    Ahsoka broke open the right side of his mask, Obi-Wan broke open the left side. Both couldn't bring Anakin back, but Luke was able to completely take his mask off, bringing him back to the light. Very poetic.

      And I understand now how Obi Wan could not believe that Anakin could never turn back to the light side. He truly thought Anakin had been consumed by evil and was dead while Luke could still sense his father's feelings and conflict. But that's the beauty of that conversation though, Obi-Wan sees Anakin's burnt face, he apoligizes for it but Vader does not blame him. Vader if anything takes the burden that weight on Obi-Wan through all this series, through all this time after Episode 3 away from him by telling him "he's not his failure", that he killed Anakin. And in a way, "from a certain point of view"...that's true. Anakin made his own choices, the wrong ones. He's responsible for his own faith. And one can even question if he's saying this proudly to Obi-Wan, or if somewhere down deep, Vader is openly telling Obi-Wan the fault is his.

    I feel like Vader telling Obi-Wan that he didn't kill Anakin, but Vader himself did, is the closest thing to kindness that Darth Vader is capable of now... whereas before he used Obi-Wan's regret and sorrow as weapons against him, à la "I am what you made me", he now finally allows Obi-Wan to let go of the guilt of having failed his best friend.
    Obi-Wan did everything he could for him, but Anakin's choices made it impossible to save him... and deep down, Vader knows it. It was never Obi-Wan's fault.

      Anakin's hunger for victory doesn't allow himself to give Obi-Wan credit for killing Anakin. Also, since he survived the duel, Technically, he was right. Vader killed Anakin. Which as of a New Hope, made Obi-Wan's chat with Luke correct...from a certain point of view of course.

Look at the obi-wan in this series and compare him to the obi-wan as padawan of qui gon. Two completely different people. He was a cold, detached person then, and when anakin was at his most vunerable, he did not respond w/love and understanding. When anakin dreams of his mother being killed, he blows it off....wtf?? For me, I look at that part metaphorically. Vader is, literally, attempting to bury the past. Making his old master sink below and be crushed under his hate and rage, but it just doesn't work. He still held some respect and love for his old master deep down in the Anakin part of him, but you can see via the lighting when Vader fully suppresses any love he had for Obi Wan, as the red glow fully bathes his face, and the blue glow of Obi-Wan's lightsaber fades from his own face, representing the hope he had in saving Anakin fully fading away. Him leaving, is him giving up on Anakin, and realizing Darth Vader is the only one inside anymore. Though, as fans, we know there is still some Anakin left, which Luke is able to reveal, and help redeem

  • @shorgoth
    @shorgoth Год назад +19

    An interesting thing I noted while watching the show in therm of symbolism. It's all about why the Imperial March was only played in the end. Basically what we are seeing is the final transition between Anakin and Vader, the complete fall. We can especially see symbolic elements during the last two duels between the two, the first where Vader burns Obi-Wan like he was burned on Mustafar and the second where he literally buries his past symbolic self by burying his old master. We see again that shifting duality and death in the scene where the mask is cut through and we see Anakin's face under the mask, the slice in it symbolizing the divide of the man at that moment. The blue light mirrors the last dying embers of the man giving peace to Obi-Wan by telling him basically that it isn't his fault, then the light shift to red and we see the absolute death of the hero, and only rage and Vader remains. Same with his voice, turning back to a more Anakin-like version, where he is more present than the voice modulator in tones, but the shift as he yells "Obi-Wan" twice, first less modulated toward Vader's machinelike sound and finally nearly all machine and warth. This is why the Imperial March only plays at the end, because during the rest of the show, there was still a part of Anakin in his actions, culminating with him fully assuming the role of Vader and forsaking Obi-Wan completely for Palpatine. I bet I missed elements, the symbolism of those scenes is INSANE.

    I teared up when Obi Wan said the "I'm sorry, for all of it" line. It seems like Anakin was back for a brief moment when he told Obi Wan he was not his failure. But then Vader had to come back almost right away.

    When Anakin says: im not your failure, you didnt kill Anakin😭😭, you know that was 100% Anakin trying to relieve the guilt from Obi-Wan. This battle was epic!

    To be honest I kinda understand why Darth Vader didn't say "I have the high ground." And that's because that would've been coming from Anakin and not Vader. The more and more I watch this fight the more understanding I have of why he didn't say it cause don't get me wrong I wanted him to say it too. But yeah just thought I'd put that out there.

      I wanted him to say it for meme purposes ALONE. Wouldve been hysterical honestly.

    • @o0Evo0o
      @o0Evo0o Год назад +1

      There's also that the "high ground" exchange was less about Obi-Wan winning and more Anakin completely owning himself (and proving Obi-Wan did not, in fact, underestimate him)

    • @reca2489
      @reca2489 Год назад +1

      I agree. Although I would have liked Vader saying just "it's over, Obi-Wan...", since using the high ground line would have been very petty, although legendary. I think it all was done perfectly on this duel, including the music. Is much darker and tragic than Battle of the Heroes and Duel of Fates, and it fits perfectly the context

    A part of me will believe there was a tiny piece of Anakin left & purposefully freed Obi-Wan (his brother) from his pain by taking responsibility for his “death”

    The "Im Sorry" was so genuine. Like when someone was so speechless with horror or shock or straight up heartbreak they cant think of anything truly to say. I was fine until i heard him say that in the show. Then my eyes just watered instantly.

      That's why it was such a great fight and scene! You root for Obi Wan to win but once he beats Vader you feel sorry for Vader, even though he murdered so many people...one of the best scenes in the Star Wars in my opinion.
      By the way, that cut to the back could have been a killing blow, but it was obvious Oni Wan didn't want to kill him and knew the fight was over once he destroyed Vader's breathing support. He only wanted to stop him so he wouldn't be able to follow him.

      Yes. Hence why he told him in Episode 3 that he should have killed him when he had the chance. He wanted Obi-Wan to come back and finish the job, but also not to leave him there like that.

    The most heartbreaking is when you hear one sentence “I’m not your failure, Obi-wan” and it sounds more like Hayden/Anakin than Darth Vader in that moment than others. That being said just being able to hear Hayden/Anakin or what remains of his voice was just so awesome with all the distortion!

    This scene broke my heart. Such pain from both of them released. The pain in Ewan's eyes upon seeing his friend is profound, what Anakin says to him makes this scene even more gut wrenching. Brilliantly done by both men.
