  • Today we will be learning how to size a rubber strap with a deployant clasp. This strap type is used on the Islander Sands Point (SPT) model. The most important take away is "measure twice, cut once".

    Speaking as a person who doesn’t always cut straight with a razor, I would put that strap down flat on a cutting board, put the razor edge along the entire length of the groove, and then push down and cut. Holding the two perpendicular the way you did makes me nervous that the super aharp blade will veer off to one side or the other, making an ugly cut that might spoil a link.

      I was wondering -can you use a pair of small scissors to cut the strap? I don't have the steadiest hand in the world when it comes to using a razor.

    Exactly what I needed to know. I used a big scissors to cut the rubber instead. If using knife, you need a cutting surface but not with scissors.

    Hey Marc, just got my green Kelp in today and love it! Light weight and very comfortable too. No problem, with an exacto knife, to size the rubber strap. Ryan nailed this design on the dial!❤ ❤

    I’d love to buy one of those straps a la carte in 20mm lug width. Navy/dark blue and grey would be great color options too if these straps are ever made available a la carte. I’ve been looking for something like this online, and there aren’t many great options. Many of the nicer options are so specifically made to go with a Submariner or Longines diver in ways that would look out of place on another brand.

    The first step I do is move the micro adjustment pin to the center hole, so I size the rubber in a way that I can move the micro pin either way.

    Thanks for the video! I wish you explained how important buckle positioning is so that watch stays stable and balanced on wrist. Most wrists require a shorter inside (6oclock) strap to center buckle properly. I assume that’s why both sides come with differing lengths?

    Hi Marc. I'm not sure if you've answered this before, but feels like this video is as good a time as any to ask. Do you size a watch to a particular wrist and then only wear it on that wrist? Or do you keep them so they could be worn on either. I know most people have slightly different sized wrists so I was curious.

    • @DarrenBates
      @DarrenBates Год назад

      Was just about to ask this. I always feel like my wrists are completely different - something sized for the left could never fit comfortably on the right and vice versa!

    • @islandwatch
      @islandwatch  Год назад +1

      I find that my left wrist, being dominant, is indeed slightly larger. So if it's a bracelet watch, I'm congnizant of it and will generally dedicate it to one wrist. For straps, elastic, etc, I can just adjust normally for either.
      Some watches, like big, bulky watches, I generally only wear on my right.

    Excellent video. Do you know if that strap has curved ends? If so can a guy buy that exact strap and delpoyant? Less the watch. This would be great on my Damasko DK32 Ocean. Cant find anything until this video. My Sinn U50S black curved strap fits but Sinn do not offer a blue like that. I definitely want curved ends to hug the case and avoid the gap. Thanks and look forward to your comment

  • @tiagodvt

    Thank you for the video! Shouldn't the straps have some metal "cylinders" inside the holes? I mean, I generally see those with those types of straps, and it sure helps with the durability.

    • @islandwatch
      @islandwatch  Год назад

      I have seen that as well; it helps to keep stuff out, but isn't necessary. The watches I own that have those (Sinn) the bars come out on their own and I'm always pushing them back in.

    Very helpful video, Marc, thank you. Two questions:
    Can you use shears rather than a razor blade to cut the band?
    Would you consider putting out a version of the same strap with a regular buckle for those of us who don't want to have to do this surgery? This royal-blue color in particular would be a nice addition to your regular FKM bands.

    • @islandwatch
      @islandwatch  Год назад +2

      You can, but you'll want a blade to clean it up.
      We have straps with regular buckles that will fit. Such as BRAC-16, 17, 23, 24
