hey jarrod, when can we expect m15R7 review? can you also check that dGPU works over TB4 to DP1.4 in your review please? i have seen user complaining about no GSYNC support on Alienware reddit.
I’m also so grateful to see some of your tests to know I’m not crazy. I thought something had to be wrong where the scar 15 beat the ge76 in cpu tests. But it is what it is. I think asus has better cooling and allows it to use more power than MSI
The MSI machine has good thermal headroom, I wouldn't be surprised if you can tweak it in the advanced BIOS to do the best, but I just test stock as I figure that's how most people use it.
Thanks for including latencymon test!! As a music producer i´d highly appreciate that you included this in your review. For me it´s this or the Strix Scar 17. Looking forward to your review on that one.
I bought an ASUS laptop to have off to the side of my PC a few weeks ago and looked up reviews and your channel came up first and i've been enjoying the other content since.
Your precise and exhaustive review helped me choose this laptop and I really don't regret it. Being well informed of its negative or less-than-perfect aspects helped me overcome the deceiption I'd have had should I haven't watched your review, and of course I was welll informed of its srengths and they really didn't deceive me. One issue I had at first and you don't expose is the 15" screen small size which leaves a lot of useless space on the bottom of the lid. Coming from a 15"6 Macbook pro I feel a little tight. Thankfuly, the resolution is absolutely beautiful on my QHD 240Hz model, but it's a little deceiving given the laptop size. Maybe I should have opt for a 17" model but I didn't feel transporting such a monster. I think the Scar line lacks a 16 or 15"6 screen option. Of course the lack of webcam is incromprehensible in 2022 meet/zoom/skype days, I have seen this in all reviews and it's very strange given the Scar is equipped with honnest microphones. Overclocking peoples should pass their way as this laptop have a 12900H locked CPU and its BIOS gives access to ... er, not a lot. Besides, I personnaly think overclocking a laptop is asking for heating problems. What I really appreciate and you describe in your review, and is quite unique on laptops, is the eazy access to profiles of performance and keyboard settings which you can set in a snap with Armoury Crate software, and it's even more pleasant as it has a dedicated key - which you can reassign if you feel it so. As much as this software is almost useless on my desktop ROG motherboard, it's really helpful on this laptop so I can switch between full power and battery saving as needed. You described this so well it also pushed me in choosing this computer. The NFC keystone might look like a gadget as described in your review, but I find it really a great thing in a public place - say at work. It's really useful as you can choose the lock screen action when you unplug it, so when you have to go away from your laptop you can keep it safe by simply keeping your keystone in your pocket. Also you can switch to a game full-power profile when pluging it and even launch a given game. It's really a very nice addition to a gaming laptop that can be used as a strong work machine. I find your performances tests very well done and exposed. They really show the power beast this laptop is. Thanks again for this well-done review!
17:20 I’m not 100% sure on this, but the issues with Pop!OS may either be due to a older Linux kernel incompatible with Intel 12th Gen or Nvidia RTX 3080 Ti. I’d expect Ubuntu 22.04 to fix this with a newer kernel, however, its beta is very unstable at the moment, even on AMD Ryzen 5000 systems…
Popos features kernel 5.15 rn iirc. ubuntu 22.04 will ship with that only. Anyways you would want kernel 5.16+ as it got major perf. gains for alder lake.
Seems like there's no winning and I'll be randomly changing between different OS for a while with the latest hardware based on what does and doesn't work
@@JarrodsTech Do you think a i7 12700h(laptop version) would bottleneck with a 3090 TI RTX on an EGPU enclosure? I want to buy the newest Asus Tuf 15 2022 with that processor and want to do home gaming too and was wondering if you think it would work good with that 3090 TI .. on a 2K screen at medium graphics...I never understand the point to always play on ultra though I understand the principle that it should be playable on ultra settings too, but I personally am not looking to fry my laptops components when I buy it a couple months in ... Thanks!
I do not want windows 11 on my laptop, but I'm still considering the 2022 Scar 15. Is there a way to still have windows 10 on the 2022 Scar 15 with all the proper drivers?
I appreciate you telling people to “expect tearing with Optimus off” I found this out the hard way and am now returning a legion 5 17”for a 16” pro model with g sync.
Some people have commented that with high FPS games and high refresh rate they don't really notice it. I think with G-Sync, it's one of those things that once you've experienced it you notice the difference more when you don't have it, like you get used to it.
Any problems with it ? I heard and saw reviews that closing the laptop causes issues in the cables that go to screen causing weird glitch or static lines
Because this is the best laptop that I’ve actually liked and that works a lot better then my acer nitro 5 rtx3050ti but that screen tear and glitches when closing the laptop or moving it to a 45 degree angle I’ve seen on like 3 or 4 amazon reviews and that’s what’s really keeping me from buying it
I'm shopping for a laptop. I returned the msi katana because the battery life lasted less than 40 mins brand new. How is the battery life on this Asus Strix Scar?
It's so frustrating shopping for laptops right now. Half of the time the TGP isn't listed anywhere so I have no idea if the laptop is a good deal or not. I mean I've seen 3060 laptops performing as good as 3070 laptops because the 3060 is running at 130W vs the 3070 at 100W.
4:33 - I should have paid more attention to this part. I bought this and will probably return it because of exactly what you said. It’s a weird delay of some sort that even my 7 year old Dell XPS doesn’t have. Makes using the touchpad suck. Thanks for the great review, it’s such a great computer if you don’t mind basically never using the touchpad.
3:05 Now Asus has to bring the webcam back next year or they will be non-compliant with Microsoft’s requirements for OEMs of tablets, laptops, and all-in-ones to have a 720p webcam.
Yes, please review the Scar 17" as it comes with a 1440p screen option which I want over 4K, and top specs elsewhere. Its also considerably cheaper than the MSI GE 76 top of the range laptop, Thx
Just adding my vote for the 17" version's review (even when I see Mr. Jarrod'sTech himself already answering with a much welcome positive response to such a request in this same comment's followups: THANKS for all your great work and videos, btw!).
I got G15 10 days ago and I loved it. To be honest I prefer Scar due to its finest black color and translucent section, 3 different colored plastic attachements - overall look and also it is faster. But my budget was not that much to afford Scar so I went for G15. I hope you all guys will get your own high end laptop asap :)
@@shengyaoyap9352 Scar is better than G15 in terms of performance. Only advantage of G15 is its battery longetivity because of amd cpu energy efficiency. If you are gonna play games while plug in then intel cpu is better.
I am actually thinking about buying this laptop but my only fear is thermals, is it ok now? did you find a workaournd? did you try limiting the cpu on manual mode to get less heat or did you find the sweet spot mode for gaming? and does it stutter while gaming with those temps? thank you in advance ^_^
It would be cool if I was in the market for a laptop like this. I don't care much for this thin and light trend for Gaming Grade laptops. If I was into E-Sports then TDP and TGP means a great deal and I wouldn't sacrifice this for thin and light convenience. Great review as always Jared. 👍
@@cameronbosch1213 Well said. I personally opted for the Lenovo Legion 5 (Stingray White Edition) last year which I reviewed on my channel. This year I pre-ordered the Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 so we will see how that goes.
@@cameronbosch1213 Legion 7 hasn't even launched their 2022 version yet! And 2021 version is destroyed in all the benchmarks by 2022 laptops even with their lower end models.
@@apexpredator36 The legion 7 is beaten by this gen's i7 and i9 models only and those models cost hundreds of dollars more. You can pick up a legion 7 for 2200 dollars rn on newegg or maybe even lower in further sales while this scar 15 is 50% more expensive for 10-15% more performance. People say diminishing returns but there is also a limit to diminishing returns
@@apexpredator36 I’m talking about the AMD Ryzen version, which even the 5900HX has better battery life than an Intel 12th gen 28W CPU. For me, the Legion 7 is more than enough even a CPU gen old. And the Corsair iQue issue should be fixed soon and can currently be fixed by removing the service from Windows.
I'm new to the computer tech world and these videos are really helpful. Even just having at the top of the graph "higher is better" is really nice, since I don't always know exactly what's being measured.
I am getting the same spec machine at 60% discount. Should I get this in 2024. Please reply asap it is in limited stock. Thanks 🙏 big fan of your work.
Speaking of MSI BIOS, keep in mind that its undervolting capability, this year, is possible just because you tested the GE76 w/ 12th gen HK version. Alderlake infact has locked any undervolting capability for non HK SKUs (Contrary to 11th gen and before). Since this Scar comes w/ a plain 12900H, it wouldn't have been able to undervolt it anyway, be via BIOS, Throttlestop or Intel XTU.
Yes I am aware that only K series processors support undervolting, it's why I never mention it in any of my videos, it basically doesn't exist anymore.
Yes! Please review the Scar 17. I’m still using the OG Scar 17 with a GTX 1060 as my gaming laptop, and am trying to decide if I should switch to the legendary GE76. Thank you for what you do!!
@@sushimshah2896 Legion 5 Pro and Legion 7 (both with AMD) are the best gaming laptops with AMD Ryzen. And they have a MUX switch, max GPU power limit, and awesome 16:10 and above 1440p screen.
20:08 and 20:15 Wouldn't be better to create a poll asking about this? I've also been curious about how many people care about having a webcam in their gaming laptop for a long time. So... please and thank you?
I have two issues with this laptop which have made me ignore it: 1. Where I live I can only get it with a 1080p screen whereas competitors have a 1440p screen. This may be better in terms of longevity for gaming since you should be able to get usable frame rates for a few more years than at 1440p. However, for work use 1080p is a bit "old school" these days. 2. It has no built in webcam. As far I know it comes bundled with an external webcam, but that doesn't fix the hassle of having to carry it around and connect it just for video calls, which is something that has become pretty common these days.
@Umnumzaan Yes, I use my laptop iconnected to an external monitor most of the time. But a good screen, especially at this price point, is still valued. Regarding, the webcam it has nothing to do with the price. As said, the one that is available where I live has a webcam bundled in the box. It's more a question of convenience. I make several video meetings a week and sometimes I'm not at my desk. So having a built-in camera is quite handy.
Availability is killing me. Have had my eye on the legion 5i pro gen 7 but there’s no stock!!! So now I’m looking to see a great gaming laptop that Jarrod gives kudos to that I can purchase today
I was looking at the M16/G15 for a replacement laptop, but looking at the low wattage on the gpu compared to this, I'm seriously considering it. Top off your head, how much less performance would the 3070 Ti be compared to 3080 Ti? The amazon config with 1080/16gb/1 Tb/3070 Ti seems like a decent price at $2049 ($100 less than equivalent M16).
i am using scar 17 g733zw with 3070 ti, and i can tell so far that this machine is killing it! I have also the best cooling pad so the cpu never goes above 75° and the gpu on cyberpunk @1440p on ultra runs 70 fps at max 73°. When i am capping the fps limit to 60 the gpu runs 60-65°. in europe got it on the deal for 2700€ and for the price and the performance i personally consider it as the best deal i can get. Long live to ROG!
Did the scar 15 2021 really have a mux switch? 1:26 I've looked around and cant find info confirming it? Super awesome video though, just wanted to confirm that. Love your channel your reviews are the best :)!
I always appreciate your detailed reviews, Jerrod. I'm looking to buy an Asus laptop, but with the Scar 15 only having 66.3% Adobe RGB & 68.3% DCI, it was a dealbreaker. I'm also not a fan of the translucent area on top, though I would have overlooked it if the color accuracy had been better.
what are you looking to buy then? I also wanted the Asus Strix Scar 15 ... but idk yet .. still looking around. I kind of want a mechanical keyboard.. I'm also looking at the Alienware m16 R7
buy a g15/g17 then with QHD screen. It has 100% DCI-P3 and 100 SRGB + no translucent top, it has ryzen 6800H/6900HX inside and because of that it also runs cooler and has better battery life
Thank you so much for the best honest review! Now I only have two questions: 1. Is it possible to install or put a camera for the laptop? 2. Does this pc have the opportunity to use CD?
Since I started working in tech I decided to work abroad but before I sold my dektop PC which was quite hard. I got this laptop to enjoy my games and work without issues and is one of the best purchases I've ever made.
Hi Jarrod, after checking 09:37 the battery life I may consider buying the AMD version rather than having the Intel version, a 2.5G Lan port & thunderbolt 4 port is less important than the battery life to me. So how would you comment the gaming performance between the intel version and AMD version on this Scar 15. Don't know whether the 14-cores CPU vs 8-cores CPU makes a big difference when running some 3A games such as Elden ring. Thanks a lot!
Too bad they don’t have a Scar model with AMD; the battery life would likely be much better on an AMD CPU. Not to mention the 2021 Scar missing a MUX switch got me to sell my 2021 Scar for a Legion 7… Great review Jarrod!
@@takimara154 I’d prefer having a MUX switch, high-end screen, Nvidia RTX GPU, and AMD Ryzen CPUs. I don’t want something that can’t run more than 4 hours of battery life, which would be the case with Intel…
Nice. I got the 12900 and 3070 ti qhd version at micro center recently as a desktop replacement. Seems like a good machine so far. For the QHD the screen tearing is barely noticeable due to the high refresh rate, but I didn’t even know it was possible to get adaptive sync with Optimus on. I’ll check that out! It works real well with my desk setup at home as a desktop replacement.
Hi Jarrod! I was so excited to see this review! Please review the 17" Scar as well with (hopefully) the most popular specs i9 + 3070ti+1440P screen! I am also considering between this or the GE76 as well! Thanks a bunch!

@@jackyff8 awesome. It seems the 2080 ti is not worth the extra money. The CPU is not the best, right? That would be the HK version? Where did you buy it and how much did it cost you?
Little late to the party but had to say that from all hardware reviewers you go into every little detail. As a former senior hardware and support engineer I can appreciate that! On top of that you still interact with user on your older videos which is nice. 😊
Thanks for the review of this top-end model. :) I’m wondering: the less expensive model (with the 3060) still uses the same cooling system? (therefore, it could be less noisy in “Performance Mode”) About performance, I probably missed it, but: all games tested are using “Performance Mode”, yes?
I have a 2019 Scar and one of the ribbon cable for the lightbar broke after I added a second SSD. It was very difficult to find a replacement. You have to be very careful with it
started disliking the design of the scar honestly. don't like that bottom bezel near the hinge being split like that. also the stripe near translucent part. I prefer strix version
I'm torn right now between a 2022 Strix Scar 15 or 17 and the 2023 Strix G16... The G16 Has QHD but maxes out at 32 gb... The 2022 Strix Scars have FHD but go up to 64gb.... The other difference is the graphics card, 3070 ti vs. the new G16 has a 4060.... I don't know what to do.. Its my first gaming laptop. I'm torn on 1) the size, is 15" too small to play COD effectively? 2) will the 4060 basically be the same as the 3070ti? and finally, 3) will i regret not having the ability to go up to 64gb (or do i even need 64?) Hoping you can help narrow it down for me... I've been down a rabbit hole for weeks and still haven't pulled the trigger on one, I've purchased and canceled both numerous times worried i'm making the wrong decision... lol.
hello friend, I'm an your Italian fan . I bought a rog strix g15 and I have problems with the graphics card of 6800H processor . If I don't disable it with the MUX I have a notebook crash and the screen goes black. Do you have any advice for me? thank you!!
So I currently have it but with 6800H. Same laptop just less RGB. Overall I like this machine but 12900H Scar 17 is just a few bucks more and I'm thinking about returing G17 and getting Scar. I wonder how they compare in games because G17 isn't thermal throttling and CPU runs at 4350Mhz in games, 6900HX should run even higher maybe even hitting 4500Mhz in games. If it does it should theoretically perform better in games than the 12900H version.
I just bought that 3 days ago with same system it got some issues but it's so beautiful looking laptop I saw in my life and good with games on full high graphics
I have the 17" 3080ti and have not noticed any tearing with Optimus off. I was told by the sales person, idk if it's true or not, that since Optimus off means the refresh rate will stay at max, you won't notice tearing anyway at that high of a refresh rate. I don't care at all about webcams. You should add Sword and Fairy 7 to your game test. It can be pretty demanding and has rtx/DLSS etc.
Thanks, Jarod for the excellent and useful review! IMHO currently the best choice is the ASUS ROG Strix G533ZW with 3070ti. It costs 2072 euro in Hungary. Or of course the Legion 5iPro...
Hey there , i just got a new laptop after the last one literally broke (had to wait for a year for a new one) Is it fine if i let it charge when I'm using it for a boost in performance? and is there any other tips so the laptop would last longer and not broke?
Hey Jarrod will you be reviewing the new gen Asus tuf F15, A15 and Acer Nitro 5. They are being sent to a lot of youtubers (atleast here in India) so I think you might be getting them too?
If you don’t really need the mobility of a laptop and prefer more performance and quietness, just get a PC instead. The 30series mobile GPU is heavily restrained because power/thermal limits, not really worth it if you use it gaming only, and laptop isn’t many options to upgrade or modify (short life cycle).
@@faresbenmiled7833 hmm i am not much a pro user tuning everything, but imo the thermal control is great, in performance mode i play most 1440p game smoothly, i mainly play Elden Ring now, its 60 fps with all ultra setting, but sometimes in complex scen, it drops to around 45 but since most of time its smooth so u can tell the change. if u can endure the fan noise u got a turbo mode which i think u get about 8-10% boost in 3D Mark time spy. Overall i dont see any heat issue and very happy with the purchase. the good thing about 3808ti is that i got 16gb of ram which could be an advantage if u use recent AI application. all in all it is a premium machine and i think it worth the price (i did not pay the suggested retail price, i think i got it at about 20% off)
@@faresbenmiled7833 oh and 1 more thing i like last year's port located at back, rather than all packed at left or right this year, but seems like they got vapour chamber this year helping out the thermal performance, but really right now this machine in my country is almost 40% more than my last year purchase, but i dont see the price going down any sooner, seems this year's product are more favour due to the DLSS3big boost. so go ahead for last gen i think it still can last quite a long time ~
@@gavinhung6516 The price gap is so huge for me and I'm not a gamer who max out every setting: medium to high fhd is quite enough for me so I don't think I will need the frame gen especially since it might be added through amd fsr 3 for free in next year, thermal was quite a concern for but seing that on manual mode in armory I can lock cpu to 45 watts is still powerful and limits temp (and thermal throttling) is quite a good thing for me. Hey Jarrod, can you please compare 3 different laptops: Acer Nitro 5 HP Victus 16 Acer Predator Helios 300 With the Nitro and Victus loaded with the Ryzen 7 5800H and 3060 95W while the Predator having the i7 11th gen and 3060 100W. I'm a college student so I'm really tight on the budget so I'd like to select the best one possible. I've heard the build quality and thermals on Victus( especially hinges, they might break after 2 years) is horrible while Predator has some serious thermal issues . Nitro seems to have better cooling system compared to them. All have QHD with same display specs. But the Nitro comes with 256 GB SSD and 1TB HDD with horrible battery, same with Predator but 512 GB while the Victims has 1 TB SSD and far better battery. Also you can switch to a game full-power profile when pluging it and even launch a given game. It's really a very nice addition to a gaming laptop that can be used as a strong work machine.
I find your performances tests very well done and exposed. They really show the power beast this laptop is.
Thanks again for this well-done review!

I have two issues with this laptop which have made me ignore it:

I know the hinges on Victus are wobbly but as far it doesn't break it doesn't concern me.
I dont care about looks, my only priority are performance, build quality, longtitivity and thermals as I plan to use the laptop for atleast 5 years.
Ik you are biased against the Nitro and Predator considering you brought the worst possible version available (no offense).
Even if you dont have the time to compare them, can you or anyone else in comments section tell me which one will be suitable for me and why?

Only the graphics cards are different, right? Is everything the same?
I couldn't decide between 3070Ti and 3080Ti. I thought it wasn't worth the price difference.
Hey would you chose this laptop over and Asus Zephyrus G16 (RTX 4060)?
Hi ! First of all i love your videoa, they are really great! I need some help in decision which laptop to pick, i cant decide for 2months now..
i am thinking between MSI GE76 Raider and Asus Rog scar 17, both on same specs ( 3080Ti ) and the 2 things are making me crazy:
MSI doesnt have G-sync, will that be a problem?? I always had a G-sync monitor.. i dont want to be disappointed…
Asus got lower TGP and the fan outlet is going on the hand with mouse, did you notice that as a problem?
I wanted so much Alienware, but x17 is in FHD or 4k, and i want this QHD display….
Could you please help me with decision ? What is better choice ?
Hello, can i ask a personal opinion about how are the hinges of the laptop. They are sturdy/good quality?
Is this model comes with an AMD processor? if itis, this enhance the baterry life?
I am confused right now as I should choose to buy the HP Victus which he reviewed before or this Asus ROG Strix Scar 15???
Just because both are so good, it makes me hard to choose
Is the QHD screen worth getting over the
300hz FHD?
would you reccomend this laptop with the 3080 ti over a 4070 laptop right now, there is a sale where its almost the same price as a 4070 g16. should i pick this one or the 4070 g16
Still waiting for the new Legion 7 with the 3080Ti. Would love to see a comparison between the intel and AMD model when it is released.
Next month!

@@Imback-rk8xi | sorry man, i just now came back and seen ur comment, i got mine on amazon! i just happened to get it at the very best time i guess, crazy deal! its still running up-to 2000$ on ALOT of Sites! as for the laptop itself, I LOVE IT! mine has the i9-12900H, RTX 3060 and Came with 16GB DDR5 RAM @4800Mhz (i upgraded to 64GB RAM and 6800Mhz DDR5) and my display is 300Hz, some models are only 240Hz. this laptop can handle anything you throw at it4r tho! i can play warzone on Extreme settings at 120FPS on average, CyberPunk on Ultra Settings i get around 100FPS (depends on Ray-Tracing Enabled or Not, but RTX always hits FPS Hard) it also has the option to add another SSD (two SSd Slots total) so i threw Two 2TB Samsung 980 Pro SSD's in mine! its one hell of a machine! i almost love it more than my Desktop (12700K, TUF3060Ti, 64GB DDR4 3200Mhz)
Helios 300 or Scar 15?
