Probably the best tutorial for us rookies on the web. So many artists are selfish with their tricks and tips.....thank you for your time and the lesson.

Get a grip. Selfish?! What, people that have practised for years and years, paid for courses or mentoring, read and paid for books to hone their craft and you're calling them out because they don't want to upload a video step by step guide for you?? People like you who are always looking for shortcuts are the people that make this world a shitter place, jog on you pleb.

@@D-D0G For one ….. you don't know me.....and with your attitude will never have the pleasure. I work in a dangerous profession that was held back for years because the old timers would not share their tricks and tips with the young up and comers that followed them. And yes....they are selfish, just as I am sure that you are, with your dweeb comment. I will not continue this conversation and disgrace what this man has done by taking the time to SHARE with others his knowledge and expertise. I hope that one day you can understand what your comment brings to this page.

I think it'll take some practice on my part to even get half as good:) I'd like to do this technique on a furniture project I have in mind, re-creating antique advertising lettering. Painted some flames on car hood once. Artist friend of mine convinced me to use gold leaf on the flame tips. He showed me how. He didn't use adhesive. He put alcohol on the hood and put a piece of leaf on top. The alcohol dried up and sucked the leaf flat onto the paint. Trim with a razor blade and clear over it. It has been there for 22 years and still looks great. It was a small area about 3/8" x 1". Don't know how well that would work on a large area like those numbers.

I once had to do a mural on the inside of a dome. It was 35' wide and the corresponding height and depth. Four figures and a main figure. The only way to do it was with a projector. I mounted the projector on a flat surface connected to a ball joint on a solid photographers tripod for complete control while I traced it down. It seems to me this would be useful for complex lettering or patterns on surfaces that have two or more curves.

I used "variegated leaf"...as well, one word, many don't know what "Dutch gold leaf " is..no criticism just saying. Also after 50 years in biz I would use
1 Shot white with a bit of boiled linseed oil to avoid buying size in a pinch, and a white backing gives a little Xtra to brilliance. Man.. I'm retired now but spent years pinstriping and lettering race cars and Big Rig diesel trucks. Thanks good work.

Super slick and gorgeous execution!!! How will this hold up under washing and waxing? Thanks

It will hold up fine, that vehicle will not see a lot of weather or abuse. I would not use that clear on an everyday vehicle , I would use an automotive urethane. But the enamel paint will be great. I use that to letter trucks and pinstripes thanks for watching 😎

That is so cool and thanks very much for sharing. Question; If am inter-clear that is used paint flames, add decals and other, then finish the area with a urethane clear coat over the area? Since it contains "UV" inhibitors and provides a harder finish, would this work or have you done this. Some painters do this to finish when done.

I have never done that process. But , the lettering enamel I use can just about be cleared with any top coat. Even water base. Always try a sample if your unsure of the product. Thank you for watching 😎

After seeing your work it made me realize two things.
    1) It will take a lot of years and a lot of practice to get on that level
    2) I wish I lived closer to where you are, so I could commission you to do some silverleaf on my motorcycle.
That work is insanely great. I respect how good wasn't good enough. Adding in those extra layers made it that much better. I do have one question for you, if I may.
You hand brushed on the Dux clear - Is that enough to wash, wax and buff afterward? I would be concerned about undoing all that hard work?
Thanks in advance, and fantastic job.

Trust me. You can’t do this. Just keep working on it. It will get there. I still screw up sometimes. But im always trying to to be the best I can be. Thank you for watching .😎

I will never be even close to your talent and final job product, but I want to tray my fist attempt with golden lives on motorbike helmet. Normally I use this golden sheets on desserts , because I'm a chef but I love painting things as a hobby.

@@rickbendi8709 please I would like to make the following consultation, to avoid that the gold leaf adheres to the surface that we do not want, firstly should we varnish?

    • @rickbendi8709
      @rickbendi8709  4 года назад +1

Jose Luis Alonso only put the varnish ( size ) where you want the gold to be. If the gold sticks to a area where it don't belong. You can remove it wth a rag and mineral spirits.
I hope I understood the question correctly. Good luck
