Hey Joe. I've watching you now for over 2 yrs. I am still amazed how you do what you do. Skills. Timing. Can't get enough of your videos. Fix it. Sell it. Keep it. Doesn't matter as long as it works. lol Keep um coming. You will have that shop one day soon. And I'll be here watching too.
I think I know
😂😂 titles are getting a lil over board.
“Bought for 2 doll hairs”
“Engine rebuild in split second”
The algorithm loves it!!!!!
❤❤❤❤
I used to have a 2006 blaster, when we bought it it had zero compression, you could push the kick starter down with a single finger. But some how we got it to start and it ran for 3-4 more months with no compression, then we rebuilt it. But she was a beast
Blasters have compression release (I think) so you can kick start it very easily
My cousins Blaster only smoked when it was cold... We played with his Blaster for 6 years and that thing never skipped a beat ! And we gave it hell and it took every ounce of it ! The memories on this thing are just going bonkers seeing your video ! Thankx man !
2 strokes always mostly only smoke when there cold🤦♂️
Not really ... they should always smoke a little if jetted correctly but not be a full blown mosquito fogger
@@kartracer5g229 Maxima Super M doesn't smoke when warm. But it sure smells good with race gas.
Yamahas rock! No doubt. I have a '10 YFZ450R & '21 Raptor 700R-SE. Love em. Both less than 10hrs . Mint. Plan keep em for life. Grab one while you can! #MaximaOils
@@carsonlambert7852 they ALWAYS smoke they have premix oil in fuel but smoke the most cold...yes.
. I installed a 10.3:1 piston in my daughter's Yamaha blaster and did a port n polish and also did a little head work. Installed a 34mm carb and throttle body, went a tooth taller up front, put 22 inch tall rear and 23 up front. Also machined the air intake to accept a YZ250 reed cage. It will eat a Polaris scrambler 400cc 2-stroke on take off and top end. It will do over 70mph stock was just 55mph.
That's crazy fast for the squirrelly handling Blaster
I truly believe the 200 blaster engine is one of the best engines ever made. Couple of my buddies had them growing up, we used to beat the ever living dog sh*t out of them, and they would just eat it up and ask for more. Such a fun, fast, and incredible little atv
My favorite colors for the blasters and banshees is purple and yellow but I don’t trust those oil injection systems myself I block em off and premix my own gas.
Never seen an issue. I'm a Yamaha tech since 89
@@4thdimensiontravels855 ive seen quite a few fail and fry the top end on Polaris as well I know they can be reliable but I’ve seen them fail and would rather mix my own to each their own I’m not a tech but have been working of bikes and atvs for around 20 years
@travels I've only owned two auto lubes ... 74 GT 80 and 94 Blaster. Never an issue with lubes system.
I have four boys they all have blasters one of the first things I do is delete that oil injection and run a pre mix I’ve always had bad luck with that
You were due for an easy fix !! If Joe can't figure it out, I'm thinking it probably can't be fixed lol
2 things:
1. I'm surprised that your parents still have grass around their house 🙂
2. You own a Tundra. I can see you're a wise man. 😉
Great video! Glad to see you got it repaired without too much trouble. Thanks man!
Love seeing these little blasters being brought back to life SUBSCRIBED!! 👍🏻
If your having troubles with hard bolts or screws always remember give it a slight tight turn than turn to break loose I use to strip heads all the time so I’ll act as if I’m tightening them more and than back it out always worked no issue
You should also get a gasket superscraper from Mortske on RUclips they are hand made buy his guy so they are sold out a lot but they are amazing for scraping gasket material off
Any plastic scraper for loose stuff followed up with scotch brite cleans really well for sealing surfaces.
Hey Joe. Hope all is well. Love your videos. I have a tip for you for the float bowl screws get a JIS screw driver . Japanese industrial standard. You will never roll or round off another one. The fitment is just way better
Or you can go to Lowes and replace cross tips with allens
@@Rod-db8tt Wait, 'Phillips' screws? Almost had a stroke trying to grasp 'Cross screws'
Result all day long joe great fix again mate great quads take care buddy you sure are hammering these out big time 🔧🔧👍👌🔧
I learned to rebuild on those engines. Still have a couple nice cylinders from years ago.lol.
Miss my little blaster
Miss mine too
So it was rebuilt, yet they had an air leak on the reed cage, the emulsion tube was in upside down, the carburetor was flooding, and the throttle cable was binding. Doesn't make sense but good job.
And that's why only myself works on my cars and OHV's 😊
RTV on a Reed cage oh my!
Unfortunately it's necessary with the oem cage due to a common issue with air leak at the intake. Yamabond or threebond is the sealant of choice with blaster guys. Also not over torquing the cage bolts prevents warping.
"I found a big air leak but let's see if it's these other things causing the problem" I know you gotta kinda do that to make a good video but that's all I could think lol
28:16 Those tires sound like an air raid siren lol
That one yellow wheel just triggers my OCD! lol
There is no RTV on a blaster Reed cage from the factory so the parts are worn out and need to be replaced is correct way also I've owned a few blasters and they ran perfect also no RTV so it's a hack just face it
it surprises me the amount of times you run smokey 2 cycle engines in your garage with the door shut...cancer bad...
I always open the door up and try not to breath it in. I'm pretty careful. I let the whole garage clear out before re-entering. But yeah it's definitely a concern for me. I'm going to have to get some better ventilation.
Are you serious? Why are people so paranoid about shit. That little bit of smoke is not going to hurt you.
I have a carbon monoxide detector and swamp cooler that I run on fan with garage door cracked open. When alarm goes off I open the door all the way!
I love my 01 blaster. Easiest, most reliable fun in my opinion. I ride my hard almost every weekend. Not a single hiccup
Concur ... started off on new Blaster in 94 no issues after 4 years. Only thing I don't like about them is short wheelbase. I looped that thing a few times trying to concur steep hills whereas our current YFZ and Z 400 just powers up same hills effortlessly.
they are fun small bike
Nice Joe- cool trick you can use carb cleaner or brake cleaner and spray around the area that you suspect is leaking and the idle with shoot up
That's exactly what I was thinking
You should do a full blaster build
Wish I didn’t sell my blaster
Your really good at this is this your job?
Another good easy fix for u buddy hope all is well hiiii from uk
I had a blaster with a vitos racing 240 big bore with a 20 thousand milled head, Boyesen reeds, 30mm carb and dg pipe. The thing was an absolute Animal. I would squish on the throttle in 3rd gear and it would wheelie effortlessly.. although it only had the top speed of a stock 400ex after all these mods. but it was a very fun little bike
very nice mods 👌🏻 did you change gearing? that helps with top speed
Wow I bet that thing had some power
@@crboi6440 yes i think it was geared 14/38.. the gearing was maxed out with the factory rear sproket hub I remember.. the bike would Rev to the moon unlike my 85 lt250r
@@2vintage it definitely had power for the size of the bike
Dg pipe was choking it out with all that power too. A dynoport woulda changed the whole quad.
Blaster's are such cool little machines. My 95 was tons of fun and just barely fast enough to be exciting yet almost anyone could ride it.
Would love to have had one.Good job with this find!!
One of my favorite machines
Joe, stop pressing that thumb throttle while trying to start a cold engine, full choke, no throttle!
2 stroke needs throttle, not to be left idling too long
@@christophermhudson09 true but he said when starting
@@landontillman8077I've never heard nor seen anyone use full choke and no throttle to start a 2 stroke...ever.
One of the easiest quads to work on. I had a bunch of them when younger. It will probably be my son's next quad also
I’ve recently been trying to get my 1998 blaster better and I thinking of replacing the carburetor. Do you know how to remove the oil deliver hose that connects to the back side? Because I havnt figured that out. And if I remove that am I able to reinstall it on a new one? Or would I have to pre mix the fuel?
Ok. It runs like crap... Camera shuts off... Comes back on and it is running 90% better with no explanation on why it's running better except for. "It was the carb". Please explain what happened between 17.24 and 17.44 to make it run so much better. Thanks!
Will you be putting this quad up for sale? If so, where do I get information regarding the sale? Thanks
Great quad..I remember riding bitch on 1 from a woods party 1 nite back in the school days gtn chased by cops.Great woods machine all I need 2 say..lol..b safe.peace
Are you friends with your connecting neighbors I hope so because that would be tuff to live that close and them not be ok with it if so they are great neighbors
Wonder if the previous owner is a Laker Fan 🤣🤣
I am considering buying one of these from my sisters fiancé. I saw it run once years ago, it’s been sitting outside for a while now.
It has low compression, about 70 psi. It has good spark and that’s about the only thing it really has going for it.
He also has a “parts” one that has a seized motor. He wants $100 for the two of them. Should I take them?
Just from quickly looking at it today It’s going to definitely need a top end at minimum, tires, fuel line, seat, clutch(when I pull the clutch in it gets stuck), exhaust boot, and the brake lines/ master cylinder has no fluid at all. Any fed back on it is greatly appreciated!!
$100 for both? I wouldn’t pass them up for that price, shoot if you get them and it begins to be too much or maybe your not comfortable fixing the one you could part out the good parts and probably get your $100 back fairly easy
@@Cody_4 yeah $100 for the both. The parts one isn’t complete. I saw it run probably 10 years ago for a few seconds then the motor locked up. Yeah that’s what I was thinking, I could always get my money back especially with used market right now. I don’t know how it is out your way but you can’t find any deals. For dirtbikes you can’t find and 250’s that’s are under 3 grand, and they are 1998-2002 that need work
@@matthewschlegel22 I would snatch them up and see what you can do with them, try to put 1 together with as much as you can from both and see what else you would need to make 1 good one, if it looks like it won’t be worth it start parting them out. Yeah I’m in the mid-south, Tn to be exact and prices around here or within driving distance are crazy high. Either really nice and sky high price or something that’s been beat to shit and they still want an arm and a leg for it lol
You should buy a IV pole then you can hang one of those cylindrical gravity feeding gas tanks to hang from the IV pole lot easier to test start with oh it’s an auxiliary gas tank they’re both about $40 each but handy
Yup, test tank is so handy ... saves tons of time! I just hang mine from end of garage door rails
Been there done that. I know this ATV like the back of my hand. 😂
Tors system malfunction or Parking brake sensor. Classic symptoms. My guess would be the later, it it is still there.
I gotta tell you man your one of the best I've seen. You can basically get anything running. I wish you were closer to me i have a couple cars i need work done on lol. If you can fix small engines you can fix anything i'm sure. Keep up the great work and great content I really enjoy it.
Yea he is dam good mechanic im have all kinds of problems with my yz125 2003 every week it breaks this last time i couldn't fix it so its at shop i hate shops take to long fix things i wish this guy was my nabor i keep him very busy
That quad is all original right down to tire's & low hour's, seat is barely discolored from wear and plastic is shiney and stickers still on plastics 😀
Thats a nice looking Blaster
My blaster has the same problem. Basically did everything you did but no luck so frustrating. Gonna go out and keep trying tho.
I’ve never seen someone do things so wrong but so right
LOL ... I just love the double bubble epoxy repairs 😊
And how he doesnt shift when he should......i dont understand it. If tht gear isnt pulling anymore shift to the next one!
😂
@2vintage if it stinks a lot of oil from the exhaust then it draws oil through the oil seals on the crankshaft
I’m sure you have herd this before but it’s the gospel truth… The best mod for a Blaster is a TORS and oil injection eliminator kit. I got both of mine dirt cheap off Amazon and they both helped a lot!!!
Exactly... the oil lines almost always get ripped off by branches or harden and cracked and broke and the tors always caused engine performance issues.. first thing I did when I got mine was the tors delete and the oil line delete and mixed at 40/1 and never had an issue with the performance the longevity of the engine or fouling plugs
What is a tors ?
@@silkarsten2748 it's basically a throttle position sensor on a quad .. if it doesn't read the same at the carb as what the throttle input is telling it or any other thing is wrong it won't let the engine run or if it does run it will run like garbage
@@kartracer5g229 thank you for response
@@silkarsten2748 no problem
it doesnt have a powerband???
So what was the problem exactly ? I have a same situation and did all I can and still persist. I suspect the reed cage leaking a little. Could that be the issue ? The jets are unknown to me, I don't see the numbers on them either. It idles perfect, but no power bogs in gear. Somebody suggested a needle C-clip adjustment. I checked and the c-clip is in the middle position and there are 2 plastic washers under it. Also there is a half moon shaped throttle cable bracket. How is it supposed to go into the barrel ? Covering the small hole or allowing it to be open ? So many tiny variances on this carb and I feel that I am missing a small part and that is my issue. I will remove the jets and see if I can see the numbers on them.
The engine runs fine at idle, starts well and revs good but once in gear, it has no power and bogs down. I played with the idle screw (2 turns out is factory) and air mixture screw (1.5 turns is factory) both makes tiny changes, but no fixes.
I went from 1/5 turn to 2.5 turn on 1/4 turn increments on the air mixture screw and the more in seemed to do some good but then once hit 1 turn in, the power completely disapeared.
Ya the blasters are pretty fast for it only being 200cc. They are a good woods bike
Imagine if they had a power valve 😲
@@Rod-db8tt dt200 swap a blaster lol. easy swap just hrad to find the motor
Would not be a 2 vintage video without break out the rattle can paint🤫🤫
I wouldn’t buy one of those unless I already had an engine rebuild in mind. The crank seals go bad real easy on those from my experience.
why don't you get a small lift so you don't have to be bent over all the time, it will save on your back
When I got orders to go back overseas in '98 I had to sell my '94 Blaster and '70 Dodge Challenger SE ... some of the worst decisions I've ever made in my life😥
Oh wait there's another .... when we returned in late '02 I was looking at Z 400, Raptor, and Banshee. I settled for Z 400 but should've got the Banshee. 😂
It all panned out in the end because our Z is still a trouble free old man's quad!
Good job!!! Always enjoy your video’s
You are fantastic brother..love it
Man you know how to find them 2300 dollar quad I would keep it there getting hard to find not all destroyed for a good price I would do some led upgrades some nerf bars and get a spare seat cause that purple seat is mint.
These people really trying to give tips to the man who fixed the ATV 🤣 crazy as hell.. keep doing you Joe 👍
i have a 02 yamaha blaster it starts fine 1st kick but when i accelerate it does not rev up i change the carburetor, stator, cdi, coil, spark plug and i did mess with the ignition timing but i’m not sure please up
My 02 blaster wont get any fire or will not start has a little compression. Do you kno what that would be ?
Without reading ahead, I am going to take a guess that either the read valves are half missing, even though it was just rebuilt, or it literally has no main jet in it.
Paint the rim to match and if that’s a original purple quad it’s one of 500
Damn that thing is wack, my blaster is atleast 3 times as powerful, my blaster totally destroys my trimmed 350 raptor
wait, that a STOCK BLASTER?
stock rims, stock dunlop tyres, no cut fenders, not repainted (dont know about the rims yellow or purple im confused i guess its yellow stock), woow that things is a museum piece those tyres look like new
I know its kinda picky but I think if you can find the right color you should match that yellow wheel outside with the purple color and that way the whole bike looks proper and it's alot cooler too!
I have watched many of your videos and this may be a stupid question. Have you ever done a motor swap? Like an 1100 onto a three or four wheeler?
Looks like the gaskets for the carb boot is messed up
You can bypass that thors deal with an 8 dollar amazon throttle cable.
That's a blaster for you hard to start.
Blasters are fun I got an 03 that needs rebuilt, you should line that blaster up against the 300ex or 250x and see what is quicker
TORS DISCONNECTED
Its a great bike for sure.
I need help with my blaster it starts easy idles but bogs hard mid to high rpm
Pumps are pressure operated.
Where did you get the small bottles for gas?
I bought a 2005 yamaha blaster and im having problems
It’s have airbox no lid stock fatty with DG Silencer right now rev good in neutral but when im ridding it feel like dont have enough power when it’s full throttle……
Btw what jets i need for that setup ?
This guy! $1000? Yeah that's a great deal! Lmfao! Maybe at most $500... But hey, stupid is as stupid does....
Wish you lived closer and you could take a look at my yz250f... been working on it for a month straight and still can't get it to fire ... new rings piston and cylinder
on my 01 blaster did the tors delete and oil too but bogs when u hit it unless u rev it high enough it will hit power band any idea?
These videos you have claiming you bought and fixed something in 10 minutes are so misleading. It may have taken you 10 minutes to fix, but it certainly took you longer to find the issue.
Fix that noise silencer. Needs back put back on probably doesn't have guts anymore either.
I got a question for u my blaster was out of nowhere lost spark took me a while to figure it out I changed the coil and spark plug and cdi and fixed it but then after rideing for 20 mins and parked it I wouldn’t kick start but was still getting spark and fuel and has compression so I removed the carb completely cleaned it put it back together and I took the reeds out put new ones in and new gaskets put all back together and still won’t kick start but it will pull/push start and runs great got tons of power but wouldn’t stay running unless I keep giveing it a little throttle so I turned the idle up I think this may be cause the tors system has been removed so it stays running but when ya shut it off after being pull started it still dose the same thing it won’t kick start no matter how many times I try I’d kick that thing till my leg about falls off lol and it’s not the kicker leaver eitherr I checked or crank case seal I did compression test but I can pull start it in 20 feet easy and like I said run and rides great I just can’t seam to figure out what the problem is why it won’t kick start have u ran across this issue before ? Got any advice on how to fix it I’m a mechanic myself own run an small engines shop and I got to say I’m stumped about to the point where I’m ripp the motor off it and through it in my used parts storage and build a death Machine put a gsxr 600rr motor on it I got laying around
@2vintage I have a 2000 yamaha blaster I think I may have a good quad for a video for u so when I first got it its wouldn't stay running I cleaned the carb of what I thought was a good job but when I go thru the gears and go to pull the clutch to downshift it wants to shut off
wow never heard one sound that much like a crappy lawnmower!
This is whats wrong with my bike yz125 2003 the o ring on neadle is bad here i drop it off at shop i should have check that o ring dam im stupid
Back In 2000 we bought 2 brand new. Alot up grades on 1 but not the other 1 an we beat both 2 death an kept going an going. I'm now looking for another 20yrs later.
I give it to you I'm just starting your videos but I would say change the spark plug to a brand new one immediately clean the air filter or play canon in go ahead get your carburetor pulled out and clean it fully every port make sure jetted correctly make sure the Thor movie with done correctly bypass the oil injection get a delete kit right away and I bet you a million dollars it'll run right
I've had 2 blasters. An 03 and 01 and they both ripped!!
I'm wondering if it's getting trans oil in crank area, bad seal maybe.the stuff that came out looked like gear lube diff oil. Seen it before.
probably clutch side crankshaft seal, or the gasket between the engine casings
I am restoring a 91 blaster that's been put up for atleast 12 years. I got it running and drives good but you have to have the accelerator turned or else it dies. There is no idle just go. Any ideas?
I'f it's not smoking it could be the oil injection system I always ran the Vito's block off kit and mixed my gas they run better that way
Someone needs to invent a Philips and straight blade impact tool and not just the hammer style
Watched one of these beat everything it came across in Missouri one summer.
Idle needs to be turned down a bit. But other than that, that's a nice quad Joe.... Really clean. Great find.
