- Jeremy Klein is a true skate legend, the first to back smith a handrail and a pioneer of street skating who’s always stirred up a bit of chaos and mischief. His style & influence can be seen with his parts in iconic videos like World Industries’ ‘Rubbish Heap’, Birdhouse’s ‘The End’, and Hookups’ ‘Destroying America’. Even in his 50s, Jeremy Klein keeps the spirit of skateboarding alive, channeling its rebellious, independent vibe through his company, JK Industries.
We sit down with Jeremy to see what keeps his passion and motivation for skateboarding alive.

Love u patrick but with vice being owned by disney yall can SMD sideways
Nice Vice!
So glad these shows are back, keep putting out these stories Patrick. These stories are important to many of us.
Skating stokes the fire but after over 20 years stuff like this speaks to my soul as far as skating but life in general too.
I am 49 years, we wanted to be Hensley, Chatman, Ron Allen and Jeremy Klein growing up. Period, those were my idols for every kid who rode a skateboard in my neighborhood. Finally he gets his flowers.
I could have written your message. I'm 49, and had boards by all your named skaters. I think it was Ron chatman board had a girl graphic where her afro and bikini was velvet.
Best times.
In Liverpool England though
I'm 43 and I wanted to be all those guys.
Me too!
🥹
Im 50 and same here.
People like people that are crazy, and he's crazy. Any good skater is crazy. It's an attractive quality. Cause I'm too scared to be crazy, let them be crazy for me and I'll be part of this thing." -- Legendary quote from Lance.
totally!! off the dome. beautiful
Lance - legend. Jeremy - legend. Lance articulated why I hang with gnarly skaters and my non skater friends hang with me.
Really, the most amazing thing about all this is that Jeremy Klein still has all his teeth.
Jeremy, I've never met you in person, but wanted to say that your kickflip melon grab sequence at night... I saw that in a book in the library when I was a kid. That was one of the coolest things, I don't know why but that grab stuck un my head my whole life. That's what got me psyched on skateboarding. Thanks for all the years of everything!!!
THE END still remains as one of the best skate videos of all time. Everything from the different styles and music selection was like nothing I’ve ever seen before at that time
Or since
And the Armani suit blockbuster fire skating section was THE BEST!!!
I love how he still insults how skaters ride for Oakley 😂😂
We need more of that!!
Yeah😅
Wonder what He would say about The Olympics and Nyjah Jock type Skaters
wtf I think it would be sick to get glasses from Oakley !? But I get it lol
Pc principal
At 33 years old now, who would’ve thought that skating would turn out to be one of the core experiences in my life. There truly is nothing else like it
i completely get that. 36 here. i’m so grateful to have found it and for it to have become a part of me
once it gets in it never goes away. stay rad
I’m 40.. and this rings so true, to sumthin a neighbour said I’d never stick with. Riding. Skateboard..
55 here and skated with Rocco at the same pier JK mentions well before he started his empire. Love his impersonation of Steve 😂
Keep rolling brothers!
33 too man. Same.
Extremely rad to see Heath and Jeremy together
FINALLY! The world needs more Klein,
for a 35 minutes i fell like i was 13 again, thank you.
That’s how I felt reading this comment
how old are you guys? 85?
@@jakemcrae4281not me…I turn 82 next week
Just a couple years before my time but I’ve always known who Jeremy was. (I’m 35 years old) what a fucking legend man. I wish this was 45 min- hr long. I’m so grateful to have had fiends like him, in my life, to skate with. Dope content. Epicly later’d is one of the best skate series of all time. Woo let’s go. Backside 360’s are literally my favorite trick because of this dude.
anyone watching this who likes Klein, you gotta watch the Tom Green interviews with him. They're incredible, Tom Green was ahead of the curve
I was just talking about this but, as per usual, got shadowbanned.
YT keeping the G's down. Must be another day ending in Y.
Anyways, not sure if the ones uploaded here are all of them but, there's a missing one from around 2011 which he used to promote the return of Hook Ups. He brought the decks which would form the 1st batch of reissues.
Sadly, downloaders weren't a thing back then. If they were, I would have downloaded it immediately like I do with the videos I like now.
And y'all should do the same. YT's been smoking that pack lately, channels and their content are disappearing left and right.
The video you like today, could be gone tomorrow.
If you do so, next thing you know, you'll see yourself with a well sized collection of lost media.
yo! thanks for the tip homie!!
@@dylives7667 CensorshipTube/ 1984Tube
Totally forgot about those.
@@dylives7667straight facts
I used to be a fan of Hook-ups, but then I got to know Jeremy through it and now I'm just a fan of Jeremy Klein. I remember vividly watching his part in The End as a kid and legitimately waking up the next day thinking it was a dream. That part is so wild and iconic to me.
But JK was Hook Ups.
Always has been.
Point blank one of the most insane parts ever. Skating is on point AF and the aesthetic is pure 90's bliss :)
Hook ups graphics got me into skating back in 95. No one else knew what anime was at my school at the time, so I felt so cool being the only guy with anime shirts. He's graphics and skating stuck with me through all these years. I'm so glad he's still making the boards and clothes and I am now glad to be the only 40yo guy with anime tiddies on my hoodie in my neighborhood. Thanks for all you've done Jeremy. You fukin rock!!
Words cannot describe how excited I am to watch this. Klein is the fucking man.
This is one of those legends that came around after my youthful interest in skating had transitioned to girls and being in bands. So while I’ve heard his name, I wasn’t aware of his importance and role within skating and in that curious time in the early 90’s when it was only the most dedicated who carried the flame that burst back into life after the X-Games and, where I noticed it, around city-hall in Philadelphia.
What a cool guy and linked in some way to so many of the skaters I most admire: Best friends with Templeton for 6 months, helped Rowley feel welcome in the US, boosted Reynolds, and helped shape Heath into who he became? Totally awesome. I love how spooked Heath looks at that dinner, a guy who regularly trips out others with his intensity and directness.
A thousand thumbs-up, guys.
didn't know how much i needed this. klein is a legend and underrated. i started skating right when birdhouse began and it was a magical time in skateboarding. i feel lucky to have been in that era.
An absolute beautiful documentary. Greco, Klein, kirchart are enigmas of skateboarding.
I started skating in '97,The End was one of my first videos and it instantly made me a lifelong Heath Kirchart fan; those fake skate sounds are also seared into my brain. Being from that era it was moving to see so many of the people that made that time special for me all in this one documentary: Rowley, Ed, Reynolds, Atiba, and of course Heath.
There is so much more to say but the biggest takeaway was the growing apart from people who at one time you were really close to.
I had a bunch of skate videos before 1993 but my neighbor let me borrow The Real Video and Birdhouse Ravers in 1993 and I never gave them back. These two videos defined a lot for me and that period of skateboarding. I studied them everyday for at least a year. And the part I watched the most would be the Jeremy Klein part. Looking back its hilarious, as a 12 year old kid trying to push Cocteau Twins on your friends at school and dressing like him. This man did more for skateboarding than people acknowledge. Great episode. I'll have to track down Bob Donis and send him the link for this.
One of my favourites growing up. Super surprised and stoked he agreed to do an episode. CHEERS!
The way he talks and even the way he walks, I always thought he was like a character from a Kevin Smith film like Clerks or Mallrats. Imagine if Jeremy Klein had been cast as Jason Lee's role in Mallrats...
I was a big Ron Chatman fan back in the day. Such dope style. Stoked to hear that he's still skating and doing well.
So stoked on this! Jeremy was definitely an influence on my skating. I started in ‘89 and Rubbish Heap was the 4th video we’d obtained. His part is so good in that and his SK8 TV segment too. Great style and tricks. Still rips too!
Klein is one of the creators of modern street skating. His part in Rubbish Heap was so ahead of its time. Smooth and tech.
Rubbish Heap was one of my first skate videos and Jeremy, Ron and Mike blew my mind.
"watching the footage degrades it.." spike's theory is an interesting one and i kind of understand.
he is a purist. and the most passionate film maker we know. and i can only relate this attitude to beholding footage in a similar sense that when you take a moment out of a moment to capture it, it kind of tarnishes the moment in some way.
like for instance the social media implication to publicly share a catch up with friends by way of photo evidence will strip away from the purity of that moment.. in that there is never any need to include people who aren't present. note: this might be complete garbage what i wrote but hopefully someone gets me.
thankyou Patrick and team for this gem
Magnetic tape degrades if you watch it. The tits part of any VHS movie got crazy fucked up from rewinding it and watching it over and over again.
@@christopherknowles omg thank you for clearing that up haha
Absolutely perfect episode. Only thing missing was Jim.
"you ever put my boards in a trashcan?" hahaha classic
Best episode so far!! Klein has been one of my favorite skaters and my favorite skate artist for the last several decades. My daughter asked me what my all time favorite graphic was around 5 years ago. Her re-creation of the bug graphic has hung in my bedroom ever since. Thank you for a lifetime of inspiration Jeremy
I still have a hook ups sticker on the front of my stem on my Klein mountain bike from the 90’s and yes, I still skate too. Thank you for such a rad documentary about an even radder skater.
Anytime I hear under pressure, I get an amazing nostalgic feeling! Thank you Heath and Jeremy!
Thank you everyone that contributed to this content
Thank you for this Patrick.
Jeremy Klein absolutely is the most underrated skater in the history of street skating. For me, starting skateboarding in the early 90s he was someone I looked up to in terms of creativity in skateboarding, and doing all that with so much speed! Much deserved episode and much appriciated by me! ❤
This dude is one of the coolest guys ive ever heard of no inflated ego or need for attention i wish i had a friend like him.
"what are you the most proud of out of your skate career?"
"that im still skating now" BRUH
That was a great quote
i felt that in my SOUL
@@bugglemagnum6213 DID YOU? WOW
That's the realest shizz a veteran skater could say.
THAT quote 🙏🏼 still slamming happily after all those years ❤
Such a great episode. My first Transworld had the Jeremy Klein interview in it and i was hooked! Just loved the style and how he did his tricks. I still have my Klein Birdhouse board from way back. I think it was his second board and such great memories of fun times.
I wish this had more seasons. Such great stories from guys I looked up to in my youth. I love I grew up in the 80s and 90s era of SKATE OR DIE!
It’s wild right before Ron said “….id probably be a full time criminal.” I had the same thought. Skateboarding was there at such formative and pivotal times of growth. I’ve done it most of my life and it has def saved me a number of times. I love it
It was oddly wholesome when Klein was throwing Patrick in the bushes.
Pat was really enjoying that
Klein and Heath’s part in The End blew my mind and ruined me for what “shared parts” meant forever, haha.
Nobody did it like them since.
I’m glad to hear his story told!
so stoked for this. These shows are so fkn good. Great skaters getting covered lately. I grew up skating in NYC in the 90s and loved all these guys. .
Fantastic episode, hits on a lot of levels, loaded with great skate clips from all of them, keep up the good work.
Great episode! I've seen them all and this one is done really well.
Jeremy and all my favorite skaters in this. Klein, Greco, and Chatman keeping the skating spirit alive
Jeremy Klein & Ron Chatman Rubbish Heap part was on a loop before skating for about 3 months when I was a kid. Rubbish was raw, no polish, no music/very little. It felt organic compared to Powell.
I love that he is still a Nintendo fan. When I was growing up in the 90s there was something about Skateboarding and Nintendo that went hand in hand. Not so much these days but yeah it was cool
I was thinking of hanging up my board...skateboarding has gotten so lonely because anyone I share this type of connection with has grown up and apart. Got news an old friend had passed today. Then I watched this and remembered how that part in the end made me feel...I remembered skating in a suit and limo green tie..maybe I won't hang up my board just yet...maybe
Never give up bro keep pushing
I grew up in the '00s and '10s. Klein was a legend to those of us that worshipped at the altar of Andrew Reynolds, Eric Koston, and Jerry Hsu. He was almost a myth.
It's so great to see him in this man, and it almost brought me to tears. I don't even skate anymore.
Im so stoked i bought the veggies board, so badass! The feeling that the one purchase made an impact or promoted more materials for more boards. Hats off to "Destroying America" and "the End". some of skateboardings best personality traits are the creation and the gnarly! Jeremy represents and respects both of them very proudly.
Love that Patrick is doing these again. Best docuseries ever
Didn't know Jeremy was such an innovator, so many sick tricks done by this dude!
Didn't know about his character.
Patrick you're doing an incredible job with this series, it brings a tear to my eye at the end of each episode. To you 🍻
JK industries has THE BEST boards in the industry. His 8.6 Ron Chatman board is my all time favorite along with his 8.55 shaped board. I have been skating his boards for the past 8 years. Never stop making them Jeremy.
I can't express enough how I look forward to each episode _
this is gold. this should be played on museums of skateboarding. well made O'Dell
Probably my favorite episode. Born in ‘91 and a fan of Jeremy since ‘91.
I've been wanting to see Jeremy Klein featured for YEARS, how did I miss this?? I'm really happy to see him again, other than promoting his boards on insta you don't hear much from him anymore. Awesome.
Legend, so glad this back!!!
The hook ups tour section in 411 introduced me to the pixies as a kid. Thank you Jeremey.
I was never familiar and now I love this guy. I’m going to watch a bunch of his videos. Great work.
we need a Tony Trujillo episode
2nd that
Definitely
There is one, but its like 13 years old just gotta look it up
they did do one
@@freshmindla5138 I don’t think there is one. You are thinking of another series maybe? I’m almost certain there is no Tony t epicly laterd
This is the best thing you've ever done, Patrick. Jeremy is my all time favourite. You made my year, thanks so much.
I started in 99 and I had no idea what legend he was / is. His love for skateboarding is inspiring. He fucking rips. What a great episode.
Much deserved! loved seen Heath!, wish Greco would of been part of it
Them hook-ups videos and the art style of JK industries is absolutely legendary 🔥
I remember the erotic manga graphics. At that time I was in full puberty and they were the best!! haha. The fact that they were printed on a skateboard made it double cool for shure.
I'm 36 now but I remember saving lunch money to buy a couple of hook ups shirts and I would wear them under my Hanes zip up hoodie and un zip it when the coast was clear😅 I was in middle school then and those shirts were banned along with certain birdhouse or Baker shirts..... good times
I’m also 36 and remember when my middle school banned billabong because it said bong lol. The good old ccs and zumiez days.
@@DavidBarbaro-ng7bq yeah I had a active right next to my house but yeah ccs was sick too
@@DavidBarbaro-ng7bq lol, instead of teaching you about the hydrological feature called a billabong they fearmongered over weed, american education at its finest
I definitely had to turn a few shirts inside out in middle/high school.
The End was the first video I ever saw. This was so nostalgic and is one of my favorite episodes... nice work!
can we get an updated epicly later'd of Antwon Dixion? Please and thank you! !
I have always loved Jeremy Kleins skating so much!!! Stoked to see this!!!
Thank you Vice, thank you Jeremy for doing this.Met him a few times, talk regularly now...one amazing underrated skater and he DOES have a heart of gold.
the “if i could turn back time” section in the hookups vid, may be the most moving part in all of skateboarding media
absolutely, Mark Gonzales, Keith Kirchart, Klein, Willy Santos all in the same video
Having Brandon Dicamello in that video was wild
Within the last couple days now, I've seen videos on Ed Templeton and Jeremy Klein -so nostalgic, thank you!
I remember the Big Brother article with Jeremy, Heath, and Willy in Tokyo for Hook-Ups. It was hilarious writing and Hook-Ups are still cool. All I wanted was to be around the Jeremy/Heath chaos so badly as a 15 year old at that time. The End was hyped to the moon and the team delivered.
Best EL episode yet.. Jeremy is a legend
This was as awesome as I expected it to be. So good to see Ron Chatman. He was a favorite of mine back in the day. Fantastic as always 👍👍🍻
i love that willy is being interviewed at webb park. iconic spot
I caught that too!
Exactly! I caught that as well.
Love JK and his outspoken dry humour.
Levi!!!
This is such an effing good series 🙏
Love the episode! Would love to see Willy to get Jermey on curb wars.
I still imagine jeremy klein whenever I nosepick or backsmith anything. legend. its so good to see he's still making boards, ima try to get one for sure
one. of my favorite skaters from back in the day
Thank you vice.I've,quite literally, been waiting for a Jeremy Klein something, anything really, for fuqqin YEARS.
All we need now is a three hour, bang up to date,Neil Blender documentary because, quite frankly, the lack of Blender tributes, after all that man has done, blows my fuqqin mind, then I can die happy.
NEIL BLENDER SOMEBODY PLEASE?
Kleins pop is MENTAL,absolutely MENTAL!!!
With Grosso gone, we need Klein.
Klein for love letters. That’s a shoe-in.
yes.
I fail to see the connection. Those are 2 very different gens and type of skaters.
@juvedoo99 I'm very sure that happened mostly because Grosso was part of the Vans family, as it was Vans themselves who did the series.
Also, with JK running not 1 but 2 brands, it's very unlikely for something remotely close to that happening.
It's a miracle this Epicly Later'd happened at all.
@@dylives7667 I’m not referring to the style or discipline of skateboarding. I’m referring to their attitude towards the sport.
Thank for this. Jeremy was one of my skateboard heros growing up. Glad to see he was able to tell his story.
Love these so much, can’t wait to check this episode out!
One of my absolute favorite skaters growing up. Thank you for this.
Jeremy Kline is the raddest
These documentaries are wonderful.
"Hi! I'm Jeremy Klein and this is my friend Ron Chapman! He's 18, I'm 18......"
Klein still got it baby! I love his spirit! Forever young in the mind!
I skated from 87-92. Last trick I learned was the 360 flip. I remember seeing Klein do those kick flip grabs back then and they looked so cool. Best times of skateboarding imo.
incredible, thank you for continuing this series!
Rad interview. Jeremy was my second favourite street pro after Matt Hensley.
Every skater should know what he contributed to skateboarding
Reminder of early street skate years ,how a skate jam was a way of getting to all the brotherhood going .Props! Mctists and methods ,judos and madonas ,stalefish was wicked and always will be. Killer graphics became eye candies .
These are my skate idols as a kid in this era and now decades later social media allows me the access to be able to chat with the legends. Fuckin Love Klein!!! JKIndustries all day.
Man this is a great fucking video, I had forgotten just how damn good he was. Thanks so much for making this doc of Jeremy, a lot of these younger skaters need to see that even in the early 90's skating was getting so Tech. Great Great watch my friends!!
Most excitement I've had in months. Klein is the MAN. Love his skating and graphics. Ron Chatman too!
16:44 perhaps the best backside 360 ever done.
