Lecturers, Students Tackle Gov. Mbah's "Universities Lack Of Ideas'' Comment. (Analysis)

  • On Tuesday, November 19, 2024, the governor of Enugu state, His excellency, Governor Peter Mbah made a statement that some students and members of staff might not find funny at all. At a lecture series titled ‘Building the Wealth of a nation’, delivered at the Enugu state University of Science and Technology in Enugu state, the governor blamed educational institutions, particularly the students and academic staff for governance failure in Nigeria. According to him, Nigerian Universities barely feature on the global ranking list of world’s best universities. That our universities are unable to be the the factories of ideas and knowledge they ought to be. That our universities are not producing inventive and productive graduates. And then he said that these are the root cause of underdevelopment in the country. Afterwards, the governor said that the reason for the shallow-mindedness of our young ones is that the current school system has not imbued them with productive skills and competencies. He cited China, the United States and Germany are some of nations that operate qualitative and experiential ecosystem.
