    It would be nice if the industry called them LED vs CFL lamps since they're all UV lamps. That would clear up so much of the confusion. The difference is the type of bulb used.

    Very helpful thank you. My husband bought this lamp for me for Christmas, actually three years ago. I never took it out of the box. I grew my own nails and was looking for something with just a fan to dry my nails faster. He purchased this by mistake because he didn’t realize what he was buying 😂🤪. Anyway, due to, I’m guessing age or hormones, my own nails are getting ridges and are breaking easily. I have a gel nail set I’m super exited to try and now I’m thrilled I have this lamp.

    Thank you for answering a question that I couldn’t find an answer to!! The manual for these lamps don’t explain when the lamp is in LED or UV mode, so I wasn’t sure which curing duration I was supposed to use!

    I bought one of these last night based on your recommendation. You spoke about the same lamp in another video.
    I'm excited and mine was on sale for $39 on Amazon.
    April 20, 2023 I take my cosmetology state board practical. This is for reinstatement because I let my license expire while I was in the Navy.
    I have the full cosmetology thing but I prefer nails. It's more fun and I find it more relaxing. I will see where the job market is because I will be able to both hair and nails.
    This lamp is good for me because it will be me starting all over and I don't have a lot of supplies.

    I’d love to know more about wattage in regards to cure time - like does higher wattage = less cure time? More heat spike? I bought a lamp that claims to be 86w, but how long should I cure gel when the bottle says 60s in 35w?

    • @TheNaturalNailGuru
      @TheNaturalNailGuru  3 года назад +1

      The curing time really is determined on whether the light is UV or LED. However with LED lights that are low wattage like 9w or 12 W those definitely are not very powerful and usually need extra time especially with more pigmented colors. UV lights are always lower intensity regardless of wattage and will take longer to cure. I hope that was helpful!

      I bought a 128watt UV/LED one off Amazon for around $40. Does that seem like a weirdly high wattage? The main reason I purchased it is because they give a one year warranty and none of the other combo lamps I came across offered that.. I kept seeing reviews on other ones where people complained they only used theirs a few times and then it broke or it stopped working after a few months etc so when I came across the Ovlux UV /LED 128 watts with a 1 year warranty I figured I should take the chance. I'm new to gel nails and I'm a natural nail chick so I was so happy when I came across your channel because so many other chicks have fake nails.

    I just purchased the exact same light, but even if it's a very thin coat of gelish polish or foundation it takes more than regular 6 minutes to barely cure it. Not on the low button, the regular ones.
    Do you think I got a bad one?

      Hi! It is very difficult to see what could be the cause. I use that light for quite some time and actually gave it away to one of my clients that moved. And she is still using it it’s been about a year maybe a little bit more. Does it happen with just specific colors or any color that you use?

      When it says LED and UV for the light that usually means it is primarily LED but has the option for the slow low heat curing. For LED your basecoat takes 10 seconds your color coat and topcoat take 30 seconds. I always put it in a little extra time just to make sure I get a good cure but that’s really all you need. For UV it generally takes 1.5 minutes for the basecoat and two minutes for the color coat and topcoat. I hope that was helpful!

    • @TheNaturalNailGuru
      @TheNaturalNailGuru  2 года назад

      For an LED light it is generally 10 seconds for the basecoat and 30 seconds for a color coat or topcoat. For a UV lamp it’s much more time I think it’s 30 to 60 seconds for a base coat and a minute and a half for color coats and topcoat might be a little bit off on that one haven’t used a UV in a while 😉

    Hi, i have had 2 sun uv lamps and i am not planning on getting a third one. I am looking for a really good lamp that cures cnd, or other brands of shellac. Nobody has two or three different brands of naillamps to cure. At this moment i just would like to get a good lamp. No mather what it costs. Buying cheaper lamps is finally goïng to cost more than when you buy a really good lamp that's more expensive. I really can not say i am satisfied with sun uv. The second one wasn't that cheap either. I've been looking for months now. And still do not know what to buy. Sorry to say that i am not satisfied with sun uv. 😁 I had time to look for a new one. Haven't been doïng nails because of my health. But i am getting better. Getting to a point that i really want to buy a new lamp now. (i've got a new heart valve) and have some other problems with my health. I know it doesn't really matter. But i want to explain why i did not buy a new one yet. Looking for one online is not that easy. And i still am having problems with shopping. Just need to get healthier i guess. I do need a longer cable too than the one from sun uv. Mine is even shorter than the one you are showing here. 😉 I did ask it allready but it seems that when someone is promoting sun uv they don't want to answer what lamp they are using themselves. Sun uv is so promoted that i am just getting so grr. Sorry lol..greetings from Belgium

      I bought one off Amazon for around $40 if I remember correctly and they give a 1 year warranty. It's a UV/LED lamp that's 128 watts and it's called Ovlux. On the practice nails that I tried it seemed to work but I still haven't tried on my real nails yet because I'm new to gel nails and want to learn & practice on the fake nail swatches that I have first before trying it on my natural nails.

      Hi! I couldn't agree with you more about sun lamps being promoted, my problem with them is each of them is missing something important and the cable is so short like a toy, they like to put out many models woth each missing something instead of having 1 or 2 wellrounded lamps that have all important features.... Also there are so many sun lamps that are not even real sun lamps, so i got tricked there before i knew to only order from the sun official page... And i feel i had to replace sun lamps fast, i used to have CND lamp and it lasted over 5 years... After her i tried sun lamps and always was replacing them so fast.. the only one i was most happy was the first original sun1 (not copy) but it is so small and basic, no timer display.. but amazing thing about her eas it cured EVERYTHING, a lot of expensive lamps dont cure everything... What sun lamps models did you have that you were not happy with? if i can ask to see if maybe im not alone in it :)

      I would check inside while it’s on briefly to see if may be any of the LED bulbs popped out and is what’s rattling inside the machine. If it’s not bad it could be some other piece but if the light is working properly shouldn’t be a concern. If you’re having any issues with the light at all turning on definitelyy go through the process to request a replacement

    Hiya! Sorry if this sounds super rude or anything, but have you read anything by the nail scientist Dough Schoon? His research and knowledge has blown my mind on the world of UV/LED lights. Basically, the wattage is less important than many nail techs think since it only indicates a power outage. The actual bulbs and the wavelengths of those bulbs are what affect the total cure of a gel product. If you do not use the lamp specified by the gel manufacturer it can lead to undercured product (undercured product will still feel hard and look cured but it isn't) and that puts clients at risk of developing allergies due to repeated and continuous exposure . I love your videos and mean absolutely no disrespect, I just want to share this knowledge!

    • @kathykov1
      @kathykov1 3 года назад +2

      I took a CND class where several LED lamps were used for this experiment. Only shellac was used in this experiment.
      We polished tips and cured it in five different lamps. After the first cure the tips were all wiped down.
      I would say 90% of the color stayed on the tip using the CND lamp.
      As for the other lamps 50 to 75% of the color was wiped off
      This goes to show that is important using the proper lamp for the brand.

      Hi thank you so much for your feedback! I definitely I’m no scientist and when it comes to the knowledge of the technology in these lights still have a lot to learn I only share what I I have experienced myself. I’ll definitely look into him though I’m always looking to learn there is so much product information out there it’ll be hard to get it all in my brain but I sure am trying! And thank you again for your feedback it is always welcome I promise 😉

      Hi! I’ve actually never used shellac I know it differs a little bit from gel I guess in the chemical components aspect of it and brands can only guarantee results assuming clients are using the products the way they intended them to however in my 12 years of experience using so many different kinds of products constantly mixing and matching I have never experienced an issue were doing so affects the longevity of the manicure. My clients across the board can wear their manicure for weeks without any chips and every single one of them can definitely attest to that. But there’s so many variables and factors that go into everything that we do it’s hard to say anything is just one specific way as it works so differently for everyone. I only hope to share what I do and why things work for me, why I get the consistent results that I get across-the-board and hope that it’s going to help anyone out there that’s looking for the information. 😉 And you reminded me that I really need to get on comparing shellac and gel 🧐 thank you so much for the comment although I want to share my knowledge I myself have so much to learn and I’m eager to do so 🤗💅🏻💁🏻‍♀️
