I just took off the hinge part off the phone mount and screwed it back in place for free , at Least it covers the hole and I just have the small hinge part back there, which is not too bad imo
I wish i saw this earlier. I did the bad way by just cutting the wires and now I have no bluetooth. Im not sure how bluetooth is affected though - surely the bluetooth isn't in the handset??
@@bradtourt Thanks for your reply. I did find a 20A fuse blown which was for the USB port. However replacing it has made no difference do I'm thinking that Ive damaged the control unit in the back. Not happy with myself!!
Wish saw this video earlier, i got stuck with the wires and cut the wires in the phone cradle and just radio, aux reverse parking sound etc, when you removed the cradle did you lose any functionality like the ones i mentioned, your reply will be appreciated.
I did the same thing. You have blown a fuse. I can't remember which number it was, but am pretty sure it was one of the 5amp fuses in the rear fuse compartment. You'll need to test them with a continuity/multi- meter to find which one it is. Replace the broken fuse and everything works perfectly again
@@waynereardonthx I just the cables today and radio took forever to boot ...and aux is grayed out ... Will be looking for fuse ... I was thinking then I cut wire must short something ...thx
Definitely not worth 80$ at all. I'll put a sheet of plastic or a 3 inch black tape. Done. 1$ vs 80$ put. Easy choice. Or I can 3d print one lol. Any takers? I'll start 3d printing these and selling for 30 ez
In South Africa its the cheapest to buy it directly from BMW. Quick question. Any errors or issues after removal? I can see no reason to have it in the car as no current technology can use it. Did you have to do any coding after?
Great tips and very helpful. But this can be made much easier by simply unscrewing the phone holder and cutting the wires. One is only a small co-axial, so just put a bit of tape over the end. The other is small five core. Just peel back the outer sheath and keep each wire separate and again tape up. You could put a blob of silicone on of you wanted to seal it fully. I didn't. Then just tuck the wire back in to the recess before covering. I made a simple card cover with folds in the right places. Then covered it with sticky back plastic (you could use vinyl wrap). Cheap and easy. Looks ok.
@@bradtourt Good point usually, but in this case there is no power going through the wiring when ignition is off and key removed. So only cut wires when power is off. Insulating the ends is the same as leaving the connector on.
I cannot believe I put up with this shit for so long lollllllllllll. Took me 5 min. Jesusss, should have gotten rid of this like 3 years ago... i just figure i'd fuck it up and cause ECU errors or something lollllllll
It took me three years to make the decission to kick the cradle out of my car, this video was such a help to get it done. Thanks a ton, mate.
same dude.... we fucked up. it took 5 minutes. and i suffered for 3-4 years as well
Very easy fix to remove the phone holder. Thanks Brad
Thanks for this video. I bought the trim cover a while ago, just needed to know how to take the cradle out.
The part in the UK was not too expensive from the dealers. BMW car club gb 10% discount also helps.
After one week of ownership I really have to get this done tomorrow.

@@huessoundI unscrewed it with hex ... don't know the number
By the way the part lists for $80 at the dealer in the US.
What a deal.

I'd check your fuses, you probably blew one. Otherwise you might've cut the Bluetooth antenna wire as the antenna is under the center console.

There is live power going to this, advise not cutting it so you don't damage anything.
