The movement of the dance inspired by horse spirit. To see this preformed with pride and honor overwhelmed me with joy. Hugs to all for making it! Dang
All of the participants are incredible. I wish the ancestral dances and ceremonies didn’t come down to competitions. They are are so beautifully unique in their own right in each of the tribes. 🫶💓🫶
Just beautiful! I have never seen nor was aware of the Horse Dance. I feel deeply moved to learn more about the horse traditions. There was a cool talk on NativeCalling on Horses in the Americas. THANK YOU for the gift to see all the tribes together dancing strong! The drums really made me feel some how; ) Blessings to all and our Mother Earth. Safe journeys and good road songs!
Thx for sharing. Very educational for those who want to know more about Native American Cultural. I have Cherokee and Mohawk blood. I live in West Virginia where my ancestors have been since before the Revolution. They were pioneer settlers. AHO
All throughout the world and history, a gathering of tribes, families was a time of trading ideas, measuring the execution of traditions, rituals, dress with each tribe expressing it's take on the shared culture. Dancers would compete for the attention of the opposite sex; riders would compete for bragging rights....prizes were won, bets were made.....since the dawn of man...all over the world. The Scots competed in contests of strength, sword dancing and the dances on shields. Aztecs had ritual ball games, pitting warriors of different tribes against each other....losers were enslaved or sacrificed. It's about being human.
But ppl travel to go powwow. Sometime a long way. I don't blame them for wanting to win for something they love and are good at. Probably cost alot for 3 day weekend powwow
From my understanding the original dance comes from a Lakota family and the first horse dancer was mu Robert's since then they been popping up credit to him and his families old ways.
This is the first time I've ever seen this. I'm from Oklahoma. Funny thing, but the first time I ever saw chicken dance was at gathering 2006. It's popular in Oklahoma now. They used to mix the chicken dancers with the grass dancers but since there are so many they usually get their own catagory now. Horse dance looks awesome. I can tell it's from up north.
I disagree w negative comments! We just lost our entire herd as we were snowed in this winter to local sheriff and local addicted people! We won't stand for this treatment! Love and Light from Southwest Colorado, Dine' ! Our land and Animals will return to us! Keep Shining!
I use to hear stories about my great-grandpa when he use to have to horse dances but with actual horses that would come running and start trotting around in the arbor when they began to sing. He was the last the have those around here before some farmers moved closed by and fenced off the area where the horses would come running.
Thank you for sharing this. I thought that was very interesting. I was actually surprised to see the lady dance. She was very beautiful. Did u see no.2313. Omg this kid could be a model!! Hes very handsome! LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!!
Such beautiful traditions that we can see, learn about and enjoy. I'm observing how the traditional music is related to the traditional dances. So much respect to everyone 🙏
Wow! this the first time I have seen this kind of Horse dance. we use the real ceremony after a sundance we have a horse dance, with real horses riding , men riding horses and some make their horses dance. it's a scared ceremony.
It was great to see Lakotah horse dancers. But this is why I have the username. My son lives with his dad. I gave him the middle name ‘Lakotah’ so he will not forget he has Native Blood. Was I wrong for that? Was I wrong for giving him a name after a tribe?
Never knew about horse d as nice of course no one talked about Indian and their history like alot of our ancestors we were not in th e picture that closes us Thanksgiving where we offered our food and friendships and everything I ng else is faulty if Indian never was true.
Kiowa/ Comanche here, greetings from Oklahoma, I wanna go to gathering of nations but I think you have to be vaccinated, I am NOT and idk if I will ever be, I should have went to this before covid,

Awesome,..my Grandparents gave me my,Indian(Indigenous) name,Red Horse> little red pony.
My dad had a ceremony to give my brother a name. It wasn't chosen by dad. My grandparents weren't alive then. I guess every tribe is different

Would they wear this to battle, or was it ceremonial? I’m sure warriors took favored items.
