- Watch as we bring this stock 2015 Jeep Wrangler JK into the spotlight with some of the top styling and performance upgrades on the market. The first upgrade on the list was to add bigger and better tires along with 3.5" Rough Country Lift with shocks. For this build the Fuel Maverick Wheels were the best option to give it that better-than-stock look.
Other Rugged Ridge exterior modifications were added to give this Jeep JK a more unique look. The Rugged Ridge tube front bumper is an easy and functional add-on which adds more clearance between the front fender and the tire; prefect for any mild off-roading.
Finally hop in this Wrangler JK with Ryan and take it for a test spin to see how the tires and lift handle on the road. For more build videos head over to www.extremeterrain.com!

Do you guys ever do 2 door builds? Everyone seems to own a 4 door nowadays...
Austin Alsadi He did with a 2007 Sahara
Drill two holes on the tube bumper, you got a 36" LED light bar. Add a hitch receiver in front, you got a winch receptacle.
You could definitely do all of that to this bumper if you'd like! Personally I'd rather just purchase a bumper with a winch mount instead of doing the fab work involved with adding a front receiver. Do you have a tube bumper on your Wrangler? -Jake
ExtremeTerrain.com I think adding receiver is a bolt on. You brought up the point adding a tube bumper with the intent to keep the cost down. I was merely expanding on that concept. I have KJ with a ARB in front. However, on my next build grabbing ideas. I like the removable winch as you can go dual purpose, front and rear. I believe it is Smitty that manufactures a 12k mount for the receiver. I like your videos, great work.
Whoops, my immediate thought was to think about fabricating something custom up! They do make front bolt on receiver hitches though and that's not a bad idea so that you could switch from front to back when needed. You would just have to find a way to run the power using quick connect cables on both ends. Thanks a lot for the support! We try to do our best with our Review and Install videos. What's going to be your next build after your KJ? -Jake
What with the Rake still 2" lower in the front...with the RC lift? Jeep Should be LEVEL with that lift, right? Yes I know the difference between the lifts also.
Honestly depends on each lift and how they're set up! I know systems from TeraFlex and Mopar are developed specifically to level out the front of your Wrangler after the lift is installed. Other kits - you may want to invest in an additional .75" leveling spacer to ensure the front of your Jeep stays level. -Zach
@@extremeterrain Thanks for not being offended
I know this usually isn't a jeep question, but what kind of fuel economy can you expect with a build like this, being that it would be a daily driver?
Corey Spencer I'm going through with this same lift and tire setup and every mechanic i ask always say it's gonna knock the MPG about 5mpg less than whatever you get now. With me around 8-10MPG. So you're gonna look awesome but gonna pay the price... literally lol
Corey Spencer Re-gearing will get some economy back. Idk about Jeeps but with trucks, engine tuners also help economy a little bit.
a lot of the mpg can be regained with regearing your rig helps with loss of torque as well
With my 2012 rubicon with 4.10 gearing, I get about 16mpg average with this build.
Flat freeway driving I can bump that up to about 18 if I am being nice.
However if I add in some wheeling, that drops down to 12-13 or so.
Altogether how much would everything you put on here cost
2k would be my guess, based on how much my build was for 37s and 4 in lift
@@ryanwoodard7625 where are you located? Lol that's a good price
Would it help more to start the build with a Rubicon? I heard that they come with extra in stock form.
Do you have any rear drive shaft vibrations? Did you add an adjustable rear upper control arm?
What are the details on those tires? look great, size , brand, etc
I have a JL sports automatic. with 35s 2' lift . do I need to regear . thank u
No
I just ordered this kit for my 2012 Rubicon Unlimited, I also ordered the adjustable front track bar. Should I not install the track bar relocation bracket and drop pitman arm? Also, should I install exhaust spacer So?
Awesome Alan! If you ordered an adjustable trackbar you will no longer need to use the relocation bracket provided in the kit as long as you adjust the trackbar correctly. You will still need to install the drop pitman arm though to correct your steering components angle. Let me know if you have any more questions! -Jake
ExtremeTerrain.com I installed the kit a few days ago and used the drop pitman arm and the adjustable track bar without the track bar relocation bracket. I did get some bump steer with that set up. I put the factory pitman arm back on and it now drives like it did off the showroom floor! This is a very nice riding lift. Very stable at speed and it doesn't shake your teeth loose. I couldn't be happier with the results!
Sooo... I am not a mechanic, but I want this.. if I go to a shop and say, hey man... make my jeep look all sick like and gimme a 3.5 inch lift with this kit.. will they automatically do all this other mumbo jumbo you speak of.. calibrations, control arms la de da? or do I need to specify? I assume any 4 wheel shop already knows how to do all this right?
No problem Mattie! If you purchase this kit and bring it to your local mechanic or 4 wheel shop then they will be able to install it as is with no problems! You will need to have your Jeep aligned after the installation, but besides that you'l be good to go. It's when you plan to take your Jeep out on the trails and really flex the suspension out that you would want to think about changing out your driveshafts, brake lines, etc. If you have any other questions just let me know! -Jake
It looks like it still has the front rake after the lift. Is there a fix to this?
Strait to the malls snow piles..yes!!..
Just curious cause I'd want to upgrade my lift on my 2015 jkr. Did you have any issues with the front driveshaft and exhaust.
I did not have any issues with my drive shaft on my 2012. I have the same engine and exhaust as you do.
I do some decent wheeling and do push it to full flex without any issues. Check out some of my videos to see it in action
do you recommend hydro or nitro shocks?
Thanks so much for the info! I recently purchased this kit and am waiting for it to arrive. Which super chip fcal did you use to reprogram things? I went looking for one after you mentioned using it to recalibrate things which makes it much easier than taking it somewhere to get it done but I found a bunch of different ones and I am not sure which one would work best.
Thanks for any help!
-Brittenie
I have an easy answer to your question in the form of a link! Check it out www.extremeterrain.com/superchips-flashcal-f5-0716-3571.html. - Will
This is so confusing to me. All i want to do is put a 4" lift with 35's. i guess if i do this, there are a laundry list of other mods i must do to keep it a daily driver. spacers? gearing? steering? exhaust mod? break line extenders? Im not trying to change all that. what should i do?????
Hey Cody! Personally I think that a 4" lift is overkill if you're only looking to run 35" tires. You can fit a 37" tire on a 4" lift. A 3.5" lift like we installed in this video would easily fit 35" tires and make your Jeep a solid daily driver. We replaced the brake lines on our build for off-road purposes so that when we flex out the suspension we don't over extend a line. However if you plan to only daily driver your Jeep then you'll have no problem with the factory lines. We mention other modifications like gearing and steering because it's important to remember that when you lift your Jeep that you're putting extra stress on those factory components. Running larger tires can cause premature wear to those factory components so upgrading to stronger aftermarket parts is recommended, but not completely necessary. For what you're looking to get out of your Jeep I recommend this Rough Country kit exactly how it comes out of the box. You may run into some rubbing while turning if you're going to run the 35" tires on the factory wheels so some wheel spacers or aftermarket wheels may be necessary. If you need anything else just let me know! -Jake
35s are great with a 2.5-3” lift
ExtremeTerrain.com So would Dana 30/35s be fine with 35s and a 3.5” lift kit as shown in the video? I’m going to do the exact same set in this video on my 2 door jk with a tuner and regearing done.
why does no one list theree wheel dimensions? wtf is your wheel size, width, off set, and back spacing? I cant find this this anywhere. Im just trying to find a rim to fit with a 3.5 inch lift to my jeep but no one ever posts there wheel dimensions for there set up
I am a 2012 jeep wrangler unlimited rubicon on this same lift.
I have 35x12.5 inch tires on 15 inch rims.
Wheel back spacing is set at 3.75" which makes it just clear the stock brake system and no rubbing, even at full flex.
Wheels are procomp steelies.
If you want to see the set up in action, I do have some videos posted on my channel.
Most everyone that does this has 18" rims (factory), most guys go with 17" (cheaper) with 35" tires and you only lose an inch compared to the 18" but with the 35's you are gaining 1.5" from factory so it works just fine with 17" and saves money from going to the 18" rims with the same look and feel.
Hi there
I sure enjoyed the video
I have a 2013 jeep wrangler unlimited SAHARA V6 3.6
4 Door got it used already Lifted with 35X12.50 R 20. M/S Dick CEPEK tires
I've read that when you loft your jeep more than 3" it's recommended to change you're drive shaft. do you think with this kit it's necessary ?
Great question! I personally think that this lift kit has everything you need in order to get the job done without having to replace your driveshafts. Once you get into the 4"+ range on the JK's is where you need to start considering switching your driveshaft out. You do however always have to consider that whenever you lift your rig you're putting extra stress on your drivetrain and suspension components. Hope this answered your question! -Jake
+ExtremeTerrain.com thanks for the reply. I'm thinking of the 4" lift and wouldn't really off road much. sounds like I can get away with it . if not do you think I could put that lower on the to do list ? I know rough country offers one
+ExtremeTerrain.com let me ask you one more thing, I know you chose this lift so you could get 35's on. would this kit work for my situation, I'm planning on getting 22X14 with 35's
You can always get away with putting a bigger tire on a smaller lift if you don't plan on going off-road much with it. Mainly because you won't be really flexing out the suspension too much to run into any rubbing problems. I think that if you ran this 3.5" lift with your tire setup that you should have no problems. Are you looking to run a 20" wheel and a 14" wide tire? If so I would just make sure you have a good enough backspacing on the wheel so you don't run into any rubbing issues when turning. Let me know if you have any more questions! -Jake
+ExtremeTerrain.com thanks for all the information. I was looking into getting a 22" wheel 14"wide. and the back packing would be 4.5" which I think is the recomended .
What gear ratio are you going to go with when it is changed? I just bought a JKU with 35's and the fuel mileage sucks! My goal is substantial mileage increase and still able to hit 80 on the highway. Thoughts?
Great question! Cruising on the highway, a higher numerical gear ratio will decrease gas MPG as it will elevate your RPM while traveling. On the flip side, a lower numerical gear ratio will increase your MPG on the highway but decrease in stop and go traffic as you will need to provide your rig with much more throttle to get it going! Personally, I think a 4.10 is the best of both worlds. - Will
4:88 for 6 speed manual or 5:13 for auto, if you have the 3.8
What size are the rims? I know that the tires are 35" but I wondering if the rims were like 20x9 or something like that
rims look like 18s to me
What about Drive shafts? Any changes on that..
I did not do anything with my drive shafts. I didn't even add the exhaust spacers and I still have no issues with them.
If you want to see the set up in action, I do have some videos posted on my channel.
what aftermarket control arms do you recommend?
can you review your "MethodWorks Leatherette Seat Covers" id like to see more and online there's only octures
even with the three inch lift there is no need to replace the driveshafts?
+jake Milam Whenever you lift a Jeep, you should start thinking about Driveshafts. That being said, on a 4 door, the DS angle isn't quite as bad due to the longer wheel base so you don't have to be as concerned about picking up a new Driveshaft, however any time you lift a Jeep and change your Driveline geometry you do want to monitor and maintain your Driveshaft and other similar components. - Will
will the stock spare tire holder support a 35 in tire?
Well with the heavier, larger tires on a stock spare carrier you run the risks of warping the rear tailgate and even the tailgate itself coming apart at the welds (which will rattle). The factory carrier is not designed for the weight of 35s, so while you might be able to get away with holding it, I will warn you that it most likely won't last as long as a heavy duty tire carrier would. Thank you Pete! -Brian
Thanks Brian, I was planning on getting the upgraded bumper with carrier, so really just wanted to see . What offset would you recommend for 35 in tires on a 3.5 in lift.
Well it does depend what wheels you are looking at. For example our Mammoth Boulder Black Wheels - 17x9 will fit 35s without any rubbing and have - Backspacing: 4.7" (121mm) & Offset: -6mm (-0.2"). Check out some of the pictures that our customers have uploaded to see how wide of a stance this provides: terrain.jp/2njh87k -Brian
what"s the maximum size tire that i can install on my jeep sahara unli 4 doors, if i just do body lift?
Hipon Tank tv 35’s
Are the rims 17x9???
They are! -Zach
Did you need to install an exhaust spacer kit with this lift?
You definitely will need an exhaust spacer kit with this lift kit Matt! Any 2012+ Wrangler requires an exhaust spacer kit with a lift kit above 2". Hope this helps! -Jake
Okay thank you for the fast reply!
No problem Matt! -Jake
@@extremeterrain im my jeep is Wrangler Rubicon 4 dors 2014 2,8 CDR (diesel ) i must buy exhaust spacer kit ? TX
Did you regear?
I’d like to know as well.
I want to sign up for you to Pimp My Jeep. I want to pay yall and yall do everything safely.
Interested in going with a 3 or 3.5 inch lift on my 2012 jku. I have the Sahara model.. If I go with the 3 inch lift with 35's will i have to re gear or no?
Drejnaught i have the same exact question. Dos you Get Any help?
Sahara comes with 3.73 gears meaning if you go up to 35" tires you'd lose some peppiness. It's best to regear when going to 35".
You will not HAVE to regear. It will feel a bit slow and sluggish on the road but it wouldn't necessarily be required.
I do recommend it though.
@@raulherrera1126 It is recommended to regear but it is not entirely required. The stock gearing will work but it will make the jeep feel a bit sluggish on the 35s.
It all depends on what and where you are going to do with it and if you are a daily driver, trail riding or actually climbing the trails. The 35" will make it a bit slow but unless your going trail climbing I would say no, but if you want to make it more fun and have the money it would be worth it.
This Jeep being a sport model upgraded to 35 inch tires what is the gear ratio?
+Ryan Tiebout This Jeep still has the stock gears (3.73's) but will most likely be upgraded soon ;) - Will
Most sports have 3:21 gears I believe. Maybe 2012 and up have 3:73 from factory in the sports
what type of suspensions you used for this jeep? #extremeterrain
We installed the Rough Country 3.5 in. Series II Lift Kit w/ Shocks on this Wrangler, which we currently do not carry. A similar lift to the one used can be found by following the link below though! Thanks for watching! -Zach www.extremeterrain.com/roughcountry-35in-suspension-lift-controlarm-drop-0718-4-door-jk.html
I just installed this last week and I feel that "wandering" sensation on the road. If the the provided lowers didn't help with the caster am I going to have to buy adjustable arms? The caster reading I'm getting is 3.3* I know the factory is around 4.2*, pretty far off if they were supposed to help
Hey Micah! Having the wandering feeling on the road is never good. My first step I would take would be to get an alignment and if that doesn't work then go with some adjustable control arms. The ones in the kit are designed to get it closer to factory but not exactly back to factory. Let me know if you need anything else! -Jake
Chances are the shitty rough country coil springs lifted higher then the advertised 3.5” lift. There is precut inserts on the front lower control arm mounts can’t can be taken out with a little force to allow the control arm to be moved forward or rearwards
Is it easier to flip with a 3.5 inch lift?
The higher you go, the higher the center of gravity which in theory, yes it makes it easier to flip over.
However, I have found that even with this lift, I do not have any issues with it feeling tippy or anything.
I'm on 35 inch tires as well.
If you run a 1.5" wheel spacer it pushes the wheels out and stabilizes the sway better especially on the road, but it stretches out the wheels on the trails and sometimes out of the typical wheel runs on the trails especially in tight turn areas. You would just need to know exactly where your wheel is at all times.
What size are the fuel wheels?
They are 17's! Check them out here- www.extremeterrain.com/fuel-wheels-maverick-jk-d53817900545.html. - Will
What size rims?
They are 17x9! Check it out here: terrain.jp/2nw8yPi -Brian
Do you have stock track bars?
This kit does re-use the stock track bar, but it utilizes a drop pitman arm and a front track bar relocation bracket to maintain all proper suspension geometry. -Zach
So if I go with an adjustable track bar I dont need the drop pitman? Bolt on straight to factory housing
Could you have used the stock wheels with the new tires?
Well with the factory wheels here it would most likely have rubbing problems. The backspacing on aftermarket wheels helps push the tires out further to avoid this issue. Thank you for asking! -Brian
f bumper makes it look like a tj
What is the tire width?
Hey Robby thanks for asking! These are 315/70R17. (www.extremeterrain.com/bfgoodrich-ta-ko2-315-70-17.html) -Brian
Thank you so much! Keep the review videos coming!
You got it! Thanks! -Brian
Street 👑
I was thinking the same thing! Nothing like these beasts! -Brian
Front bumper So 1982
Those upside down front shocks look weak takes away from a decent jeep
Now you have to regear.
It definitely helps! You can kinda rock them with an automatic transmission if you re-calibrate your speedometer and shift points though. If you do any sort of wheeling its a big recommendation though. -Zach
I am on 35s as well. I do have a 2012 with the 3.6l engine and the auto transmission with the 4.10 stock rubicon gearing.
I do some pretty decent wheeling with mine and have no issues. I have posted some videos of it in action if you are curious to see.
This car is to new to have rust allready
video is kinda repetitive
Rough country is such garbage. It's sad when I talk to people who bought them, they all have nothing but complaints about their lift kits. Like the saying goes you get what you pay for... lol I feel with Rough country you pay to much for their garbage stuff 😂
Nice mallcrawler. You could have totally hit fire roads and light trails with a stock jeep. Waste of money imo.
This ain’t no fucking build.....
Do you need exhaust spacers with this kit?
Yep
I did not install exhaust spacers on this kit.
I do have a 2012 which does have a different exhaust causing some better clearance on the drive shaft though.
