If anybody is about to tackle this project, I can't stress enough how important step @7:35 is. I fought the bracket for over an hour and ended up putting the nut back on and cutting as much as possible off from the stud, then taking nut off and re-installing the bracket. Theres just enough thread and it makes the job night and day easier.
this is my next job..parts are here ready, thanks for sharing and the mountain of tips and insights, you will have made a huge differance to both how i will tackle the job and the time it takes me, i am hoping to leave the bumper on..fingers crossed and once again thanks so so much for sharing, youur a star
I have a 2011 same car with the same headlight issue. It’s a diesel too. What do you mean by adding a projector? Wonder what he charges. Will have to email him. Great video
You mentioned the burned up headlight bowls at the beginning, how do you repair those to get the light output back? I have 140k miles on my LCI and the headlight output is quite bad so I assume I have burned bowls. Awesome video man! I'll be referencing it soon when I dive into mine to replace my projector lenses and toss my DEF tank in the dumpster.
What is that piece that it mounts on to? I'm rebuilding the front end of my x5 and i cant find that part for the life of me. the one that has the plastic mounting spots at 11:48
@@bradtourtthat headlight bracket is most difficult thing to remove in this changing process . I broke it and have to buy a new one. I should have the screws thread like you have shown 😢.
That's a lot more work to do that, then you have to deal with the washer fluid tank and also align the fenders when you put it back together. But you do you, whatever works.
@@LOLOLmad sounds like you haven't touched a G-series BMW yet! 😆 In all honesty, I have it pretty well laid out if you are going to tackle this job. It takes me 30mins to pull both headlights. Stay positive about it, and you'll have it done in no time 🙂
@bradtourt youre correct lol. I did take a slightly different route. Pulled fender half off n pulled the light out through the bay. Wasnt terrible. But going from oldskool(4 easily accessible bolts) to newskool (rip the whole engine out[sarcasm lol]) to get a headlight out. 🤯 still. Love the machines. But some things that should be easy, are not haha. How they get ya tho.
What a load of shit just to get a headlight out 🤦 And just to make it that much worse from the owner from don't it, put an airbag sensor to scare him away I feel sorry for customers that have to come to us mechanics for something that should be an easy quick diy job .... You can probably tell I have a turbulent relationship with our x5 compared with my Commodore ss
This is one of those things that makes a huge difference to the cars appearance...but..as with all modern german cars, faaaaar to much over engineering....a bastard of a job simply changing a bulb never mind an entire headlight....the bulbs on the 'inside' can be changed by removing a plastic disc cover...BUT...it looks a LOT easier than it is, awkward 3 tanged bulbs, very little room in a recess and wiring that has no 'give'. .PLUS...once bulbs are in the correct place, one tang is smaller than the other two so only fit one way, trying to turn them into lock position is a ball ache as well 🥵....far far too much over complication.....wait until you have to change the air filter on the M57 x5 engine !!!.... what used to be a 2 minute job....is now so fckin awkward...it takes or can take hours....my god...

Damn i was going to replace my lens covers till i saw this vid 😅
Hi Brad, Tony did an awesome job to, I love it, he got talent. I learned a lot, beautiful lights. Congratulations!!! Thank you very much. Sal
Who's Tony, no mention of the buisness?
This is the definition of having FUN!! 😂😂🔥🔥
I have a 2011 same car with the same headlight issue. It’s a diesel too. What do you mean by adding a projector? Wonder what he charges. Will have to email him. Great video
How did you get the inner projectors to turn on? I have a 2012 and I can’t find anyway to turn them on

You have to replace the whole projector.
It's helpful to leave the film on the new lights until they're installed... it protects them from scratches when you're working.

Brad it'd be dope to keep blessing the m57 Family with videos! cetanegang my brother!
Hi Brad, you did an excellent job. Congratulations!!! I have learned a lot. Thank you very much. Sal
So you actually install the front bumper before to put back the plastic of which you cut the bolt before?
Can you post a video on how to bulb swap the lower fogs the easy way
What is Tony's information, would like to have my lights restored.
Was kostet so eine Satz Scheinwerfer und wo haben Sie gekauft Danke
Great job!
You mentioned a guy named Tony, does he do these for a living and where is he located and how can I get him to do mine?
What’s is Tony’s @, or site?
great video, how many miles on it?
160k I believe
Great video Thank you!
Very good video, thanks 👍
Great video. What's the deal with having to grind down that one bolt?
Looks like so you don't have to pry that bracket out as far.
Bro, you ’re Pro..👍
How much does all this cost?
Hi Brad what's your next project after you sell the 135i.
Possibly another e91 wagon but xdrive
Would love to do this but this is beyond my comfort zone. I don’t even want to ask my mechanic how much he would charge to do this for me lol
Take a weekend and you'll be good! All information is in the video (:
I'm pretty confident I could do the removal and reinstall part, but what would be the total cost of Tony's work?
Hi were can I purchase the headlights for a 2013 X5 diesel 3.0 ( LCI) ? Thanks
I have a set done already. $2,000
Great post.
If I bought headlights how much is that usually to have them swapped out
I'd say around 5 hours of labor
Thank you bro
So that’s a Pre-LCI x5 and it had LCI headlights?
Typically the go to is the LCI conversations.
It's a pre LCI with pre LCI lights.
Is that a Diesel?
Yes
@@bradtourt Thanks
Brad where are you located ?

Yes @brad have anyone in San Antonio Texas you can refer us to for headlight removal and working with Tony??

Very complicated headlights system from BMW 🤬🤬 why!??!
Yes, and the new vehicles (not just bmw) are a lot more complicated

Or just remove front bumper and fenders

Long ahhhh install
Love my x5. Absolutly hate doing maintenance on it. Getting into my e30 or e36 is a dream compared this over engineered bullshit. If im honest.

You DO NOT HAVE TO TAKE THE BUMPER OFF,,,, that’s just stupid
On these diesels, there is a DEF tank in the way, so yes, on this one I did to make it easier for me.
😂 so much work
Get to it!
