dad died and left him the company, he changed the name to WWF (World Wrestling Federation), and broke the rule that every wrestling promotion had, and started promoting WWF in their territories, making WWF a nationwide wrestling promotion, which led WWF to be the biggest wrestling promotion there is.
Now, you may wonder, why is not called WWF anymore and instead is called WWE? well, the WWF (World Wildlife Fund) sue them, and won, so Vince had to change the name of the company to WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment).

16:38 I think you got the video's point wrong. What it's trying to say is that the wrestlers had TOO MUCH control over their own storylines, so they were constantly putting themselves in the best positions without much thought and leaving the smaller and lesser known names at the bottom of the ladder, and that system never allowed much opportunity for any new talent to be featured because those big names didn't want to let go of their fame and money.

  • @williambanks2223

Vince bought out his dad when Vince Sr. Wanted to retire. He suggested not breaking the territories but Vince Jr. had other plans. Also, WCW announcing that Mick Foley won the world title backfired because most of the fans switched over to see it happen. When Paul Wight was talking about starts getting paid more than him when he was champion, he was talking about people like Hogan, Nash, and Hall.

When Vince took over the WWF from his father it was done on a payment installment basis over a period of time. He didn't pay all the money in one go, he paid installments over a year. Vince almost faced bankruptcy and it was the success of Wrestlemania 1 that kept his business alive (plus the 1 million dollars he got from Jim Crockett for the Georgia timeslot)

7:13 - that was... how to put... THE BIGGEST mistake WCW ever made when they were spoiling results. WCW Nitro lost over half a million viewers after the spoilers as Mick Foley was loved by wrestling fans for his willingness to work in any circumstances and he took a lot of punishment because of that. He lost his ear in WCW (while on tour in Germany, btw), he was thrown from the Hell in a Cell... TWICE at the same night. He fought in Japan in death matches... I mean, Mick was a crazy bastard.

It's interesting to see how the NWO was running things and had so much creative control, one of the main reasons for the fall of WCW, where many of the main guys in the group were also part of the Kliq in WWF and who did the same things there before they left. When those kinds of wrestlers with too much control change things to keep themselves on top, it hurts everyone in the company because the quality of the product suffers. Ironically, them trying to remain on top to make more money, was something that cost them money in the long term when the company died. It makes you wonder if the Kliq had remained together and gained more control like the NWO had in WCW, if something similar would have happened to the WWF.

Vince sr had WWWF. Before it was called WWF or WWE. Vince Sr had his own territory back when territories existed. Each city had their own company and it was an unwritten rule that you can't run your show in another town because that would be considered sacrilege. When Vince sr passed on the company to Vince jr. Vince Sr told his son not to compete with the other promotions. Vince ignored that and just started doing his own thing and pissing off every promoter. Vince jr would then go on to steal talent from different territories. To say he was America's most wanted man is something to say too. Cause people wanted him dead. But he then had the last laugh because of his tactics. The man knows how to make money.

In terms of eras, I'd say ruthless agression and the era now (the Renaissance era) is the best eras. RA and Renaissance had consistent viewers, more of a stacked roster and more stars.
    Attitude had
    Shawn
    Taker
    Stone cold
    Rock
    Triple H
    Kane
    Jericho
    Bret
    Ruthless had
    Cena
    Orton
    Batista
    Lesnar
    Guerrero
    Mysterio
    Angle
    Booker T
    The hardys
    E&C
    Dudleyz
    Now its
    Roman
    Seth
    Sami
    Cody
    La
    Gunther
    Rhea
    Bianca
    Iyo
    Asuka
    Becky
    Sasha
    Liv
    Dom
    Judgement day
    The usos
    Solo
    Gable
    Jade
    Logan
    Shinsuke
I could go on but the attitude really struggled despite relying heavily on stone cold and rock

Not sure what that guy is on-JCP/Mid Atlantic was not a small promotion, it was huge. It was Ted Turner who came up with Nitro to go head to head with Vince, not Bischoff & Bischoff's success was seeing an angle in Japan doing huge business, that itself was a copy of another Japanese angle from the early 1980's with Inoki. Vince Sr started up & ran WWWF for decades-Vince bought him & his partners out in 1982 in installments -but he had to agree that if he missed even one payment to them that the company went back to them & Jr lost all his payments.
WCW/ TBS were incompetent right to the end-telling everybody a world title change was happening on Raw, while putting on the worst show ever with Goldberg being arrested for sexual harassment that never happened, the finger & getting beaten down & sprayed to end the show. Then Vince bought the entire video archive, trademarks etc for a stupidly low price.

What is the mistake AEW is making? Its run by a guy who thinks he's a wrestling expert even though he's never been in the wrestling business before. To be fair, they aren't even trying to compete with WWE. Its a rich kid burning through daddy's money completing a novelty project. Its not about growing or making money. Its just an independent wrestling company with billions of dollars to burn through

the main reason for wcw's faliure is that they had a great idea and run with the NWO and then had nothing to follow it up with, they kept trying to reinvent the wheel while the WWf/WWe kept putting on a constant story that you could easily follow and had the best in ring wrestlers and promos ever wcw buried the cruiserweights in favour of drama and allowed back stage drama to be more important than what the fans came for, wrestling
