Hey man! I enjoyed this challenge but as a biology teacher I have to say : The mushroom part was stupid and dangerous. It is so easy to poison yourself with mushrooms. What makes it even worse is that many mushroom posionings wear off after a few hours but will kill you ~1 week later (damaging your internals without you even knowing it until its to late). The first one (brown one looking like a brain) is prob. Ascotremella faginea, the last one is most likely a variety of Trametes, from the looks of it Trametes versicolor. Once again awesome video and kudos for taking the challenge but please don't eat mushrooms without knowing 100% what you got, believe me it is really easy to get decived and somehow (at least here in germany) still ~100 people die in a year from eating one single species of mushroom that even kids in school learn not to touch (Amanita phalloides - called deathcap for a reason). We want to enjoy more of your videos in the future and you surely want to enjoy the rest of your life! Tight lines!
Can’t believe he just ate a random mushroom. I’m pretty sure the likelihood of eating a poisonous one is much higher than the likelihood of finding an edible one

I didnt go looking for edible fungi without s book or an expert (who read any of the plethora of books with pictures (all ov them except very old ones which had/have detailed drawings. Theres no excuse if you go picking fingi in blind ignorance of their suitability. When i nearly dies thru wrongly picked mushrooms combined with lies ...an unwitting Guinea pig, the 1'st 3 days after the first 12 hours from eating them, were worse, my liver &/or kindeys had swollen to such a degree, the hospital doc said, that my lungs were compressed & impeded to such an extent, that i could only take many tiny breaths & with extreme pain ; my vision went very dark ...on & off in waves, that was the worse 2 dsys of my life, with common sense (i temporarily lost back then) there's no excuses to get poisened on fungi

Those mushrooms are not hen of the woods but turkeytail... they can be used for tea but not really great to eat. Mushrooms you really need to be 100 percent on. You can do serious damage to your organs with a id mistake. I do a ton of mushroom hunting and still only have 5 species I am confident enough to eat!

For sure Turkey Tail. I believe the purple mushroom from before is a Blewit. Ground mushrooms are so much more complicated than tree mushrooms. There’s really no deadly look alikes to the edible tree mushrooms. Anyone looking to get into mushrooming should start there. Oysters, Chicken, and Hen of the woods are safe starts.

I really hope you read this, as someone who does mushroom hunting I need to warn you to NEVER put edible and non edible mushrooms in the same container, the spores or small pieces can fall into the fins of the edible ones and cause you to get sick, or in some cases with certain very toxic species of mushroom death. This is never an acceptable practice

I’m pretty positive that those mushrooms in the end were not hen of the woods, but actually turkey tails. Luckily they are still edible but very tough and there’s a couple of look alikes. Be careful with your identifications because you never know what a mushroom can do to you!
Thats what I was thinking I’m in Wisconsin and hunt mushrooms a lot so I was like oh sh*t that is not hen of the woods haha
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing, if you aren't sure about something that can be dangerous then its best to avoid it. Like with snakes and spiders, one false identification can be your last.

If I was doing this challenge and a stranger offered me a nice meal, I'd probably take it and keep the footage up to that point as a failed attempt (assuming there's enough content for a video). I'd still try to complete it later and post the failed attempt right before the successful run. I'm surprised you were willing to continue even after breaking both rods. Love the vids, man.

Black Walnuts are delicious after they are processed properly. It requires work work here in the south east because of the humidity. In Salt Lake City, where I grew up they dried on the ground. I ate a lot of them growing up. Luke, from "The Out Doors Boys" RUclips Channel has a video on how process them here in the South East.

ill tell you, i have my own microrod and went out to san diego last summer, and the most random fishing tournament happened at the pier i was going to every morning, so i signed up and started fishing, a few hours in a and the tournament ends, i checked in the 15 mackerel to the front desk and was givin fourth place over all since a few dudes caught a thresher shark, i was proud to show that even the tiniest rods can do the trick
